A white and red dragon sat, basking in the moonlight, enjoying the silent night. It wasn’t an ordinary dragon, well; it could be, depending on how one looked at it. An odd looking human was leaning up against the dragon. She let out no emotion of pleasure like the dragon below her did. It could be debated if she even was human anyways. Other humans wouldn’t classify Vampires as one of them, yet Tainted were a type of dragon. Maybe it had to do with the fact humans are quiet racist.

The dragon, who called himself Grishmak, turned his head toward the human in amusement. Below her calm interior, he could sense a bit of pleasure. Though, if he were to say anything she would deny it. She claimed she had no emotion, but that was a perfect lie. Grishmak could taste the emotions, all bottled up waiting to get out.

The girl’s eyes scanned the trees, seeing perfectly in the darkness. She shifted positions and revealed two red wings, and her rather sharp teeth sparkled in the moonlight. She seemed to be ignoring the underfed looking dragon she was leaning on. No, her intrest was in the woods.

A small red dragon made her way through the forest. The moonlight flickered through the branches and across her back. The young little dragon called herself Crimson. The color of her scales always reminded her of blood, her lifeforce.

As she walked through the tree's she smelled something. Though it didn't really smell like something that could possibly be a meal. 'Is it another dragon?' She wondered to herself as she continued at a slower pace. She had never seen anyone, or anything else since she had just recently hatched.

Stopping a few yard from the edge of the forest she peered through the branches. There was a strange looking creature with wings leaning on a dragon. 'The dragon looks like me!' She thought as she moved her own tattered wings. Taking a few more steps, she decided to lay in the leaves for a moment seeing what they would do.

The girl’s eyes focused on something in the forest. Worry flew through the girl, and her heart pounded faster. A fear of the vampire hunting humans and dragons had haunted her for ages, even with Grishmak to protect her. Thara always felt as if she was being hunted, even though, she in fact was the hunter. Her body tensed, and Grishmak looked at her in slight surprise.

The Tainted’s ears shifted out towards the forest. He heard the crackling of leaves, but that could be many things. It could be a mouse, or some type of nocturnal predator preying on small mammals. He could sense swirls of curiosity coming off in waves from the creature hiding in the shadows, yet he didn’t feel like it was a threat. He chuckled softly, believing it was some forest animal and went back to gazing at the moon.

Thara frowned at him, “Must you make fun of my fears?” she growled at Grishmak, “Sometimes your ability to read my mind is annoying.”

Grishmak smirked in amusement, “Ah, see you admit you have emotion,” he replied, as if they had been arguing.

“All living things fear,” she snapped back, forgetting about the fact she thought she saw something in the woods.

Crimson watched the two argue with each other for a moment. She crawled forward more. Not only wanting to see who and what they were, but to see what the dragon was staring at. She stuck her nose out of the brush and looked up at the silver orb in the sky. 'Shiny...' She thought to herself.

Crimson placed her left paw out farther so she could look at it in the moon light. 'It's silver like the thing in the sky too.' She looked from her paw to the moon and back to her paw.

Moving forward a little, she freed her tattered wings from the brush, exposing most of her body to the open. She hoped that the two would be friendly towards her.

Thara sulked and turned her head back out to the woodlands, ignoring her friend. The girl didn’t feel like arguing with her stubborn friend. Then again, was friend even the right word for the Tainted? It wasn’t like she had any choice but to hang out with him. She was his ‘human’ bound after all.

Out of the corner of the vampire’s eye, she thought she could see something, but ignored it at first…until her mind realized it was red and moving. You didn’t see very many red living animals. She swung her head in that direction and locked eyes with a hatchling. Wait, not just a normal every day hatchling, but a Tainted. The only Tainted she’d ever seen was Grishmak and when she asked him if he knew any others he’d laughed and told her no. So, a hatchling watching them was a big surprise.

Grishmak had sensed his humans shock and lazily turned his head to find the source. True, he could look into her mind to find out, but they both did not like telepathy. No, instead they choose to speak everything aloud and only use it in desperate times. Though, when he set his eyes on the dragon, he was tempted to see what her thoughts where.

Grishmak wasn’t quiet to surprised. His only surprise was that it was young, too young to have a bound, so it would have been born a Tainted, unlike him who’d changed into one. He gingerly got up and stepped towards the dragon. When he got about three feet away, he sat down and watched the young dragon.

Hello, little one,” he commented softly.

Crimson watched as the large and older dragon moved towards her. 'What's it going to do...' She wondered as he sat down on front of her. She sat there for a moment starring up at the other dragon. He was silvery white like the thing in the sky, but also had red on him. Just like she was.

Turning her head she looked over at the other creature. It had wings like she did. All red and tattered, but it wasn't like her. It stood on it's hind legs, and wore odd things on it's body. 'What is that thing...' She thought to herself as she stared for another moment.

