There is this cord that runs from your guitar, straight into the computer. I only know of one brand and it's called 'Stealth' and I was wondering if anyone here knew if there are any cheaper versions that don't cost $100 gonk

I don't think you're going to find too many if any at all that are cheap. I've been looking for one myself. But since I have no job I gave up looking.

I hate to say it, but anything in the audio world is going to cost you if you want anything close to decent quality. 100$ is a small amount to shell out for equipment. You'd pay that much for a decent guitar pedal or pickup.

if you're going to get into home recording, you're going to need to spend a lot more than 100 bucks razz

I have a audio lead that goes from 1/4' mono to 3.5mm stereo. it cost me 20GBP and is called the Griffin garageband guitar lead (if i remember correctly). got it form apple when i brought my mac. works well for my use. BUT i do have it from the DI out on my AVT 50 to a micro mixer then through the lead into my line in port.

If it's just a cable I wouldn't expect to pay more than $30 to if it's gold-plated (and yes they do gold-plate some of these things). If it does more than deliver signal you might consider paying more. But really if it's just a cable how complicated can it be?

My most expensive cable cost me $20. . . it's a stereo cable.

I've tried different cables, and with higher gauge, better insulated, better ends cables youll get a clearer sound because more of the signal can make the journey and my friend views cables like you, where he just gets cheap ones, and his cables hum when they touch the ground and pick up radio signals when you hold them up. So yes, there is some reason to buy more quality cables, if anything theyll last much longer and save you money simply on their long life.

As for one that goes to the computer. I'm not sure if he means its got a usb end or what, but it sounds like its supposed to replace a guitar-computer interface. I got my interface for less than 100$ though and it probably sounds better...

First of all, $100 sounds rediculous for a cable, but I guess I don't know pricetags. But, I'm sure it would be cheaper if you bought a standard audio cable (like headphone jacks on each side) and popped a guitar amp converter onto one side. Might want to do some research though.
