I can't even remember half the jokes that offended me. They turned me off so much when I heard them I let them go right out the other ear so I wouldn't have to linger on them. I do remember that the whole puppet sex scene was the point in the show that I just stopped caring at all and just turned it off all together. I would have to see it again to pinpoint exact things and I would not spend money to see it again. Especially with tickets up over $100 now. There are not many shows out there I would spend that much money on... hence why I have seen very little of the shows this season and just went back to see some older shows that I can get cheaper tickets for.

And again, it was NOT the puppets that turned me off. I thought that was a GREAT idea and was part of what pulled me into the show. It was the jokes the puppets were making that just turned me off.

That's pretty damned reasonable. smile And tickets prices are exorbitant now. It's frustrating as hell. Have you tried for lotteries or student tickets and the like?

Exorbitant . Good word =P

I agree; it's absolutely insane how much ticket prices are now days. But I can also say that the most I had EVER spent on a ticket until a few months ago when I bought my Wicked tour ticket for September, was 60 dollars to see RENT. It's exceedingly nerve racking and inconsistent, but it really isn't all that hard to figure out how to get good, cheap tickets with standing room, student rush, day of, lottery, and other means.

I guess now that I think about it, Avenue Q wouldn't really be funny for anyone if there weren't people who were offended.

I've only ever lotto'ed for Wicked, which I actually won. I was gonna lotto for DRS once, cus it didn't look like a lot of people where there but I already had tickets that day. Now I have come to find that if it's not a show that you just CAN'T get tickets for and you REALLY want to see it, chancing on the lotto is a waste of time and then you end up paying an arm and a leg for a show anyways.

Student rush I have done. Once on Tarzan, twice on Wedding Singer, and once on Brooklyn, but since I don't live in the city and the only bus I can get into the city doesn't get me in til about 5 minutes before box offices for matinees open... I don't have the chance to get many good rush seats. Plus, not all the shows that I have not already seen or want to see offer a rush and I just hate to stand.

I guess I've mostly done lotto on tours, which generally have a smaller group who know about it, I would say; I have won Wicked, Spelling Bee, and High Fidelity on tour, as well as The Drowsy Chaperone on Bway.

I have fainting problems and thought that it would just be impossible for me to stand who a whole show. But I got standing room ticket to Spring Awakening because I really wanted to see it and they were the only tickets left. So we stood, and it was an amazing show, and we had better seats/standings than at least the 5 rows in front of us. Definately worth it for 21 dollars or what not.

All luck aside, though, day of is really the way to go if you can't spend a fortune. I was just talking to my theatre teacher today about this; I paid $100 for a Wicked tour ticket in September, she can't even get any tickets by now. It's crazy, but there's really nothing they can do about it. The shows still sell like crazy with insane prices, so they keep raising it. And if there's a show you NEED to see, there are options.

Beh: Things I hate about theatre. Competition, business, and politics. Other than that, it's bliss.

I've been fairly lucky in the lottery system and won to Avenue Q twice and the Producers. As for student rush or SRO, I'm one of those people who will get there way too early and sit for hours in the grimy box office alley. smile

I have paid a lot for a show before, but I don't regret it because I was able to see the OBC of Wicked right before they started breaking off and holy crap incredible. I live out of the city, too. Far out, actually, where no bus treads and trains are scared to venture. So I ended up paying for this site called nytix.com, which gives you all of the discounts and that jazz for 30 days. It's handy if you're planning on visiting the city for a short time and it's only 4 bucks. smile

Okay so I saw Spring Awakening today and I can now say that I really think that John Gallagher Jr. has got the featured actor in a musical Tony coming to him. And if Kevin Adams does not win for the lighting... that is a SIN! That was the best lighting I think I have ever seen in a Broadway show.
