What's the best way to palm mute and still be able to pick fast while your hand stays on the strings? Sorry if the question is phrased weird. I'll rephrase it if needed.

i find it as natural as picking fast not palm muting...even when i first discovered palm muting it never really hindered my playing, but i dont think thats the answer your looking sweatdrop

Just practice, I guess...

If you hold your pick at a 45 degree angle you'll pick a little faster. You shouldn't try that unless someone can show you how, though.

Yeah, i'm trying, but I keep hitting the other strings, or when I do try and hit the other strings, my hand comes up and the string resonates. I can't get my hand to stay in one place. I guess i'll keep trying.

Well that's just because you're not very practised in palm muting yet. It'll sound better with time. But for God's sake take it slow! If you're playing a fast song and it's sounding all over the place, what with hitting the other strings and such, play it slower! Learn how to play it right, then learn how to play it at speed. If you practise it with it sounding sloppy you'll get used to the way it feels and all your palm muting will sound bad.

I'm not playing a song. I can do it slowly, that's how I practice it, but I just want advice on how to do it.

Don't play with your strap too low, that hinders palm muting and kills your wrist. Plus, it makes you look like a douche.

I was taught that by keeping the back of my palm near the bridge (on the strings of course) I could pick with my wrist, not my forearm, as in an acoustic style. This way I could still pick sort of fast as well.
When I needed an open string all I do is pull my hand up a tiny bit and viola!

If that sounded weird, I'm sorry.

Haha, yeah. I don't have it too low usually. It's pretty much a little above my waist. I practice sitting down usually though.

I usually play with my hand stationary, with my pinky resting on the body and my thumb and pointer finger strum the strings with the pick; unless I'm doing a chord/power chord (apparantley).

But thanks! ^^ I'll try making my strap a little higher next time.
