THE LEGEND OF HELEN I reading my 'Edgar Allen Poe collecters book' the other day, and I stumbled apon a short story called "The Masque of Red Death". Well, I got into reading it, and it was very similar to the Masquerade scene in PotO. It even takes place in a masquerade!
That was probably where Gaston Leroux got his idea for Red Death. yes!!! i read that too!!! ^^ and i was like WTF?? random, and i started freaking out when i got done it.

Two references:
Jimmy Neutron episode titled "The Phantom of Retroland".
And a scene from the sitcom "Wings":
"I never wanna hear about New York again!" "...See any good shows?" "The only show I saw was a guy peeing on 42nd Street." "Is that the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical?"
...It probably is. x_X

On my "Insult a Day" calendar the one for my birthday is:
"When they refuse to play your Opera its bad, When they do, its much worse."
I laughed and kept it with me all day.

In the South Park HSM parody, the character that was suppose to be Zac Efron has a 'Phantom of the Opera' poster in his dining room. :]

OK, on Chilller they've been showing the 80's show Beauty and the Beast all day. I could say that the Beast character, Vincent, references the Phantom by leaving the tunnels of New York. But this is one better. The main villian, Parascelus, lives far beneath the tunnels and wears a metal half-mask. The best part is he's played by Tony Jay~

I just noticed this today... Lyrics to "Sleepwalker" by Nightwish. Quote: Close your eyes Feel the ocean where passion lies Silently the senses Abandon all defensesA place between sleep and awake End of innocence, unending masquerade That's where I'll wait for you Hold me near you So close I sear you Seeing, believing Dreaming, deceiving A place between sleep and awake End of innocence, unending masquerade That's where I'll wait for you Sleepwalker seducing me I dare to enter your ecstasy Lay yourself now down to sleep In my dreams you're mine to keep Sleepwalker, Sleepwalker Sleepwalker seducing me...

Okay. So.
We watched Monteverdi's Orfeo in music history class yesterday, and there was a scene where Orpheus is in the underworld, by the river Styx, and Charon, the boatman, tells him he can't cross because yadda yadda. In this scene the stage was covered with blue fog, Charon had this really creepy full face mask, and he was paddling? rowing? his boat with a long pole.
Well. You can imagine. I kept waiting for the drum machines to come in, but sadly Orpheus just sang until Charon fell asleep and then got in the boat. I know, PotO is based on Greek mythology, old news, but I still found it amusing.

I was watching Being Human on BBC America, and the werewolf and vampire characters were watching the final scene of the silent Phantom of the Opera after getting egged by their neighbors.
And Teri Polo was on Drop Dead Diva this week. xD She's a much better villainess than a heroine.

Samara_Lin Okay, this isn't exactly a reference per se, but when I went to see Sweeney Todd, during the song "A Little Priest", when Mrs. L sings "That's fop, finest in the shop" instantly made me giggle and think "Somebody's going to eat Raoul..." oh, and for Phantastic and Lazzy: Cool! (^)_^
