I was deeply into Episode 1 and adored it LOTS. The music was done by the London Philharmonic, the graphics were stylized and simple yet amazing, the voiceover work was phenomenal.

Then came the sequels. The music stinks, the voices changed, they made Shion into a ditz/skank and they made the game SO simple. There was never any option for side quests or wandering. I couldn't make myself finish it and skipped to the third one.

The third Episode is mildly better than the 2nd. The voices were basically the same as the 2nd, with the notable exception of Shion, who sounds like she did in the first game. The battle system makes a little more sense and the break thing actually makes sense in this game. The music is still crap, but the jazzy stuff in the beginning was good. I'm still working on finishing this one, since I am in a time crunch lately because of school.

Overall, the plot is sooo over my head, it's not even funny. I'm a lit major in college and I am usually not this confused about what is going on.

I love the Xenosaga Trilogy. A lot of it's problems stemmed from the fact that it was 6 games crammed into three. It left a lot of loose ends and resolved plots open as a result. That being said, I still love the trilogy. The second was easily the worst one, but bad for Xenosaga is still pretty damn good in my opinion.

There is a 99.9% chance that the plot problem you're having is from skipping episode 2. The storyline is so linear and there's so much going on that skipping even one scene can totally confuse you. If you need help figuring things out, I suggest going to a forum to talk over the story with other players (I suggest www.xenolegacy.com - they have the nicest people I've ever seen).

I didn't have too many problems with the change in voice actors over the games. The only one that really upset me was MOMO in Episode 2. She made me want to scratch my ears out.

I don't see how Shion was made out to be a skank. At all.

P.S. I support Shion x Kevin wink

i have never played the xenosaga games before, but I have been thinking about getting into them this summer. what I really need to know is what the battle system is like. is there a lot of miniscule details you need to keep in mind? and if there are any, what other games' battle systems can you say that it is similar too??

PM is preferable, since i may forget to check here.

Wow! I am so happy to see that someone, besides me, noticed these major defects in the Xenosaga series AFTER number one! I was so UPSET with the second and the third left me doing it just because I had time on my hands. Still havn't complete number 3, but it's gotten boooooooooring! I'm so lost that I lost interest! So, don't worry, I feel for you! *throws the damn episode two against wall!* Shame on the series! Such a shame! *cry*

I have Xenosaga Episode I.

I'll probably get Espisode's II and III after I finish it, but right now I'm caught up in Final Fantasy XII and the really cool Espers. 3nodding

@DaStarBillie
Thanks for your helpful input heart I think I will check out some of the forums to try to catch myself up.
And Shion did change from I to II. For me at least, she was the intelligent book worm type who didn't at all care what she was wearing (the icky Vector uniform) and then in II, she lost a LOT of coverage. But maybe it was just me.

@Victrix Ai
The battle systems aren't very complicated and basically like an other RPG with respect to how they are used. Once you make it through the tutorial and a few battles, they're easy to use and understand. I guess the closest I can come up with for a similar game is FF. They're a little simplified than those even.

@Mateus_Imp
Glad I'm not the only one. wink

@senshi_mercury
The first one gave me chills sometimes too. 4laugh

And thanks to all for even answering on my little thread. heart
