Technician L wiped a smudge of water from her paperwork. It left a soggy ink smear, but it didn't matter. The good copy was sitting under a sheet of carbon paper covered with a sheet of plastic. Her pen rolled off her clipboard, and her shoes squealched against the rubber flooring of the playroom when she stepped forwards to retrieve it. The subject Sandthresher was amusing herself with a shallow tub of water nearby, and L already had a feeling that she was only going to get wetter, despite the droplets already soaked into her white lab coat.

Glaceu fiddled with the side of her tub, poking and prodding the unresisting metal. Finally giving up on making it a little more yielding she went back to cupping the water in her palms and splashing herself. She was already soaked, silver hair plastered to her face, neck and back. She giggled softly and looked up as Technician L went to retrieve her pen. She tilted her head and flicked more water in the woman's direction. How could she stand to stay dry for so long?

"Hurry up Sai! We're already five minuets late." Jescobe hissed softly and he tugged the unresponsive man behind him, ignoring the indigo glaze that was steadily burning a hole in his skull.

"If you ever bothered to pay attention, you'd notice that your watch is actually 10 minuets fast." Saiyori responded, there was a hint of annoyance in his quiet voice, making the alto sound just a tad deeper. "I've done that to all of your clocks, every year, since we began living together." For the seventh time since his friend had dragged him from his shop he wondered just why he was going along with this. "I hope you didn't tell them that we are a couple..." He threatened, voice low to prevent anyone from overhearing him.

"Of course not!" Jescobe replied, turning his head to glance at the crimson haired man in surprise before turning back to look at the room numbers. "Like I would do that. They would know it was a lie the moment they saw you. I mean, sure you're pretty enough to be a woman, but sheesh. You practically scream 'I'm A-sexual so stop mentally undressing me!'." He stopped in front of a room, and glanced down at a number scribbled on his palm. "This is it. You get to meet my little girl." He raised his hand to knock, then hesitated. "...You have an opinion here too you know. That's why I brought you today, instead of the next time. If...if you don't like her, then I can't take her home. She'd have to stay here, while I came by, you know." He took a deep breath and knocked.

"Idiot. Even if I didn't like her, I wouldn't tell you that. You deserve to be a parent, even if they aren't yours by blood. Despite your ditzyness you have what it takes to be a parent." Saiyori shook his head, and pushed a few of his loose long locks off of one side of his face. As usual, his hid partially behind his hair. "We're still a bit early, I hope they don't mind."

Carefully sheilding the precious documents by keeping her back to Glaceu and the tub of water, L rechecked the file containing information on the prospective mentor. On the next page there was a short description and a small blurb about his housemate. Odd name. There was a knock at the door and the impatient technician almost smiled. They were early.

She opened the door and stepped to the side to let them come in. "Mr. Jescobe Homiko and Mr." What was his name again? The odd one. "..Saiyori." she greeted formally. Techie L handed them a thick manilla file labeled SANDTHRESHER, wrapped in plastic. "This is a copy of all relevant data we have on the child you may be mentoring. I'm afraid you'll have to read it later and elsewhere as it might get wet here. She answers to the name of Glaceu."

Saiyori smiled a wan smile as Technician L paused on his name. Yes it was quite unusual, but at the time is was better then the other names he had been given to choose from. He'd have rather not been known as 'Sasakura' or 'Genjou'. "If my given name is too much, you can call me by my Surname, Glademoon." He offered, still as polite as anything as he stepped inside the room. His smile turned into a grimace at the comment about reading the papers later.

"Don't mind Sai here, he's still a bit sensitive over his name, even if he doesn't show it." Jescobe said laughing as he took the file. "Maa maa, silk probably wasn't good to wear today, it's going to get all wet." Even though he said this, his gaze had been drawn to the little girl in the tub, who'd frozen as soon as the door had opened, and now attempted to sink down low enough as to not draw attention to herself.

"Mmm, you're right." Saiyori murmured, one hand smoothing down the silk Chinese styled top he wore His tone of voice gave little insight on his thoughts about it getting destroyed. "She is Glaceu?" He asked, knowing his words were fairly redundant seeing as she was the only child in the room.

