Now what? Lydia twisted her hands together in uncertainty. She'd never been asked to do anything like this before. Every time Pan had encountered another Nightmare with her in tow he'd treated her like... an object. Something to be broken and discarded. Something that had no worth without him. And now he expected something of her and had given her no idea what it was that he wanted. She sucked in a small breath.
"Korriganes," she repeated, "A wanderer? Pan does not tolerate trespassing Nightmares unless they pay due respect to the Forest."
Lydia's mind raced. There had to be a reason she was being included in this in the first place. Pan had made a point to have her here. He had made a point to in some way, even as the lowest rung on the social ladder, to include her among the Nightmares gathered. There was always a reason for the things he did. After a moment, Lydia had an idea as to why.
"You heard the entire meeting, didn't you? It's valuable information... what do you intend to do with it?"
It was difficult to make her voice cold but she tried, remembering the times Pan had spoken to her in such a manner.

It was just a human...a human. He sent his human to sniff her out over here. Actually. The more she thought about it the more offended she felt herself becoming. What? She wasn't even worth sending another Nightmare over to investigate? Was she so unworthy of his notice he wouldn't even bother sending one of her own kind over here? The dog would have been happy to wag it's tail for him surely. Or hells, the annoying voice that had seemed to rise some small spark of anger in his tone. Winds! Roll the flopping fish female through the underbrush to take a peek! But a human!?
A step needed to be taken back. Korriganes had felt herself tenseing and her face growing hard as she worked herself up. Look at it another way...Did she actually ~want~ a Beastian confronting her right now...?
Winds no! Was she mad!? If a Beastian had come round the tree to speak with her she wouldn't have even given her name, she'd have fled right for the border! A human though....well they were harmless. Weak and pathetic really. Hardly worth worrying about. Shifting her stance to move into better view of the human girl, Korriganes felt the tensenessin her shoulders ebb away. Humans were frail hearted and weak minded. Jareth had taught her that after just her second day watching him. They also were very very easily misled. Relaxing her shoulders and wings, she purposefully approached the human. One hand resting lightly upon her shoulder bag while the other teased a lock of her long hair behind a pointed ear.
"Tolerate? A Wanderer belongs no where and everywhere all the same. How can I be a tresspasser when I belong to no place outside these boundries?" Soft words spoken with a small little smile. Humans had odd ideas about creatures that looked like her. Small and delicate she had lured Jareth to the edge of more then one roof top simply by being non-threatening.
"I have always been respectful...nay...admireing of the Forest. It is one of the better places to Wander in all this dark world. A favorite of mine when I can linger long enough to truely get a feel for this place."
She would have left it there, and attempted to melt backwards, away from the human and the hazard this place was steadily becoming. Unlike her earlier thoughts, she knew now that Pan was aware of her. She could not outright flee. This she realized now after calming some. She had to withdraw. Slowly so as not to provoke some sort of response.
"Do with it?" She repeated, her head tilting slightly to one side. She could not honestly expect any answer other then what Pan would want to hear right? To answer otherwise would more then likely bring a messy death for her.
"Should I be doing anything with it? Should I be running to Operis to tell them what I heard? Why? Who there would not eat me before they would listen to me? I'm just a little Wanderer. I have no favor in the decaying city. It's too hard anyways. Crumbling stone and lifeless winds. Does Operis even have a Guardian to even try to tell? I do not know. Or do you think I should be helping? Sneaking in along with some other Nightmare to trouble the denizens of Operis? Again I ask...what Nightmare of Beastia would not eat me so much as accept my presence? I'm just as likely to become a target as any Operian in this war. I thought maybe to do just as I always had done..Wander...skirt the borders of the great Four lands and simply try not to get squashed by those that are Greater then I....I have no favor anywhere,I'm just a Wanderer..."

Lydia had to consider Korriganes's words for a moment. Wanderer? She'd never heard Pan use that word before... no, wait. Maybe. He'd said something about Nightmares that didn't belong any place at all but that was a different circumstance. He'd been offended then. Offended that the Nightmare in question was not a resident of Bestia and yet was traveling through it like they were without a proper token of respect shown to the Guardian of the Forest. She didn't feel comfortable talking to any Nightmare but so far, this one hadn't seemed so bad. Perhaps it was because, in some way, they were both outsiders here in the Forest. Lydia because she was human and nothing more than Pan's 'toy' and Korriganes because she had no home here in this strange world. Still. Lydia forced herself to focus on the issue at hand and tried to shove down that little surge of empathy. This was a Nightmare. If it weren't for Pan being so close things would be very, very different.
"Then you'd probably better at least acknowledge Pan himself," Lydia said, "If you really do respect the Forest. He gets offended easily when Nightmares that don't belong fail to pay him proper due... I'm not sure what that means." She looked embarrassed. "Pan hasn't told me much of anything."
Again, that empathy. Lydia chided herself. Hadn't Pan taught her many times that appearances were deceiving? He, himself, was a lesson in that. Noble and even beautiful in a strange way on the outside but so very cruel at heart. Even though this one... slight, diminutive, seemed harmless that probably wasn't the case.
"And I can't judge your intentions," Lydia said, firmly again, "I leave that to my master."
And Lydia stepped aside, gesturing for Korriganes to enter the clearing where Pan stood waiting, his blue eyes turned towards the shadows in which the two conversed.

