That was, or was close enough to, a tabloid headline i saw in the grocery store today. Bright yellow font that was taking up half the page, practically screaming out that not only was this man a murderer, but that he was also homosexual... Therefore linking the negativity that goes with a mass-murderer with the southern hatred towards gays in general, hoping to make the latter even stronger. I know it was just a tabloid paper, but it was just written in a way that nobody is going to walk by there in the checkout line without reading those words. And some may think, 'oh, its a tabloid, its probably a lie...' but it's going to stick with them whether they know it or not. Things like this make me sick.

Opinions? Comments? Have you seen this magazine where you live, or any like it?

there was a 17 magazine i got and the title for the 'real life' section was

"Lesbian Killers"

what a negative conotation to being a lesbian! it was all about how the girls grandparents wouldn't let her date this girl she was in love with so they killed them.
and it put just this... major emphasis on the fact that they were lesbians.

My opinion? My opinion is that people need to shut up about V-Tech. Let me just copy my note from Facebook:

"Okay, so everyone is all upset about the shooting at V-Tech, right? Well, look, I know it's a tragedy, but let me ask you something: if you were murdered, would you want people all over the nation mourning you? People you never knew? I wouldn't. What I would want would be for my friends and family to deal with it in their own, personal ways as they see fit, and for those who aren't in any way connected to me to just go on with their lives. Think about it: you're mourning someone who, if you were approached by on the street, you probably wouldn't give the time of day to. It is a tragedy, like I said, and I honestly don't mean to come off as an a**, but people? Move on. Had this event not been in national news, you wouldn't even know about it, most likely.

So please, have the common decency to give the friends family members of the deceased the respect they deserve and stop reminding them of their tragic loss every time they watch/read the news or use the internet.

And I want to emphasize once more that I do know it's horrible what happened, and isn't any small affair. I do not mean to disrespect in any way."

The only comments, so far, are in agreement.

Of course. People are worried that he's going to be lead to more discrimination against Goths a la Columbine, or that it's oging to spark racial hatred for Asians.

But no, let's pick the obvious deviancy just as people are beginning to campaign for the '08 elections. Please, the media has to find something to nitpick to get a story out of why VT happened. You expect the tbaliods to be any less outrageous?

I heard about that O_o.. It was a while ago so I forgot how I felt about that but eh..

This whole thing is just really getting old. They need to give up their s**t. We dont go around saying stuff to make heterosexuals seem horrible. (shakes head)

Well of course not, because we'd be in some big trouble for discriminating against them. But Big Brother apparently loves his double, sometimes triple, standards. *rolls eyes* Anyone up for moving to a remote island with me?

lol as long as there are some nice, yet equally beautiful chicks. xp

Oh, I saw the magazine at Walmart today. It's a magazine called Global, and it's basically like the national enquirer of all thinks political. I read some of it to and it was pure bullshit and fake. But it still made me mad.

Why? Because people will actually believe that s**t. They will sit there, read it, and not notice any of the sarcasm.

I luckily don't read the tabloids, only the BBC and the local Oakland Press. But the OP has those stereotypes sometimes and it annoys me.

Tabloids arealways saying something like that..."So and so's secret gay life".

I've just learned how to ignore it, but I'm worried that other people won't ignore it. And make biases based off that.
