Kanto RegionThe most well-known of the four main regions, Kanto was the region from which the entire concept of the Pokemon League originated. Though the other regions sometimes have their own versions of the Elite Four, the annual Pokemon Master Tournament held at Indigo City, with the winner put through a grueling gauntlet-style battle against the entire Elite Four, is undoubtedly the most famous of all.
Pallet TownThe starting point of many a Pokemon journey, Pallet Town is where many trainers from the Kanto region, and nearby regions, can go to receive their starting Pokemon from Professor Oak.
The only real point of interest in Pallet Town is Oak's Pokemon lab, where the good professor spends his days compiling data on Pokemon sent to him by various trainers to whom he had given a Pokedex. He also owns several acres of land directly behind his lab, where he keeps some trainers' overflow Pokemon, and allows injured Pokemon to recuperate.
Pallet Town connects to Viridian City via Route 1, and to the Cinnabar Islands by the oceanic Route 21.
Viridian CityThe first city reached after starting from Pallet, Viridian City is also considered to be the gateway to the Pokemon League challenge, as a road leading west from Viridian will take one onto the path to the Indigo Plateau.
Aside from this, there really isn't much to see in Viridian City other than a few schools, some shopping centers, and the Viridian City Gym. Viridian City connects south to Pallet Town via Route 1, north to Viridian Forest via Route 2, and west to Victory Road on Route 22.
Viridian ForestViridian Forest lies between Viridian City and Pewter City. The trees in the forest are so thick that little light gets in. It is full of Bug- and Flying-type Pokémon. A natural maze, many people become lost inside.
Both the north and south entrances of Viridian Forest open to Route 2.
Pewter CityAfter making their way through Viridian Forest, travelers will encounter Pewter City shortly up the road. Set in the foothills of Mt. Moon, most of the buildings and architecture in Pewter City are based on the abundance of rock building material, particularly granite, in the area.
Key points of interest in Pewter City include the Kanto Museum of Science, which has a number of displays on extinct Pokemon, as well as humanity's recent forays into space. The replica space shuttle Columbia on display had been removed for a time due to sensitivity to the tragic shuttle disaster many years ago, but has since been returned as a memorial to the crew.
Pewter City connects south to Viridian Forest via Route 2, and east to Mt. Moon via Route 3.
Mt. MoonMt. Moon is a mountain located in northern Kanto, between Pewter City in the west and Cerulean City in the east. Climbing it is not possible. To get past it, travelers need to travel through the caves.
It is known for its frequent meteor falls. The shards of meteorites that fall here become Moon Stones.
Mt. Moon is also known for being one of the few places that wild Clefairy can be found.
To the west, Route 3 leads back to Pewter City, while to the east, Route 4 goes on to Cerulean City.

Cerulean City
To the east of Pewter City, on the far side of Mt. Moon, is Cerulean City. Sitting on the mouth of a river inlet that runs out to the sea, Cerulean is a city that has long been associated with the ocean.
Cerulean City is home to the Kanto region's bike shop, selling everything from stock kiddie bikes to customized motorcycles the likes of which normally only appear on episodes of Johto Chopper. Sometimes the shop owners get confused and charge the price of a custom motorcycle for a bike.
Other points of interest include the home of Bill, about a mile northeast of Cerulean City. Bill is the technogenius that created the Pokemon Storage and Transferral System that nearly every trainer in existence takes advantage of to this day.
Another mile east of Bill's house is Cerulean Point, the easternmost point of the main continent of the Kanto region. The cape projecting out over the ocean, as well as the nearby beaches, are considered to be prime romantic locations.
Route 5 leads south to Saffron City, Route 4 leads back west to Mt. Moon, Route 9 leads east toward the power plant and Rock Tunnel, and Route 24 leads north toward Bill's house and Cerulean Point.
Rock TunnelThe Rock Tunnel is a naturally formed underground tunnel. Because it has not been developed, it is pitch black inside. A light of some sort is needed for travelers to find their way. It is recommended that Pokémon Trainers bring along a Pokémon that can use Flash outside of battle.
