Can anyone suggest a good book?
I like english books(like writin by english folk.)
It helps expand my vocabulary.
I like quest, fantasy and anything along those lines.
I don't want a book with many pages.. I'll say 200-300.
I posted this in the Gaia fourms, but no one suggest anything writin by english authors..

I don't pay attention to where an author is from. I prefer to take the writing in solely for what it is.

I'll answer when you correct the title of this post.

NEVER end a sentence with a preposition.

I very much recommend anything written by Patricia P. Wrede. She's very good to read when you want to get into something. She's funny in a dry intelligent way and she's great for getting into reading fantasy. It worked for me. I was 11 when I first read her work.

It really, really, doesn't matter that much. Anyway, if you want something to fire up your brain, I suggest The Historian. Forgot the author, but Amazon should come up with it.

I'd suggest Piers Anthony. He's British, but moved to America... He's a really good Sci-fi/Fantasy writer, and his books keep you thinking.

I'd recommend either The Apprentice Adept series (seven books), or Incarnations of Immortality series (also seven books).

The author of The Historian is actually Bulgarian. I know this because my girlfriend is Bulgarian.

But as for any books written by an English person, then I suggest And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I took 'Major British Writers' in my junior year of high school and that is one of the books that I remember reading. It's about 250 or 300 pages from what I remember, and it's also a classic read. It's not a 'quest/fantasy' type though, but it is still a good read. It's more the 'mystery' type.

Recently, I've been reading the Warriors series from Erin Hunter, it is very good.

Also, in school I read the book "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" which is also very good. Unfortunately, I can't remember the author at this moment.

I would suggest Brian Jacques. Although his books are moreso aimed at a slightly younger reader, he uses very nice, description writing and the stories are easy to get into. He lives in Cornwall I believe, so he is definitely English.

JK Rowlings - the Harry Potter series
JR Tolkien- Lord of the Rings (I've only read two of those, but they'll definitely expand your vocabulary.)

David Eddings- (He's an American author, and his books are fairly old, but they're FANTASTIC!)
My favorite is Polgara the Sorceress-- but the Mallorean and Belgariad Series are great, as well.

Terry Pratchett. Decent length, good adventure plots, and the funniest stories you will ever read. My suggestion is that you read Mort first. It will give you a good idea about his style of writing. And it is the first of a good mini series he wrote. I highly recommend it. It is about a boy who is apprenticed to Death.

I would highly recommend "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman: "The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife," and "The Amber Spyglass." They're wonderful fantasy-ish books that you won't be able to put down. And I'm pretty sure Pullman is British, though I could be wrong. Seriously fantastic read, though!!

I'd suggest The Named series (Three books). The author's name slips my mind at the moment, but I do know she is Australian.