"Hello sweetie." Jessy said, moving slowly to sit by her tub. "I'm Jessy, and that overgrown kitty there is Sai." He motioned towards Saiyori, who rolled his eyes and reluctantly started to inch forward.

"...Glaceu..." Glaceu murmured, eyeing the red haired feline as he crept closer. He didn't look like he'd like playing in the water, but this man next to her did. She smiled a small shy smile, tail wagging slightly. The tub had enough water in it, that it went up to her chest, and was easy enough to make small waves. A little bit of water sloshed out of the tub, and got the orange haired man wet, but he didn't do much other then grin. The red haired man by this time had moved to stand behind his mate. "Kitty." Glaceu giggled, and reached out to him, water running in rivulets down her arms.

"Saiyori." Sai corrected, grimacing again at the sight of all that water, but obligingly reached out to touch one of her hands. "A pleasure to meet you."

Techie L retreated out of range of the splashing...or as close to it as she could get. It was a fairly small playroom after all. At once, she began to take notes on the interaction. So far, Saiyori didn't seem much like a person who liked small children, but that would only be an issue if they planned to take her home. Glaceu would need water to fully experiance her enviroment. Her abilities were basically sensory equippment made for functioning aquatically. You couldn't detect small electrical impulses through air, and although she could probably smell, her nose wouldn't be nearly as sharp as it was underwater.

L frowned, crossed out her last note and scribbled down something else. Saiyori didn't seem like he much liked water either, although it was hard to tell which. She paused for a moment, nipping the end of her pen, then continued to write.
PostPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 6:55 pm

"Plea..ssss...err?" Glaceu mimicked, scrunching up her nose as she sounded out the unfamiliar word. "What's that?" Her tail absently sent a flock orange rubber duckies scurrying away for their plastic lives.

"Plezh-er," Saiyori sounded correctly, "It means different things but mainly, that I am happy to meet you." He blinked then sighed, "You're right Jescobe, I am too much like a teacher for my own good." He shook his head and squatted down eyes running over the contents in the tub.

Jescobe just laughed, "I think you were born to be one, isn't that right Glaceu? This grumpy Kitty likes to read out loud too. So if you like bed-time stories he's the one to ask."

Teal eyes lit up at the mention of stories, she liked stories, especially ones about mermaids and the ocean. Her favorite ones had to be 'Swan Lake' and 'The Little Mermaid'. If Kitty wouldn't mind she wouldn't say no to listening to him read to her, because she liked the sound of his voice. Despite his attitude he gave off a sense of security and understanding. The only thing wrong with him, was that he didn't seem to like water. But a beach had sand and stuff on it, so so so he'd be okay there, with Jessy. They could all build sandcastles and Jessy could swim with her and Kitty would sit under one of those huge umbrellas like she'd seen other families have.

"I'm not grumpy." Sai muttered, ignoring the stifled giggles of the girl in the tub. Instead he picked out one of the smaller rubber duckies and examining it commented, "This one looks like you carrot-top. Small, slightly idiotic, and glaringly bright."

"Hey! I resemble that remark! And I'm not 'small' I'm only vertically challenged. " Jessy harrumphed and scooped some water to throw at his roommate. The anthro flinched as he was hit in the chest and a look of disbelief was painted on his feline features. "Glaceu and I shall can play here by ourselves, until someone learns to play nice." He leaned over the tub and herded the duckies back to the center of the tub. "Now, these are yours and these three are mine."

Saiyori pouted, hand splayed out on the wet patch on his shirt. Silk really was a bad thing to wear, but he doubted there was any type of chemical in the water, so all his apparel would need was a bit of attention later. He eyed the two and stood, with the duckie still in his hand and retreated to a corner away from the two. If he was to be 'punished' he might as well read up on his roommates 'daughter'. He settled down, tail curled between his legs as he braced the now open folder with his knees. Purple eyes devoured the text on the pages, ignorant of the blue eyes that occasionally glanced his way. After all, he hated being the clueless one in situations such as these.

