One of my roommates is driving me mad. eek
Hate to whine at all of you but this is getting crazy and i have got to rant to someone!!!! I can't do it anywhere else online because Roomie would see it and absolutely crumple.
One of those people who has good intentions, but is passive aggressive and lacks the sense given to grass!! So you feel guilty even pointing out any of the nutzo things they do that bug you! Or the shockingly common knowledge they somehow managed to miss!
Roomie, let's call them R, is driving me crazy, in many small ways, like being pecked to death by rabid chickens!!
1. likes to watch marathons of fave tv shows on dvd- I mean all day marathons, rewinding and repeating favorite scenes multiple times.
2. Has gaping holes in common knowledge of How Stuff Works and the World In General. Example, it's taken me seven months to train R into the idea that wrapping things in neat little bundles of paper towel will not keep them safe to eat. Especially if you do this and don't put them in the fridge! Yes, R, tigers are the ones with the stripes. Yes, R, snails are those things with shells.
3.Requires Parenting at age 27. R is constantly asking for opinions and advice and help with things no adult should ever ask for help with! It's like R is Anti-Resourceful! Do I know of a number to call where there might be some clinic that takes this or that? I don't know, try information!!
3. See # 2, as pertaining to random household concepts- R is aware that Windex Multisurface cleans, but had to be convinced that 409 does the same thing and would be better for the countertops. I just a few days ago introduced R to the idea that the lint trap in the dryer might have to be cleaned out between loads!
4. Easily Amused. This would not be annoying if it weren't so painful. R is fond of reruns of tom and jerry- not even the classic episodes, just any old slapstick cartoons, and has a raucous laugh. Hunts up funny videos on the internet, and comes to interrupt whatever I am doing to tell me about them and insist I watch.
5. The interrupting thing. No matter what I might be doing, if something- anything- randomly occurs to the mind R will come into the room, stand in announcer fashion, point a finger at the celing or subject ( the prerequisite motion for all of R's speech) and proceed to give a vague, hesitant but repetitive conjecture about the thought that just popped into R's head. I get at least six of these per day.
6. HAS NO CAR. See #3. Or even LISCENSE. Anywhere R wants to go, R asks me for a ride, or has to mooch rides. By 27 you'd think... R is not able to even afford a car, though, R is not even able to afford Rent. R borrows from me to make rent, and owes me a good deal of money. I don't mind R owing me nearly so much as I mind the fact that R keeps having to borrow instead of being self sufficient.
7. Has no initiative to better situation. See #3. R talks about getting a car, and more hours at job, but R is still sleeping on My air mattress and making no effort to get a bed of own. If I enable R, R will sit comfortable on that. I need a spine, and am Laying Down the Law firmly as of NOW.
8. The accent, or more to the point the dialect. Now, I realize it is not R's fault that Yall is a normal way to address someone in Texas. We are not in texas. If it were just the accent maybe it wouldn't be so annoying but there's not even an attempt at proper grammar! Ever! Is there More of them, What all did yall git? Yall goin t; the store? When I am the only person in the room! I hate being referred to in plural- if it keeps up I'm going to have to use the royal We just to balance things out. I know a person's accent isn't their fault and for most people is beyond their control, but where I am from that sort of speech is culturally embedded to mean annoying or uneducated. I can't help being predisposed to find it bothersome!
9. Food Mooch. See # 6 and #3. Does not buy groceries, or contribute at all to household utilities or foodstuffs.
More as I clarify just what it is about R that is making me come so close to Screaming at R.

Do you have any emotional attachment to the roommate? Do you think you could kick him out if you wanted?

Besides, there is heavy suspicion that Very Sensitive Roomie has brain damage. Real and genuine. Trying to get Roomie some help that's not me, so I can stay sane

Awwwww... But yeah. I feel for you about the whole interrupting and eaisily amused part. My brother is that way, too. Sometimes, I just want to sock him. I'll be talking to my boyfriend on the phone or watching TV or doing homework and he'll STILL think I CARE to listen about whatever just happened on Drake and Josh. scream

Man, that sucks. I feel for you. My stepbrother stayed with me for a while and he was almost just like that. He didn't have a car, his ONLY job was to take out the trash and he didn't do it, and he racked up the water bill by about three times the usual amount when he took fifteen freakin showers a day! And usually all he did besides that was play or talk about WoW.

thank you all for the support. I'm being harsher on this roomie than I need to be, because I am pretty darn sure now that unbeknownst to R, R has serious brain damage from an injury taken a few years ago. I am trying to see things that way and be Christlike about this- (Yes I'm a Christian, even if I don't act like one as much as I should. I snark, but I do draw the line somewhere) Thanks guys. UPDATE: R has improved massively, especially since I no longer buy R food or anything. And, very soon R will get medical benefits and be able to afford to move, and to see doctors. Yay for R!
