Figured with the torrent of bad news lately, maybe you'd guys would appreciate a small piece of good, albeit localized news.

Hoorah

Here's the gist of it: the new moderate Kansas school board has repealed conservative sex-education policies and replaced them with better policies. Now, instead of opt-in abstinence only education, Kansas students will have abstinence-plus education, with opt-in/out status determined by district.

In worse news, conservative board member Kathy Martin is still a royal idiot.
Idiot
"Abstinence until marriage is the best message we can give our children," Martin said.

She said the old standards "emphasized self-control over birth control," and the new standards "fail to give a true picture."

Yes, because actually telling kids factual information about birth control and disease prevention instead of screaming "DON'T DO IT" is missing the "true picture." rolleyes

Yay Kansas!

Now if only Nebraska would do the same.

Huzzah for Kansas! Glad to see that some states have some sense.

Even with ignorant people like her on a lot of the school boards.

If a whole state can do it, why can't the ******** Langley School District get their heads out of their asses and NOT hire CPC workers to give sex education talks?

...aside from the fact that I'm on the fringe of the local bible belt. I should remind myself that I am in an area where the local paper will advertise a pro-life event at a Christian school, where people hurling PC-disguised insults at someone who thinks religion is unneeded in this day and age are given the entire letters-to-the-editor section, and churches are overly common. At least I'm not asked what my beliefs are - and if I am, that will not go around much, as people actually respect the beliefs of others. I'm an open agnostic - open in the sense that if you ask me, I will tell you.

I want to see what kind of reaction being openly pro-choice will get me, though no one asks THAT either. Perhaps an advertisement of my stance and religious views at the talent show through a shirt would suffice. Not to get a rise out of them - but to see what they think.

In other good local news, FL legislature recently failed to pass a more restrictive parental notification law.

I figure in light of recent events, "God's wrath" occurring in Kansas, midwestern and other Southern States versus the Liberal States like the Northweast and Pacific West Coast remaining unscathed tells ya something.

Maybe "God" actually doesn't like this conservative bible thumping hypocritical s**t afterall. lol cool

... time for progress!