The Rock Tunnel has two separate floors.
The northern end opens up in the upper half of Route 10 near the Power Plant and a Pokémon Center, the other side exits in the southern end of Route 10, near Lavender Town.
Power PlantThe Power Plant is a facility that that was abandoned years ago, though some of the machinery still works. It is infested with Electric-type Pokémon.
It is located on Route 10, although to reach it, a Pokémon must Surf along a river which can only be accessed on Route 9.
The Power Plant is the only known roost of the Legendary Pokémon, Zapdos.
It has only one story. Some of the items found in the Power Plant include a Carbos, TM33 (Reflect), TM25 (Thunder), a Rare Candy, and an HP Up.
However, many of the item capsules littering the Power Plant are actually camoflauged Voltorb or Electrode, so treasure seekers should be wary.

Lavender Town
Lavender Town at one time had the Pokémon Tower, which was the only place where one can catch a Gastly in Kanto. It was one of the smallest towns in the region with a population of only 33 people, including the kindly Mr. Fuji, and is believed to still be heavily haunted by Ghost Pokémon.
Later, Lavender town grew in size, and the Radio Tower replaced the Pokemon Tower, and the graves of all the pokemon were moved to an underground area. These days, Lavender town is a pretty bustling little town, with more jobs due to the radio tower, and other establishments.
Lavender Town has no Gym.
North of Lavender is Route 10 and the Rock Tunnel. West of the town is Route 8, south is Route 12 and the Silence Bridge.
Pokemon TowerThe Pokémon Tower is a seven-story tower located in Lavender Town. On all seven floors, the tower houses hundreds of graves of deceased Pokémon. Many people visit the building daily to pay their respects to the fallen. On all floors other than the first two, though, the possibility of being attacked by wild Pokémon is present. Later, the tower was converted into the Kanto Radio Tower, undergoing a similar transformation to the Power Plant to the north.
Aside from graves, the tower is home to wild Cubone as well as many Ghost-type Pokémon. During Ash's journey, Team Rocket tried to steal the Cubone to sell their valuable skulls. In the process, a mother Marowak that was protecting her Cubone child was killed. The ghost of the mother Marowak haunted the tower until Ash was able to knock it out, setting her spirit free. The Marowak that appears here cannot be caught, even if a Master Ball is used. Mr. Fuji attempted to confront Team Rocket, but ended up being taken hostage himself and required the help of Ash to be released. As a show of gratitude, Mr. Fuji gave Ash the Poké Flute.
The Ghost-type Pokémon in the tower appear to have a unique ability to disguise themselves as the ghosts of humans. However, a Silph Scope will reveal their true natures and identity, allowing the Pokémon to be engaged in battle.
A special spot on the fifth floor has been made into a wild Pokémon-free healing area.
Vermillion CitySitting on the northeastern rim of the Bay of Kanto, Vermillion City is the largest, some argue the only, port city in the Kanto region. Much of western section of Vermillion is devoted to the commercial port, and the main focus usually lies on the southern port, where the famous cruise ship S.S. Anne docks once a year.
Other key points of interest include the Pokemon Fan Club sitting almost on the bay, and the Diglett Cave a few miles east of the city. The cave is a direct route back to Pewter City and Viridian City, allowing one to get across the continent in relative ease and speed.
Aside from the Harbor, the other exits to the city are Route 11 and Diglett's Cave to the east. North of the city is Route 6.
Celadon CityCeladon City is the second largest city in Kanto. It is home to a department store (the largest Pokémart in Kanto), a hotel, a Game Corner and a mansion. At the mansion, A trainer can get a certificate for completing their Kanto Pokédex and some tea.
At the Celadon Game Corner, people may play casino games using a currency of special coins. These coins can be redeemed at a shop next door to redeem prizes, such as rare Pokémon or Technical Machines. Underneath the Game Corner, many years ago, was the Team Rocket Hideout, where the boss, Giovanni was defeated soundly by Ash. After he was defeated, he returned to his gym in Viridian City. This hideout does not exist today.
