Are 'fu fu fu' or 'oro' even onomatopeias? I thought it was supposed to be a noun (sounds) that are pronounced like it's sounds [i.e. buzz, beep, boom... geez, they're all b's] I mean, I never heard anyone say something like "I totaly fu fu fu-ed when she fell for that joke." Things like "chu" and "doki doki" like some of you have mentioned are good representations of manga onomatopeias. Gotta love those shoujo manga.
And I always thought that Kenshin's signature 'oro' was 'ara' in a manly pronunciation. Don't take my word for it.
Fu fu fu is what I voted for, anyway. It's more closly related to the infamous 'ho ho ho' (Naga from Slayers).

Right now I'm reading Volume 1 of Whistle! and it is absolutely chockablock with sound effects. It's as if Daisuke Higuchi was paid by how many sound effects he put in.
For example, apparently the sound of offering someone a 1000-yen bill is FOOSH, and the sound of throwing sand/dirt/sandy dirt in someone's face is FFASSHHH. Most of them make more sense than those, though I did find a WOONGEE and I'm still unsure what that's supposed to mean.

Chocobosayskweh I absolutely some of the otomotopoeias (word that represents a sound) in some manga/anime. Which is your favorite? onomatopoeia, you mean? And um... no clue.