Was she mad? Did she truely expect her to walk right up to Pan and ask him permission to skirt through his territory? Korriganes couldn't help but look with wide eyes at the human. Of the many things Korriganes had come to terms with, the fact she was a 'avoidant' Nightmare was one of the first. How else could she expect to survive in this dark and violent world? Invisibility was her way of life!
"Couldn't...ah...couldn't you just...sort of pass along my respects to the Lord himself? I'm certain he would not care much to be bothered by one such as I..."
The act of demure helplessness slipped away to be replaced by a rapidly growing sense of extreme unease. She already knew the answer of course. Her fingers curled into the strap of her bag far more tightly. Step on out into the open? If it weren't for the fact she knew she'd been already discovered she'd probably have attempted something reckless and fled as fast as her little toes could carry her.
Korriganes could feel herself already crouching into a tense cower as she forced her legs to move. The soles of her feet barely left the dirt, leaving faint scuff marks as she edged around the tree in the direction of Lydia's gesture.
If she remained hiding she'd most likely anger Pan, seeing as how the girl was here to make her leave the shadows. However, Korriganes could not so easily cast off the fear she had. Only she knew the true depths of this dangerouse situation and it was not so easy to ignore the self preserving nature she'd grown accustomed to living with. Casting a pinched glance over at the human she continued to creep forwards, at least until she'd broken through the cover of the tree. Lingering now within more view of the clearing then she ever would have been comfortable with Korriganes could easily see the assembly of three other nightmares. Not that any of them held her flickering gaze for more then a second. Fish lady. Mongrel dog. Weird cat bird thing. And of course..the towering and overly dominate figure present...Pan. Winds...she doubted she even came up to his knee cap!

Pan turned to face Korriganes as she crept into the clearing. He sniffed, delicately, taking in the scents of those around him and of the Nightmare approaching him. And that of his own human. So frightened, so unsure. Well, she could be weak and worthless to herself but he would find a use for her. He would make her be useful, even if she were cringing and crying for the entire time. These were his tools to use.
Even the Wanderer.
"The trees have told me of a wandering Nightmare in my domain," Pan said, "Your passage has bothered none."
He paused and tilted his head, looking past Korriganes and slowly blinking, as if he had all the time in the world to decide this matter. His fingers curled and uncurled around the hilt of his dagger and he raised the tip to tap thoughtfully against his cheekbone.
"But your presence... at this meeting... is an inconvenience. You do not have the look of one that would side with the city - you are no Nightmare born of human creations. So then - tell me - if I were to allow you pass peacefully through my realm - where would you go from here? To the City? With us? Or to some other realm...? And would your silence be assured or do I have to take it from you?"
And he smiled and flipped the dagger back in his hand so that the blade faced away from Korriganes. A slashing or stabbing position, so that the blade could either come up along her body or down into it.
"I will know if you lie. This is my domain. I am ruler here."
Pan already suspected he knew her answer. He had heard what she told Lydia and doubted it would change much. But he wanted to hear it for himself, if nothing else to establish to his own people that he had utter power over those that walked within the Forest. They would want such strength leading them in this raid. Pan's heart quivered with anticipation and his muscles shuddered slightly, eager to have the matter of the Wanderer over with so he could set in motion his beloved raid.

