Being a solitary practitioner has always been my way, but lately, I yearn for other people to be around me who at least have an interest in Wicca or Paganism, so I've decided I want to get a Coven together. I know there are a few girls and boys at my high school interested in Wicca and I've been thinking about putting up flyers, having people who are interested call me or email me...
But I have a few doubts. Not about the getting the Coven together in itself, that hasn't even happened yet, I'll worry about it more when I find people who want to learn and be apart of my faith or another branch of Pagansim, but about what will happen once I put flyers up. I remember my Freshman year, a girl was looking for other Wiccans and so put up a few flyers. Some were left alone, others were ripped apart and scattered on the ground. I remember picking up the halves of one that was ripped and thrown on the ground and taping it back up. I walked away and then kids came over and ripped it down again. sad I'm worried that it'll scare people away who are interested.

That is quite the predicament; people are very likely to tear it down again. I'm not even sure if it has anything to do with what is said on the flyer, so much as the fact that high school kids just like to destroy what isn't theirs.

You could try a direct approach. Do you know these others personally who are interested in Wicca and Paganism? If so, you could always talk to them about it, and see what they think; it may still work out.

I'm sorry...

I'm not sure what else to tell you. sad Good luck.

The way I look at it is if and when you're meant to be around other Wiccans (or people who share the same beliefs, etc) physically, then you will meet them. (This doesn't mean that you can't still look for them, just don't get your hopes up if you don't find any you think you can trust and be friends with).

I know how you feel, I always wanted at least one person who shared my beliefs in my life (not just on the internet). And I knew of a few people at my school that said they were Wiccan, but they seem like the people who only say they are because they think it makes them look cool, you know. Except this one guy, he was born into a Wiccan family, so I know that was real, but he was a complete jackass. So, you see, you can know of people who are Wiccan, but that doesn't mean they are the right people for you to practice with.

Now, if you're already friends with these people, then by all means, go for it. But, if you do not yet know them, then I'd suggest getting to know them first to see if they're the "real deal" and to build up a little trust first.

I also know how thrilled you will be when you do finally find someone. When my best friend and I got on the topic (I don't remember how we did, but we did) I found out that she was also Wiccan (we were already really close before I found out). I was so excited to finally have someone in my life who knew believed the same things I do.

I'm still a Solitairy practiticner, but it's still great just having someone with the same beliefs.

to Rebel_Dynasty: Thanks, it's okay that you don't know what else to say, the fact that you're being supportive helps just the same. 3nodding

to dark_angel: I do see what you're saying and I completely understand when you say that they might not be the real deal. So far, the only people open about it, a single freshman, I don't think really understands Wicca or Paganism... At least, not fully. She thinks it's all about being pretty and magickal and I agree that Paganism IS about having magick in yourself, but she only sees the "trendy" parts of it. Currently anyway, maybe she'll change, but I can't see myself trusting her, but-

-I am happy to say though that I did have a little excitement today. I'm a TA for our library (self proclaimed book-worm sweatdrop ) and it was closed today for an Advanced placement test, so I headed up to my other little sanctuary, the art room. There was only one girl in there whom I knew, whom I've known since we were little through our parents and we've always been friendly, so I sat with her and we started talking. It's actually hot now, so I don't have to carry sweatshirts with me and I had a tank top on and my pentacle was showing.
I wonder now if I've been feeling like this, because she was too! She gasped and grabbed my hand and then started whispering about being a Wiccan and how she's been looking for someone whose interested in Wicca. I almost started to cry, happy tears of course and both of us forgot about the art we were working on. This sounds so cliche, but the Goddess works in mysterious ways. heart
It's not a Coven, but it feels good to know someone I already

That's great! ^^ You've found one like-minded Wiccan. Hopefully, you two can find a few others, and go from there.

I know the happy tears thing; it doesn't happen often, but sometimes I'm so happy, I start to cry a bit.

And you're right, the Goddess does work in mysterious ways.

The girl you mentioned before sounds a bit fluffy bunny-ish; she may come around, and actually get down to the core of Wicca...

Or it may just be a passing fad for her. I know plenty of those... stare

On a ratio, I'd say fakes are 15 to a real Wiccan's 1 where I live...

Word gets around in a small school like mine. sweatdrop Though I'm definitely not complaining. Three girls, sophmores I believe, came up to me today and said they had heard of my wanting to get a Coven together and wanted to join. 0_o Two of them actually seemed serious, the third unsure, but she said she wanted to learn more about Wicca.
We're all going to meet up Monday during my lunch break and talk a little bit. Does anyone have any suggestions on anything that I should mention to them?

Good luck all around. A real coven is a wonderful thing to have. Besides the support lent to the practice, the amazing complete support from one member to another is beyond almost anything you'll ever feel. I can offer no advice on how to get a coven together because mine found me. But I can understand the yearning, the desire for perspective and clarity that can only be gained through group effort. Good luck.

Well, you could start off by seeing how much each of them knows about Wicca already, and go from there. Teach them the Wiccan Rede, about the Lord and Lady, the Sabbats, the tools, etc.

Don't worry; I'm sure you'll get osme organization skills from this. It seems the Lord and Lady have a sense of humour, here; they're teaching you something new, like how to organize and get a coven together...

In a chaotic manner, lol.

I'm sure you'll do just fine. Trust yourself. wink
