Harlequin smiled slightly again, and sat up straighter, "Well, that was a very kind thought, thank you for it.." He nodded, the bells on his hat, which was now settled in his lap jingling slightly. "I'm very sorry for staring, I get so easilly distracted." He nodded slightly, "I didnt mean to cause you any discomfort or embaressment." He took another small sip of his drink, "It would be very kind of you though if you wished to buy me another drink, I'll have to find some way to return the favour at some point."

His cigarette twitched slightly, as though it had been struck by the words he was clearly keeping behind his teeth as he debated what to say next. "...Suppose that would mean I needed the favor. But if you still want a drink then I'm feeling flush tonight." He noted. "So what makes you so distracted, eh?" A man who described himself the way Harlequin did seemed the sort of man who made a living by pointing out peoples flaws comicly. He couldn't help but wonder what the man had seen in him to laugh at.

"I seem to have cuased you some indignation.." Harlequin stated quietly, his fingers trailing over the glass again. "I didnt intend my offer to return the favour as a slightly, merely a courtesy.." he lifted his shoulders in a small shrug. "As it stands, you may feel free to buy me a drink of you so wish.. but please do not feel obliged.." he paused for a moment. "My distraction come from over htinking I suppose, there is somthign intriguing about you.. you look like a man might well be expected to.. but.. it is almost as if there is somthing else to you.. yet.. I find that I simply cant place what causes me to feel thins way, I'm terribly sorry if thi soffends you.."

"Ever consider that a man with something more than he's showing might wish it weren't there?" There's an edge of resentment in his voice, but not directed at Harlequin...but at himself. He looked around to flag down a waiter to demand a new drink for himself, and one for Harlequin, cigarette twitching still. "No one can help what they are, any more than you can, but just like you that don't mean we gotta like it."

"You're hiding somthing as well..?" he asked with a small smile, it was a knowing one, they were both more than people saw... but he had no idea what Bat could be hiding away within him, it certainly didnt seemto be somthin that pleased him in the slightest. "I'm not asking you to divulge any of your secrets to me mind.." He stated, looking down at his finger nails again, "Thank you for the drink, inceidently.." he wanted to say that before it slipped his mind. Itwas strange to be comfortable in the companny of somone like this man, someone who he had hardly met, and who seemed ratehr afrrontive. It was more that it was nice to be with somone for a while who wasnt outrightly judging him. It was pleasent... that was for sure. "You're right of course Bat," he stated "Life throws what it chooses at us... and there is no chance that we can change what hand we are given.. its a little like poker really.. I never was any good at poker..."

"That would seem t' be what I just implied." Bat answered, cagily, waving a waiter down and gesturing for a new drink "Though it sounds like you'd dearly like a reason to ask." A wry smile again at this, though he offered no further hints as the waiter approached, eyebrow raised faintly in polite indignation. "Poker's not so much about the cards, it's about lying your @$$ off if you ask me..." Bat chuckled softly, earning a smidge more of a horrified look from the waiter as he continued. "Whats your poison?"

Harlequin smiled slightly, "Curiosity is had to hide, it has to be said.." he stated, looking up at the waitor.. "I Fairly well agree with your sentiments on poker." He added thoughtfully, "And as you have probably guessed, then push comes to shove I am about as easy to read as a childs book.. so poker is by far not my strongest game..." he inclined his head at the offer of his choise of 'poison' "Just a soda water white wine spritzer please.." he stated, smilng lightly, "The house white will be fine.."

"Whiskey." He noted, to the still flustered waiter, before waving him off. "I do passin' well at poker, but I don't play much. Never figured it was much of a game if y' had to think about the other man's cards and the chances he'd gut stab you for your winnin's. Guess things've changed a bit since then though." He chuckled, dismissively, at the change in the game. He guessed the waiter was probably going to pick one of their cheaper whiskeys, but as long as it wasn't watered he wasn't sure he much cared. He'd probably had worse than what would pass for cheap here. "...That aint a drink, thats water that booze breathed at."