Interesting, very interesting. The questionable roomate person still didn't seem to be happy about small children, but he might make an effective teacher once the candidate was older. The Faction S staff had enough on their hands as it was for training the kids in lore and special abilities, not to mention the mentors that chose to have their mentorees recieve schooling here at the facility rather than enrolling them in public school. In some cases, the child had such specialized needs that there wasn't much of a choice, but these incidents were rare. L scribbled down a few more notes and checked her watch. 10 minutes had passed.

"We need a good sail boat." Jessy said as he attempted to make one of his duckies 'king of the foam mountain' only to watch it sink straight through.

"Why?" Glaceu asked, running her own portion of the herd through the There were two duckies balanced precariously on the lip of the metal tub. Her nose tickled, and she reached a foam covered hand up to rub it. She glanced at Techy L then Jessy, then at Saiyori before settling her gaze firmly on Jessy. The tickling wouldn't go away and she whined softly before sneezing, body jerking hard enough that water sloshed over the sides of the tub.

Jessy made a startled sound and half raised himself up before sinking back down. He looked at his clothing, where most of his skirt was soaked through as well as the crotch and legs of his pants. "Well now, it looks like I had quite the accident." He said laughing, not yet noticing the horrified look on the child's face.

Glaceu had paled at the sight of Jessy all wet and had sunk as low as she could in the water. She didn't mean to get him all wet! It was an accident! She hunched over and waited for the yelling to start after his laughter had run out.

Sai frowned as he watched the girls reaction, his attention having been drawn away from the papers at the sound of the sneeze. "Jescobe, really. Can I not take you anywhere without you embarrassing yourself?" He asked as he stood, leaving the papers in the safety of the rooms corner. "Look at you, all wet. You'll catch a cold if you stay in that." He reached out to finger a wet sleeve before moving over to run his fingers through Glaceu's hair. "Never you mind him. He's oblivious to the important things most of the time."

Jessy's face had blossomed a shade of red that clashed visibly with his hair during Saiyori's speech. It was part lecture part teasing and the warm affection behind his words took out any sting that might have been there.

Glaceu flinched at the initial contact, but when the gentle pressure didn't chance she hesitantly relaxed. "...sorry.." She whispered, playing with her fingers.

"No need to apologize. It was an accident after all, and no one important was affected." He ignored the indigent squawking of the carrot-top beside him. He kneeled down in the puddle of water, pushing aside the moaning voice in his head complaining about water and silk not mixing. "What say we settle down and properly bond hmm?"

"It's about time you caved Sai! I hope you still have that bird because you can't have mine!"

Okay..scratch that. L was beginning to doubt her earlier analysis. These two were..were...there was no other word for it: Childish. Could they really expect to raise a young girl properly? Well, probably. Despite the Techie's dislike, it would likely make them more sociable towards her. Subject Sandthresher wasn't really all that unruly and thus far hadn't needed any firm discipline anyway, unlike some of the other kids. Some in particular had the ability to give even the most patient caretakers a massive headache. L scribbled a few things on her clipboard and checked her watch again. 30 minutes had passed.

After a little while Sai pulled away from the games and rocked back to balance on his paws. His knees were pulled to his chest, where he folded his arms to his rest his head. He simply...observed the two, keeping his comments to himself for once. Jescobe was quite childish, with his world seemingly revolving around this one bazaar little girl with a sharks tail. He wondered then and there if his friend would ever drop the act and be the man he'd first met all those years ago.

Glaceu couldn't help but pause in mid motion when Kitty had pulled away. Was he mad again? No, he just looked thoughtful as he stared at Jessy. Kitty didn't seem like the type of person who could play forever, like Jessy did. He was like some of those important people she'd seen walking along the beach with their kids. Patient but unwilling to put up with overly playful children. He was kind, he had a gentleness to him, that was shadowed by the false life in his eyes. She wanted to help him, to get rid of that false light and make it real. She frowned and offered him the duckie in her hand, eyes pleading with him to re-join them.

Jessy pretended to be as obilivious as usual, knowing that if he were to do anything 'out of character' Saiyori would clam up faster then a clam with a pearl inside. Apparently his little girl had seen what he'd seen, Saiyori's most predominant problem and was set on helping him, as they would help her. He felt a swell of pride at that moment and just wanted to hug both of them, even if they didn't know what they did to deserve it.

