Good news from LKH's site. We now have three books to look forward to come 2006. There's the Micah novella (Feb), #13 in the Anita series: Danse Macabre (July) and now Strange Candy (Nov). I'll mention here that I am digging the title already.
The only information I've been able to find on this recent title so far is this taken from the site news: "Strange Candy, thirteen published and unpublished short stories by Laurell will be available Nov. 2006."
If someone knows any more feel free to let the rest of us in on the secret ;]

Here's what news I have, from the latest newsletter blaugh : regarding Strange Candy Strange Candy Release Date: November 2006 13 short stories by Laurell K. Hamilton! What more need we say? Probably what they are about would help. Some of these stories have never been in print before! Including the first short story Laurell ever wrote for Anita. It will also include previously published stories, like the ones in Marion Zimmer Bradly Magazines, Dragon Magazine and other anthologies. So if you are searching high and low for the out of print books, it may be well worth just waiting. The stories range form the fluffy bunny type (no bunnies in any of them) to seriously creepy, makes you want to pull the covers over your head type. A very eclectic mix and everyone should find something in this lot to entertain them. regarding Danse Macabre Danse Macabre Release Date: July 2006 This one is hard! What to say, what to say. This one will be set in St. Louis again. Jean-Claude has invited masters from all over the United States to St. Louis. Seems he has become a patron of the ballet and the troop has vamps in it that will need permission to cross-territories. Rather than negotiate passage each time, Jean-Claude will do it all at once. Of course you know this will not go smoothly. It is after all an Anita book. We will be seeing Edward and Olaf again. This many bloodsuckers in a single city would draw them out. For the rest, well we will have to wait and see. Also, the first three chapters of this (unedited) have been posted up on her website.

This was too long for a quote, apparently...
...But the idea that turned into the first novella featured one idea from the file: Anita goes out of town to raise the dead for the F.B.I., and because the arduer is still not completely tamed she needs to take on of the boys with her. Micah goes. First, because he's been something of a mystery to me. I think first, he was brough on when there were already so many main men in Anita's life that he really doesn't get a lot of onscreen time that he doesn't have to share. Second, Micah was originally supposed to be a bad guy. But when he hit the stage, he not only hit running, but well, doing things we'd never done with strangers. He was one of those characters that hit the page and totally metamorphosed on me. Willie's girlfriend, Angel-fangs, did that, too. So did Edward. Angel-fangs was supposed to be a bad guy, too. Edward was supposed to be closer to what Olaf turned out to be. But he hit the page and he just wasn't those notes. It happens. But with Micah living with Anita, not knowing as much about him as I might has made it difficult as a writer.
It was last book, INCUBUS DREAMS, that I realized another problem with Micah. He's taken over the duties I originally planned on being Richard's. I actually have notes that Richard would quit teaching and become an out of the closet Ulfric, and head of the Furry Coalition. But Richard didn't want to give up his day job, okay, but who was going to head the coalition? Who was going to be Anita's true partner. Because what Anita needed was more a traditional wife than a traditional husband. I guess Nathaniel is the wife, but Micah is the partner. Micah is doing much of what I, and Anita, wanted from Richard. In a way, tragically, Richard still wants to fit Anita into the white picket fence traditional home, and Anita was wanting him to go so far outside that tradition that he just couldn't do it. It would have broken Richard to fit him into such a non-traditional picture, and we don't want to break him. Anita loves him, well and truly, and when we're not fighting with him, I love him, too. (I'
m really tired of the fighting.) I have no idea what's going to happen with Richard and Anita. I've tried to take all my bets of the table. I've been wrong so often. But it meant that in many ways Micah was brought on to meet the slot for another character, so he, Micah, was something of a cipher to me.
In writing the novella I learned about Micah's family, the attack that made him a wereleopard, and how he really feels about being Mr. Anita Blake. It takes a very special man to take a back seat to a woman's career. Or at least that's been my experience...
...The novella also did something that we hadn't done in a while, put Anita in the hospital. She recovers, but I am aware that we're approaching that Superman problem where nothing is truly dangerous. We managed it in the novella. We also got to raise the dead on stage as the main plot point, cool. We also got to reintroduce on of the F.B.I. agents we first met in New Mexico in OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY. No, it's not Agent Bradly Bradford...
The '...' is where I left out bits that weren't about Micah's story. I can't transcribe the whole bloody thing in one post... and my hands are killing me. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

I hope Richard keeps redeaming himself. It's really
too bad the way he tooks such a plumeting down wards spiral in to
lameness and @$$ holeness xp tho in ID he did earn back some
brownie points...not much but some...
i haven't read any of LKH short shories...how are they?
are they all new characters and everything?

I agree with the Richard statment. As for Laurell's short stories. I've only read those related to Anita and the one (I won't inculde novel snippets) was good. I have never read anything of hers that wasn't Merry or Anita related I think. You just reminded me to start Nightseer once and for all. And thanks a lot for the extra information guys =]

I'm halfway through Nightseer, and it's really good but I keep expecting an Anita or Merry char to pop up!
But I haven't read any of her short stories (that I remember...) so that looks interesting.

oh i cant wait for the anita books! and as for the short stories. well i am so hooked on the anita books if any of hte short stories is based on the anita novels i will grab it up!