This...was about as far as she could manage to come. Her legs were absolutly refusing to move even the barest of inches forwards. backwards she was confident she could manage in a heartbeat. But forwards no more. It had some to do with the presence of the other three Nightmares. Mostly though, it had to do with Pan himself. Guardians were just...they were beyond her ability to handle. She did manage not to embaress herself by whineing or whimpering...little comfort that was.
...Well...if her presence had not bothered his woods any Korriganes felt that was a small boon in her favor. Still...she was in such a bad bad bad bad BAD position here! Ah..and there it was. A not so hidden hint of what would happen if she were to be the betrayer she had listed as one of her options earlier.
Korriganes managed to place a small lift to the corners of her lips, a wane smile while spreading her hands, palms outwards in a harmless gesture.
"In the past it was often told the deepest and darkest places of the woods belonged to ghosts, dryads, and weird creatures. Some even looking like myself. I have no allegiance to any place in this twisted world of ours, but I do have fondness. The City is not a place I care to Wander, it does not...suit me.... Nor do I suit it. Even if I had flitted off before the girl approched me, I would not have found any sort of reception in the City. I have no ears to whisper in Lord."
Winds her heart was still fluttering in her chest. It had slowed, just a fraction. As she spoke she was able to calm herself in small amounts. It was the fact she was, once more, thinking. A simple 'Yes Pan, No Pan' probably would have sufficed...but Korriganes hated to give such..such..straitforwards answers. Besides...if she managed not to commit herself by words to anything, it always left her options open, mostly to run, later on.
"I would never wish to waste your time Lord, and I feel moved to assure you that any such lingering on little me is just that. I can offer no sort of aid in your war. No more aid then I could against it. I would much rather stay clear and out from underfoot. I am fleet and would most likely make for the boundries away from where the conflict would begin to stir. Once you launch your attack though...what need would there be of silence? Within a few hours I would suspect all of Operis and the surrounding lands will know of your discontent. Truely, I am not worthy of such concerns Lord, I will leave and head for perhaps Atrum...Incultra is too hostile for one of my delicate nature."

So, the outskirts of Beastia is where this fine expidition of blood and pleasure was going to take place? The canine hadn't a need to inquire more about what was needed or expected of him, and so he was raised off his hind legs and stood for a moment before stretching out much like any dog would. Though he did happen to catch some interesting bits of conversation, something about a whinning and a spine. Whatever it was, it certainly didn't catch his attention.
It was just as he was about to head off towards the outskirts of Beastia to await the right time to move, that again an odd part of conversation got his attention. A crystaline gaze shifted to the side as he spotted the Living Tree's human moving off. This might be rather... interesting to stay and watch. It wasn't curiousity that gripped his mind at this point, but rather a strange excitement carried by any beast ready for a scuffle. The events that unfolded certainly surpassed any fathoms of the imagination he could have thought up, but nonetheless he decided to stick around for a bit longer. Heck, he might as well take a seat to enjoy it! With a jaw-stretching yawn he once again lowered his haunches to the ground, though this time sprawled out in rather comfortable position.
Crystaline blue orbs rested on the Wander that had made its way up to the Living Tree. Though the conversation escaped him, he couldn't help but simply hope an order would come. He got the feeling this one didn't quite belong, and as such the guardian just might wish for such action as an attack to be taken. Despite the slim chances, Bauh'eim figured it better to stick around just in case. That, and if he got bored, he could always call Ropin to the nightscape for a bit of fun before going on the raid. Yes, that would do quite well really. Still, his gaze didn't leave the figure from his sprawled out position on the ground.

Pan gave himself a moment to savor the other Nightmare's trepidation. As much as he enjoyed the taste of Lydia's fear it was a welcome change to savor the scent of another being of this world's fear. His own subjects respected him - feared him as their Guardian - but this was different. It was why he hunted intruders so ruthlessly, perhaps allowing the chase to go on for hours, or days, just to prolong that fear until finally snuffing out any last hope for escape. His eyes closed briefly in delight. He could kill her. He could order any of his followers to kill her. But no... he couldn't slake their thirst for blood just yet. There would be plenty of that later and he couldn't let them - or himself - be satiated now.
"Then leave for Atrum," Pan said and there was a trace of malice in his voice, "but you will not find the pathway out of Bestia until my raid is complete. The word of a Wanderer means little to me."
He twisted, raising one hand to the sky, and the branches above him twined together in response, rasping against each other in their unnatural movement.
"Trees, bind up the skies from this one. Hide the pathways, shroud the forest in darkness, and entrap the boundaries in thorns until my return."
And a shudder ran through the woods, like a fast-moving wind. Pan smiled again and turned away from Korriganes, no longer concerned. He gestured at Lydia instead, beckoning that she follow.
"Come," he intoned, "To the border. We make for Operis."