Turning her attention back to the other dragon, she looked towards him again. She crawled the rest of the way out of the bush and stood in front of him. Pulling herself onto her find legs, using her wings for balance, she lightly bopped the other dragon on the nose. Her playful way of saying hi.

Grishmak examined the young dragon in curiosity. He couldn’t help but feel happiness deep down inside him, at finding another who was like him, but there was also a bit of sadness. If this dragon were to stumble upon large groups of dragons they would shun it. Tainteds where considered a disgrace to dragon kind. They would feel like they were doing a favor to the world by killing it. He felt like he should protect the young dragon.

Surprise flooded through Grishmak when the young dragon touched his nose. He could tell it was a hello. More sympathy flooded Grishmak. Any dragon who considered Tainted heartless and cold, even hatchlings had obviously never met one. Then again, Grishmak and this one could be odd ones out, but Grishmak didn’t believe so. He didn’t like to think of him as an outcast of the outcasts.

“What are you doing out here?” he asked, not really sure if it could answer or not, but he felt like it should be asked. It didn’t seem right that it had no one to take care of it, but then again, he couldn’t see a Tainted coming to lay its eggs in the hatchery, so it made sense to find one out in the woods.

Crimson sat back on her haunches and stared up at the other dragon. 'What am I doing here.' She thought to herself. All she knew is one moment it was peaceful bliss, and the next thing she was wandering through the forest. Looking for anything, anyone. She flopped down, standing on all four legs and staring at the ground for a moment.

Crimson laid herself down on the ground and looked back and forth between the human and the dragon. She shook her head slightly as if trying to sort her thoughts. Opening her jaws she wanted to say something, anything, but she honestly did not know why she was there. It was all so confusing. Like a fuzzy dream. "I woke up here." Crimson said looking up at the older dragon.

Grishmak gazed at the young dragon fondly. It surprised him, as he hadn’t really felt much for any dragons in a while. His sister shunned him, hated him and he hadn’t seen his brother for awhile. He was a daylight creature, and therefore had trouble meeting up with him. Thara wasn’t exactly someone he loved. It was more of they had so much debt for each other they couldn’t break the bond. They pretty much had to stick together. She was good for conversation, and he could stand her, but he wondered if she died, if he would mourn her. So this feeling was odd.

He was very surprised by the young dragon’s ability to communicate. True, more and more dragons seemed to be able to these days, but when he’d been a hatchling, he’d rarely let out a ‘blort’. He nodded at the dragon slowly, thinking he understood and watched carefully as Thara tried to pet the dragon. He wasn’t sure if the tainted hatchling would appreciate her touching his head, yet he gave her no words of warning.

Do you have a name, young tainted?” Grishmak asked softly, not wanting to disturb the quiet night. The sun would be rising in a few hours, and he intended on enjoying the short summer night. “Mine would be Grishmak, and the vampire's,” he paused to point at Thara, “is Thara,” he finished, his voice quieting even more, to the point it was hard to hear.

Little Crimson watched as the vampire reached down to touch him. She stared at the hand for a moment deciding what to do. She flicked her tail as she was patted on the head. Shaking her head violently she knocked the vampire's hand from the top of her head. Standing she quickly shook herself, he feet sliding out from under her. When she stopped shaking she was lying flat on her stomach looking up at both the other dragon and vampire.

'My name?' She pondered to herself. Looking down at the ground she pondered for a few moments as to what her name was. She thumped her tail on the ground as she thought. Looking up at Grishmak wagging her tail she blurted out her name. "Crimson." Was all that escaped her small jaws. Pulling herself back up to her feet she took a few steps towards him and the vampire. 'They seem very nice.' She thought as she sat down on her haunches and gazed up at them. She was very curious as to this whole new place she had been wandering around in alone for the past few days. What more was there to see, were there more out there like them?

Grishmak snorted in amusement at the young dragon’s reaction to Thara trying to pet it. Yet, he wasn’t sure what the dragon was feeling exactly, and that bothered him. One of the Tainted race’s powers was to sense the emotions of other dragons. Yet, here he was, completely unsure of what this dragon was thinking. He could sense something, yet he could not place it. He shook the thoughts away and focused on Thara.

The vampire was surprised by the young female dragon’s reaction. Yet a wave of realization rolled over her. She, of all people, should know better, living with an irritable Tainted who sometime freaked out when to many dragons were around and all their emotions were smashing him in the face. She laughed out loud, for the first time in ages. It was Grishmak’s turn to be surprised. Thara never laughed.

“Crimson is a pretty name,” Thara said softly, showing more kindness then Grishmak was used too. Then again, they had only once been in contact with young dragons, and it had been awhile back. Back when they had first bound to each other. “You’re the first dragon I’ve seen who looks like Grishmak,” she said, almost to herself, and leaned against Grishmak, lost in thought.

There was a moment of silence before the pair said anything. Grishmak was watching the rapidly setting moon with sadness in his eyes.

The moon sets to fast these summer nights. They are to short,” he murmured softly.
