a Fender Jagmaster would be good. Do yourself a favor, and don't get squier.

I have profound expireance with fender and squier instruments. I wont tell you to do anything, but if you want my advice, save up your money, and search pawn shops and such for the actuall fender jaguar. im not sure that there still in assembly...but the vintage is 20x better than squier.
Happy buying =)

I hate it when people put down Squier.. I really do, and Squier did a good job with the Jagmaster, I personally say go for it. After all Squier is owned by Fender thus they use the same "blueprints" on every guitar, the only difference is that Squier guitars are made in Asia.
I just suggest getting better pickups, the stock pickups on squiers aren't very good, but with the right pickups, even the Squier Jagmaster can stand on even ground with a Fender Jagmaster.
Just remember that Squiers ARE Fenders not just cheap imitations, I'd like to see anyone prove it otherwise.

Getting the "right" sound from a guitar of this type involves the original bridge and tailpiece of the Jazzmaster/Jaguar, and the original single coils (I prefer Jazzmaster because I can get better feedback) - both these features are noticeably absent in the Squier Jagmaster. You do get one of the most comfortable guitar bodies ever invented, but IMO this is small compensation for the loss of many features that make a Jazzmaster a Jazzmaster. Granted the Jagmaster has a certain aura of "I don't give a ********" but it is not taken seriously by true afficionados. Only buy it if you're going to do seriously crazy s**t to that ********: ie, install a middle pickup, coil taps, a Gibson tailpiece with a Lyre vibrola (not sure how you'd manage that but it would be hot as hell) and a custom neck with a pau d'arco fretboard (effectively replacing the headstock so nobody can tell it's a Squier anymore), oh yeah, you might as well have the thing professionally refinished.
As a Jazzmaster owner, the ultimate guitar of this type would have to be a Jazzmaster with a Fender Mustang bridge and a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity IIs.
Fender lately likes to take classic guitars, remove features, and sell them as updated versions of the original. It's a god damned tragedy.