Korriganes stomach flip flopped. Straitening from her cower, she twisted on the balls of her feet to follow the near invisable wave of response. The tree's meshed together above, casting darkness upon the glade, and she felt a tremble beneath her bare feet that she could only imagin to be roots of the brush springing into being about the borders of Beastia.
The tree's mergance of branch's above was both effective and ineffective. It wasn't as if she could fly out. Of course, with her wings closed so tight to her back it was easy to miss the tattered state of the membranes. Still, the loss of the open sky was unpleasent, and the darkness that began to shroud all around her would be, by and far, very dangerouse for her if she were to attempt running.
Hitting a tree at her top speed would be very unpleasent, if she even managed to run far enough to gather that much speed behind her. Of course...she could just climb as high as she could and hope the jump down would be far enough to poof her....more then likely she'd just break a leg or twist an ankle. Jumping off the tops of buildings or falling down cliff's was what she needed. That was even if she wanted to deal with that much pain to slip out of Beastia.
Still, this proved to be a very inconveinent situation. She was a Wanderer currently not permitted to wander! Oh sure..she could probably stumble her way through the whole of Beastia...but that wasn't the point! The point was she was trapepd in it's borders and couldn't go where she willed! {more or less} So now what was she supposed to do? Just because Pan was too busy to swat her, something she was intensely grateful for, it didn't mean something else wouldn't find her a interesting chew toy! Twisting the strap of her bag between her fingers she felt a sour bile in the back of her throat.
Tag along? She could...and hope to slip through the border and into Operis when Pan and his motly little assortment reached the City. She honestly doubted Pan was ignorant of that being an attempt of her's. The only thing she could play on would be the hope of his ignorance of just how fast a little spat she was....providing he didn't make a bush pop up under her mid attempt...
She should have just stayed in that hollow and slept today...
Giving herself a little shake, she let her eyes snap about the other Nightmares in the glade, and then the human girl. Well...where they went it was bound to be lighter then if she were to stay put... She could linger on, and hope to be ignored until she had a real solid idea of how to get out of this mess. With careful tip toeing steps, Korriganes began to pace herself away from the overpowering presence of Pan, so as to slink along outside the ring of perception.

Pan did not look around to see what Nightmares followed him. He knew they would. There was the taste of blood in the air and it had not yet been slaked. His strides were long and Lydia was hard-pressed to keep up. But she dare not leave his side, not with so many other Nightmares and especially not when there was the promise of violence. Anticipation would be high and who knew if it would be kept in check before they reached Operis?
Pan has unleashed something that had been long dormant within the forest.
"Why am I the only human?" Lydia panted, trying to keep up. They had to be reaching the borders of Bestia soon... she had long learned that time and distance was not what it seemed when in Pan's presence.
"Because the others do not deem theirs of worth."
"You don't deem me of any worth!"
And Pan just smiled, very softly, so soft that Lydia thought she had missed it. It left her in confusion and she put her mind to this riddle that Pan had subtly tossed her. At least it would take her mind off the feel of impending violence that permeated the forest.
Then, up ahead, the forest fell away and the thorns parted, unraveling themselves to form an arched gateway and the ever-present shadow gave way to a half-light of the world beyond. There was a stretch of bare earth, like a nuetral ground, and beyond that lay the shadows of shattered buildings and skyscrapers. They were black in front of a setting sun - a sun she had never seen before. It felt unnatural, looked unnatural. Pan stretched out his arm and pointed, a feral smile growing and then he snarled, showing the canines that so resembled a wolf, and the Guardian of Bestia roared - a primal sound that hearkened back to the ancient days when the dark parts of the world struck true terror in humans.
Bestia was awake.
(I don't want to spend forever in the forest, so let's get our Nightmares over to the city and get some conflict going...) twisted

Aroon followed after the guardian of the forest. Watching him with his golden eyes, just where where they headed, was one question fluttering around the mind of the gryphon. He thought it odd that Pan would take his mortal to such a dangerous place. A glimpse of love still lingered in the gryphon for his human. Clawing at his insides from time to time, though he never would share this with any other soul. He would rather have his tongue sliced out from his beak then utter his inner secrete. How annoying , he thought to him self, emotions. Though he felt a familiar chill up his spine.
The gryphon had been locked away in his thoughts not paying any attention to where they were heading and almost walked into Pan. Luckily the strange gate had awakened him from his mental slumber. An odd gate it was. It gave Aroon another chill up his spine, but a different kind this time. He did not trust this gate that laid directly in front of them. Though he knew that they would have to travel to it to get to where they were headed, it still was eerie and mysterious.
Beyond in the eerie gate laid a place oh so familiar to Aroon. A city, like the one Erin lived in. Only this one was twisted with rot and past glory, making its way up to the sky in an impressive stride to demand all attention onto it's self. Eerie, yet it would suck you in if you were not careful. He could under stand why mortals would be more drawn to this place. Eerie and threatening with a cold steel backbone towering over all who dared lay eyes on this damned forsaken place.
Pan's roar almost made the gryphon jump out of his skin. His roar demanded more attention onto it self then the twisted dark steel structure. There was going to be blood shed for sure. Aroon was not scared at this. Just a bit uneasy. Twas the light before the dawning of war.

