I've been thinking about my soon to be quest character for a long time, and I've come to the conclusion that I've got too many good ideas for my own good. Mind if I ask for a little help?
Okay, I have three different character ideas. I'm just going to list them with a little info on each character in the order that I thought them up.
1. Paola Jimenez.
A South Americn native, Paola is a river guide in Ecuador on the Misahualli River (class 4 and 5). Because of her job, she has become fluent in English. She is in her mid-twenties and has been a guinea pig in several medical studies in the past. Due to financial reasons (for her family, I'm thinking), she decides to become a Feral Lab guinea pig for the money. The information is vague, but that is usual where Paola comes from.
She is fiery, passionate, but can easily be taken down by a sharp comment or trickery. She is very stubborn and is a risk-taker, but acts before she thinks things through. She is down-to-earth and can make a great omlette.
Her animal would be the yapok (or "water opossum"), one of the few marsupial animals in SA. It fits her personality and history (always in the water), but isn't the prettiest or recognised beast. Most would probably mistake the yapok for some kind of rat -- a thing that Paola would find very irritating once the animal features start showing. Backup animals would be the basilisk lizard and lowland tapir.
2. Dmetri
A young boy from Romania, his age is guessed to be between 10 and 14 years. Dmetri is a "foundling", one of more recent children to be found living with wolves. He was caught a few months prior to being sent to the island. His "family", a small pack of European gray wolves, was killed by hunters and he was found soon after in the wolves' den. His body had accustomed itself to living in the wild and on all fours -- his tendons and ligaments had shortened and shaped themselves so that he can not stand on his legs for long. His senses are much more acute than any normal human's, butthey are not at the same level of his packs'.
He got to the island by way of a doctor such-and-so -- a "friend" of Moreau's on business terms only. The doctor such-and-so realized that Moreau might have a better chance at socializing the boy, seeing as he worked with strange animals, &c. Doctor such-and-so doesn't know what really occurs on the island...
He is very wild, savage, due to having never been "civilized". He is not social, cannot speak, and is afraid of humans. In Romania, he tried several times to kill himself when he was locked up in a small room. If given the chance, and if he doesn't die along the way, Dmetri will open up to man, but he will never be at the same mental level as others his age.
His animal would be a blue hare or a rabbit, an animal that he would be familiar with only as prey. The psychological affects of the change will be tremendous, as the boy is basically turning from a "wolf" into something he ate.
3. Samuel "Spud" Fletcher.
Spud is an older man (later 40s - early 50s) from Nebraska. He was an electrician and the town grump. He is pessimistic and not the kind of person you'd like to meet in a dark alley (because he would give you an hour-long berating on how young punks are troublemakers and hooligans and shouldn't belong in dark alleys after curfew...)
He's not as detailed or thought out yet since he's so new, so no interesting back story yet.
His animal would be either a hyrax or a wombat, just because they would make good grumpy-old-men characters. (And because I want to play a hyrax or a wombat...)
Comments, ideas, critique, wrong forum? I've got a lot more to say on the first two characters, but I'm going to wait for the quest thread (or a request) before posting the rest of their stories.
