So...do you guys write mainly comedies, tragedies, or what? Are they mostly one-acts, or do you write full-length plays as well?

I have a play idea and I've been meaning to write it. But it's kind of based off personal events, so I want to let thm set in before I stop.
One of the girls in my theatre class wrote a play and we all sat down and did reading rectangle thing. It was really, really good.

Wow, so many threads are dead in this guild crying
I'm a playwright too...actually, I'm more of an actor/singer/dancer/playwright/techie (in order of what I do more often).
My friend (who knows a good amount about music composition) is teaming up with me to write a musical. We've only come up with the basic concept, but hopefully now that it's summer we can get that rolling. Most of my old work is uninspired, but I'm starting to have a lot of good ideas for one acts and 10-minute plays to submit to the ACTF playwriting competition. I don't know if it would actually get put through for the next festival, but it would be totally awesome if it did! If it's a 10-minute play, actors at the festival audition and you get to talk with a student director and help cast and see it progress. If you win the regional one then you get to go to the national festival where Irene-Ryan acting scholarship winners act out your play (mainly, it's acted out by amazing talented college actors). I don't know what happens with the one-acts if it makes it to nationals.
I probably won't write anything that amazing. If you win the regionals, I think the festival pays your school to put on a production of a full length of it for the school and it is automatically invited to perform at the next years festival...which is awesome!
Good times...good times.

I've only written one short play so far but I want to write more. Writing is fun smile
I think playwrights are probably the most important people in theatre. I mean, an actor can't have a tony-winning performance without a tony-worthy script. Ditto for directors and everyone else involved. If there were only crappy playwrights, there would only be crappy theatre, and that would be...well...crappy. rolleyes

Playwrights are unfortunately way too overlooked most of the time. I mean, they are the ones who writes what actors are saying on the stage. Comedians gives a body to the soul of the one the playwright created.

I've tried before, and I'm getting an idea for a drama right now, though, I'm trying something new, so the chances of it working out are slim...but no harm in trying, right???