At first, Korriganes lagged behind. A small and slight thing she needed to take two steps to equal one of Lydias' strides. However, the more ground she covered, the quicker her speed became. Soon enough she had little trouble keeping up with the larger group. If anything she had to slow herself down. Pausing now and then so her speed would not carry her too far too fast.
She didn't like the fact she was thinking of slipping out through the same place the rest of the Beastians would be spilling over. Once on the other side the ground would change to hard cold concrete and the sky would be blotted not by tree's but by huge crumbling stone structures. Operis felt like a empy shell that, if you placed it to your ear, a earwig would wriggle out of and start to...well...chew on your brain or something. She Wandered it of course, and she already knew of a few buildings she could dart to on the outskirts. A small ramshackle place with a small attic crawlspace she could hide in till the rumble of bloodshed had either been abated or traveled far enough away for her to feel a bit more safe in breaking for a safer zone.
The forming of the gateway ahead gave her a doubtful feeling in her stomach. But it was Pan's roar that tripped up her feet. Startled by it's sound she mis-stepped. Glancing off a tree with her shoulder, the combination sent her falling head over heels into some not so cushioning brush. Twigs, leaves, bramble of all sorts twined with arms, legs, wings and hair. For a good long moment Korrigan let herself lay in the tumble, a dissatisfied grimance on her lips. Unharmed for the most part, with a smart in her shoulder. And all this embaressment over jumping at the sound of a yell.
Well, she would need to disentangle herself if she meant to try and slip through. She seriously doubted the gateway would close too quickly, specially if there were other Beastians lagging behind that would want to partake in this raid of Pans.

Ah well, the dog couldn't have everything go the way he wanted, despite how much of a thrill it would have been to recieve such an order. With a flick of his bushy tail, the canine had planned on staying around quite a bit longer to perhaps have a warm session with Ropin, the useless human of his, but such thoughts daunted at the back of his mind as unnecissary. He was warmed up already, his blood thirst was rather appealing to the taste buds, and certainly he would have no hesitation in the act.
With a rather distasteful movement away, the dog had gotten up from where he lay to follow suit with the movement of the guardian, though several minutes behind, of course. Of course, every step he took had the canine terror nearly stalking in the shadows, as if already on the hunt. It could have been, any time, such an order would come; and he just needed to keep his eyes pealed for such a thing.
However, it was something else that caught his attention, a roar from up ahead that sent shivers of both a fierce fear and terrible glee. They were close, his hide twitched with anticipation as his steps became more eager to catch up to the rest of the group. Such longiness in his baby blue eyes; twisted as it was.

Pan ran the group hard across the barren stretch between Bestia and the City. He did not want to linger and Lydia quickly fell behind, to the point where Pan merely swept her up in one arm and carried her like she was nothing. She quivered but made no protest.
Before the group, the City loomed in the growing darkness. Even to Pan, it felt like a forbidden place and the gathered Bestians were very much the intruders. They could see the start of a highway, rising out of the ground, broken and crumbling, before them. Pan set Lydia down.
"We strike fast, kill what we can, and return to the forest at my cry," Pan said, "Hunt in what groups you will. I shall hunt alone."
He smiled. His prey was not going to be the terrors of this region... no. He wanted demon blood on his hands. The great tree stooped and whispered in Lydia's ear.
"Go ahead of me," he said, "My presence will be felt and I imagine the Nightmares will flee, not wanting to face a Guardian. Bring them out to me. You are a human and will understand human-made fears. Go then. Make yourself useful."
Trembling, Lydia glanced around her at the other Nightmares and swallowed hard. Then she straightened her shoulders and said one phrase, loudly and clearly. She would make herself useful if he demanded it, then.
"Lend me your dagger," she said.

Well then...this was what she'd been waiting for wasn't it? The path was open, the hoard gathered and chaotic. Things were prime for her to slip herself through the gap and escape, should all here truely be distracted.
Korriganes wasted little time on thought. If she had she would have contented herself to just huddle in some tree hollow in the shadows. No. She could not..would not do that. It was the same as if someone had locked her in a box. Korriganes valued the freedom of her wandering feet too much to risk them getting tripped up in the gnarled roots of Beastia!
She ran, darting with little concern to whom she might pass on her way out that gap. As harsh as the roads of Operis were on her bare feet, how cutting the whipping wind, or how sharp the suns light above...she would prefer to Wander them long enough to cross through to another realm. Where? She had few choices she preffered over Beastia but...once she found Xadrian she'd need not worry about much...except his senial old ways.