Sai blinked as the hideously orange duck slid into his line of sight, one ear twitching backwards his only sign of surprise. "Aa...?" He asked, reaching out to take the duck even as his eyes traveled down to meet the pleading gaze. "All right." He murmured, one corner of his mouth quirking into a smile. He absently reached over to tug on Jessies hair, an affectionate move on his part before he slid his fingers through Glaceu's own mop. After reading what he had, he knew he wouldn't be able to say No to taking her home. If they were allowed to.

Well, this was an interesting development. Even in light of childish adult role models, Sandthresher was taking initiative to include everyone in the group. Events like this marked an important stage in emotional development. Techie L rapidly marked it down and checked her watch again. 40 minutes had passed.

Idly Sai squeezed the ducky in his hand, listening to it squeak in protest. He stared at it, a wry smile tugging his lips as he squeezed it again, this time slower.

Glaceu giggled at the sound of the ducky and squeezed her own in reply. A double squeak, one fast the other slow.

Jessy laughed, and started tapping out a beat with his fingers and knuckles against tubs rim. Soon enough the three of them had a chaotic sort of music recital with the much abused duck squeaks, metal thuds, and laughter.

He couldn't help but continue on with the madness that he'd inadvertently started. It was contagious, the laughter in the air and happiness in the eyes of his roommate and soon-to-be daughter. Absently he wondered just what the Lab Tech thought of their foolishness.

Some sort of appreciation for music. Well, that was usually a good thing. L noted it down and put a question mark next to it for good measure. She looked back over her notes, then opened her copy of the enormous file to crosscheck a few facts. An odd pair, they were, and maybe not suitable for raising most children but Glaceau was an unusually tame little girl. Likely, they wouldn't have any trouble at all. It might even be better for her if her mentor was a little more on her level and little less intimidating than most adults could be. With this firmly in mind, L jotted down another note and checked her watch. 50 minutes had passed.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:52 pm

Jessy eventually eased himself out of the chaotic music making and ran a wet hand through his hair. He felt tired suddenly, but a good kind of tired. "Ne, Glaceu, next time I come by I'll bring you a book. It's a big book filled with all the animals that live in the sea." He grinned, "Sai and I can read to you then, or we can do something else." He scratched the back of his neck in thought, he didn't know what type of room they might end up in. It could be another room like this, barren of a lot of things they could play with.

"I'd like that." Glaceu murmured, "Can't read very well, will you teach me?" She liked looking at books, especially picture books with simple sentences underneath. But they got boring after a while, especially when she knew that the bigger books had to be more interesting. But the last time she'd had one, all the words confused her, and they were hard to say. She could even take a book with her into the tub, as long as she didn't get it wet. It would got all soggy and the pages would fall out if she did.

"Of course we will. Learning to read will be the first thing that you and I will start on. After that we can move onto other things, like Zoology." At her blank look Saiyori quickly amended, "Animals. We'll learn about animals."Perhaps later on you'll be able to get a kitten or puppy"

"Oh! You can probably get a kitten or puppy later on!" Jescobe added, eyes bright.

"Or a goldfish to start out with." Saiyori said dryly, "If it stops moving I wont have to deal with you blubbering and giving it an elaborate funeral."

"What's a Funeral?" Glaceu asked, looking between the two, a small frown on her face."

"It's different for everyone, but it's basically a bunch of people getting together to say goodbye to someone they all knew. Sometimes everyone is sad and others they're sad, but determined to be happy for the person who went away. Jescobe said after a moment of panic. "You wont need to go to a funeral for a long long time."

"Okay."

L grew a bit leery when the conversation drifted towards dangerous subject matter, but Mr. Homiko pulled off a spectacular save. Bonus points to him for managing to skirt a difficult question. Anyway, time was up. She checked her watch again just to be sure before standing up and saying loudly, "One hour has passed."

"Say goodbye Glaceau. It's time to go to Snack." she called, ushering the little girl away from the two men.
