Is it bad to use Hindi religious teachings to aid you in the Buddhist religion. I don't think it is but then again I could be wrong. It is more the teachings of kindness I follow. Just curious is all.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Peace heart

It depends on what you mean by wrong, I guess. To accept it as the true teaching, or something along those lines, could be considered "wrong" depending on who you ask. But learning what the teachings are, extracting their truth, understanding, etc...these cannot be wrong. Anything that can increase your understanding of Suchness or increase your compassion for those around you; I don't think anyone will claim that such things are wrong.

I see nothing wrong with it-especially if all it does is make you contemplate about whatever or it helps you with your meditatian.

What might be wrong is the view - keep in mind the eightfold path, one part of which is correct view. If the mix brings you harmony but is incorrect and leads you away from the truth you're seeking, is it really good for you in the long run?

I'm not saying this specific one is, but thought that needed to be addressed. 3nodding

I wouldn't think of borrowing from Hinduism as being a problem, especially since the old Buddhists did so extensively. Personally I find Shaiva-Shakta thought to be helpful.

I myself read Hindu devotionals (partially because I lyk the purty pictures lol) because it's nice knowing what's out there. Same thing with reading Sartre. A good bit of it's wrong, but at least you gain understanding of right and wrong through it.

I read some of the Mahabharata and couldn't help but be moved with compassion for the unfortunate souls within the pages. So much hate generating so much destruction for both guilty and innocent parties. *tear*
