rachaella22 Veysa Although Azula is a little manipulative I think she can be really cool. I liked the ember island episode because you saw her as real person, until she delivered her frightning speeches surronded by fire that is.But still Agreed. It was nice to get a glimpse at the human side of her. And, while she may be manipulative and sadistic, she is a cool character.
... I almost feel bad for and the whole mommy issues thing. D: HighlightAnd the friend betrayal and the fact that it looks like she's going to die

Okay, so even though Im sure this thread is ages old; I'm posting in it.
This is what I've gathered on Azula (she's one of my favourite characters):
So Azula is and was a prodigy at firebending. As a child she hated whenever someone was better than her at anything; this demonstrated in Zuko Alone, when young Azula pushes Ty Lee down after she discovers that she can't do a cartwheel well.
I'm not sure why she firebends with blue fire, but it probably has something to do with the fact that she was able to master firebending at such a young age. As for lightningbending, she's able to to do it so well because it requires the user to be perfectly calm of spirit. Azula has a pure, calm, controlled evil in her and that's why she's so good at it. If you look at her fighting carefully, you can see that she uses entire techniques of firebending that we hadn't seen used by any other character; note that most of the time, she only uses two fingers to firebend, instead of her entire first like Zuko does.
Apparently Azula's also a sociopath. She entirely disregards her sense of "right and wrong". She's malicious and apathetic. She also drills for perfection and will settle for nothing less. Azula had always had this perfect, controlled insanity; but, starting from Mai's line "I love Zuko more than I fear you", her control over it starts to break, ultimately showing its true form in her final battle with Zuko.
...Wow. I am such a loser. gonk

I love how pointly she is though and I love that her fire is blue becasue it made the Zuko/Azula battle cooler and easier to watch. Total awseomness

When one really thinks about it, Azula isn't really that hard to understand and in a way she is also a victim of Ozai's reighn.
As Azula was growing up, all she'd hear was "you're perfect," "You're a prodigy," "You were born lucky." She was raised to be perfect and to expect nothing less. Because of this, she placed impossible expectations onto her own shoulders on top of the expectations her father placed there.
It is plain to see that all Azula wanted was the aproval of her parents, even her mother, but she didn't know how to go about getting both. Her father was pleased when she proved him right of her perfection and ruthlessness, and that was probably the only way she got praise. But in the mean time, her brother, whom she had been drilled into believing was imperfect, had what she wished for most; her mother's attentions.
Azula didn't see that her mother loved her as well, even though Lady Ursa was probably afraid of her daughter the love was still there. But Azula didn't, and doesn't, know how to reach it because all she knows is violence.
This allows for the developement of an unbalanced mental state. A mental state that her father encourages because it allows for a hotter flame and a fiercer drive.
In fact, I believe that the reason Mai's and Ty Lee's betrayal hurt her so much is because those were the only true bonds she had formed on her own, regardless of why she made them. They were all she had and they were the only ones that would give her the love she craved, even if it was only a little. Their betrayal was a c***k in the wall of perfection that was built around her.
She was perfect. She didn't lose friends. She didn't lose anything. She recieved. She was feared. She was respected. Why did they leave her? She was perfect. She was the ideal. And yet her friends turned on her because she couldn't aquire the one thing that Zuko always seemed to get in droves; love.
It was that lack of love and her deteriorating mental state that really did her in. That's why she cried (as did I) because she couldn't comprehend why someone as perfect as her could lose. When she lost, everything that she was raised to believe about herself and the world around her, things that her father had taught her, shattered.
A blow like that would drive anyone insane, don't you think.
Sorry for such a long post...I seem to be doing that a lot lately....I wonder why?