The Pokemart is home to various special events that trainers and non-trainers alike can attend, such as minor pokemon contests, big rooftop sales, and fairs. It is also one of the only places in ANY region that sells 'Evolution Stones', the Fire, Water, Leaf, and Thunder stones, for evolving pokemon. They get sold out quickly, so trainers, try to be there when stock comes in!

Cycling Road
Route 17, also known as Cycling Road, is a north-south route in central Kanto. Only people with Bicycles or Motorcycles are permitted to travel on the road, making the route a favorite hangout for motorcyclists and bicyclists alike. The northern terminus of Route 17 is at Route 16 on top of the steep hill that makes up the entire length of Route 17. The southern terminus is at the base of the hill, where it becomes Route 18.
The hill makes traveling towards Fuchsia City a breeze. The slog uphill towards Celadon City is considerably slower and more difficult.
Saffron CitySaffron City is the largest city in Kanto. It is most notable for housing Silph Co., a massive office complex that spans eleven floors. Silph Co. also has relations with Omega Corp, and the two are in business arrangements. The spokesman for Omega within Silph in Saffron is Miyuki, an upbeat girl with a head for numbers. It is also notable for having had two separate gyms, though one was unofficial.
Two Gyms exist in Saffron City. One is the official Pokémon League Gym, and next to it stands the Fighting Dojo, an unofficial gym made up of Fighting trainers. City residents say that the Fighting Dojo was once an official League Gym, but lost its status to the rival Psychic gym when Sabrina ran it. Since then, it has become just a Dojo, training man and pokemon alike in the martial arts.
Silph Co. is a very elaborate location that utilizes teleport pads to warp the employees from location to location. Utilizing the highest technology possible for quick movement in short bursts, Silph Co, with the help of Omega Electric Power Company, has become one of the five most prominent businesses in all of the world, and in terms of Pokemon materials and non-military transportation technology, it is the greatest. Of late, Silph has also been working on biological/medical technology in an underground complex under Saffron. Security is tight at the Silph building, and no one not employed by the company can go beyond the first two floors. Underground access is strictly prohibited and monitored. Since the partial merger, the symbol of Silph-Omega is a stylized Umbrella.
Saffron also houses the Magnet Train, which runs between Saffron and Goldenrod City in the Johto region.

Fuchsia City
Fuchsia City is the southernmost city on the Kanto mainland. It is most notable for housing the Safari Zone, a large area where trainers of all ages can catch Pokémon that cannot be found anywhere else on Kanto, some of them exceedingly rare, like Kangaskhan.
Koga was the Fuchsia City Gym Leader originally, before his stint in the Elite Four. Koga's daughter, Janine, ran the gym after he departed.
Route 15 leads into the city from the east, Route 18 from the west, and the beach of Route 19 is in the south.
Cinnabar IslandCinnabar Island is home to a new, updated laboratory and an old, abandoned mansion. One can go to the laboratory to trade some Pokémon and identify the fossils found in Pewter City and Mt. Moon. There are also some diaries in the mansion, with brief information on Mewtwo's creation, as well as records on old rocket projects. While these diaries are in great disrepair, still, some of the old files are also accessible, even today. Wild Pokémon also live in the mansion. The gym was reinstated, no longer in the volcano, but situated on top of it, in a great glass dome on a platform. The volcano, now dormant, is no longer a danger.
Several years ago, Cinnabar Island had been destroyed in a volcanic eruption, and every building on the island except the Pokémon Center was gone. Blaine, the Gym Leader who used Fire-type Pokémon, relocated his gym to the nearby Seafoam Islands, but when the Seafoam Terraformation Project began, he was booted back to Cinnabar, which was also terraformed as a side project.
Indigo CityIndigo City serves as the capital for the Kanto region. It is the final destination for Pokémon trainers competing in Indigo or Johto League competitions against the Elite Four. It is also the location of the Indigo Plateau Conference and the Kanto Grand Festival.
