Oh, good lord.
Is nothing safe from these wackos? First, they make "family" into a dirty word; I can't hear/see it without thinking about the jerks who are trying to take and keep my rights from me. Now they're boycotting a perfectly wholesome toy? And if they're worried about politics "invading playtime" (and teh ebil gays, from whom I'm sure the right-wingers can protect their children ALWAYS AND FOREVER rolleyes ), why are they sucking even MORE politics into playtime?!
For the love of god it's just a ******** toy. Let kids have fun. Must they taint everything?

o_O! Quote: "Girls Inc.," one mother warned, "is pro-abortion and pro-contraception and pro all the other lies the secular world wants our girls to believe." Pro-contraception? OH NOES!! Honestly, it's a pity that those parents can't get over that one facet of the organization. Girls, Inc. looks to be a wonderful and useful organization. Hopefully the dissent of a few nuts doesn't do them any harm.

oh, jesus ******** christ. what the hell will it be next? Sesame Street? OHNOES! they're teaching our children how to COUNT! what if they use that knowledge to portion cocaine?! WHAT EVER WILL WE DO? wait, my bad, cocaine is okay as long as you're not snorting it with/selling it to a feminist or a homosexual. MY BAD. these people have a wonderful way of turning a perfectly good toy (whose makers are even donating a part of their proceeds to a good cause) into the ******** Satanic revolution. i didn't even see this... Quote: "Girls Inc.," one mother warned, "is pro-abortion and pro-contraception and pro all the other lies the secular world wants our girls to believe." words ...escape ...me. burning_eyes crying

Quote: Founded 141 years ago, Girls Inc., which used to be known as Girls Clubs, offers after-school programs to underprivileged girls on subjects ranging from pregnancy prevention to substance abuse. And on its vast Web site, amid proclamations of empowerment, Girls Inc. states its support for girls who might be questioning their sexuality, as well as a woman's right to an abortion. I fail to see how a company like AG supporting an organisation such as Girls Inc. is a bad thing. I didn't know about this company. More girls need to be aware of this site, and what these people do. Then maybe they'd have the knowledge to AVOID pregnancy and abortion, as well as drugs and the ability to grow up to become strong women. But then again, it's all about control for these 'pro-life' parent's. They think keeping little Suzie in a ******** bubble, will stop her from experimenting with little Bobby's weewee, and popping a few pills her little friends say will make her 'cool'.

Conservative ******** have been "boycotting" American Girls for some time now. It's actually not that new of a news story.
I remember reading the American girls storybook series when I was 8 years old. There were like 5 different girls in different time periods. I wouldn't say that they were the most empowering books I've ever read in my life, but it was "nice" to read stories about girls as the main character.
The same Conservatives also boycott Disney because Disney is not hateful enough towards gay/lesbians and even has a day of celebration for them.
Aside from a few radicals who would practice every decree to the jot and tittle, most families are happy that they can set their kids to a TV screen, watch a Disney flick and shut them up. They might even laugh at a few of the jokes that would typically fly over a youngster's head.
And books, being an increasingly archaic medium of its own right, would surely make a parent happy to see their little girl reading the American girl books. Since it's just stories of little girls, fertility issues aren't usually a part of it.

I heard about this a few years ago. I remember reading letters to the editor in Time or Newsweek or something. One person wrote something to the effect of "Maybe they should make a teen-mother themed American Girl doll to pacifiy these people, if they're really against abortion and contraception."
I think it was a mother. I sure as hell hope it was!

I love American Girl dolls. I had Josefina and I still have my "My Twin" doll from that company. Personally, this just makes me love the company more.

Well, I admit I'd be among the first organizing a boycott against any pro-life company. I still refuse to eat Domino's Pizza. Crap, and while I was searching that I realized I can never go to a Curves gym, either. Also, I quit reading the San Diego Reader even though it is free, because Jim Holman, who funded props 73 and 85, is who owns it. Proof Here and Here. The second article also mentions that he attacks gays and Planned Parenthood. No suprise.

It makes sense for Girls Inc. and American Girls to support reproductive rights and gay rights. After all, they're supposed to support individuality and whatnot, and part of that would be making choices for yourself. But for ******** sake, that doesn't mean they're "putting politics into playtime"! God, these people need to get their heads out of their asses.
I remember in middle school, a friend of mine collected American Girl dolls. She quit speaking to me when I came out. Yup, American Girls are totally going to corrupt the girls playing with them. rolleyes
