What are the core phlosophies of your style. For example in my art ,Soo Bahk Do, we have the song of the Sip Sam Seh, ten articles of faith, and 8 key concepts each as follows,
the song of the Sip Sam Seh

Never neglect any of the Sip Sam Seh.
The source of the will is in the waist.
Pay attention to the slighest change from full to empty.
Let energy flow through the whole body contuinuously.
Stillness embodies motion, motion stillness.
Seek stilliness in motion.
Suprising things will happen when you meet your opponent.
Give awareness and pourpose to every movement.
When done correctlyall will appear effortless.
At all times pay attention to the waist.
Relaxed clear awareness of the abdomen ,the energy can be activated.
When the base of the spine is erect, energy rises to the top of the head.
The body should be flexible.
Hold the head as if suspended from a string.
Keep alert and seek the meaning and pourpose of your art.
Bent and streched, open and closed,
Let nature take its course.
Beginners are guided by oral teaching.
Gradually one applies him self more and more .
Skill will take care of itsself.
What is the main principle of the martial arts?
The mind is the primary actor and the body the secondary one.
What is the pourpose and philosophy behind the martial arts?
Rejuvenation and prolonging life beyond the normal span.
Soan aternal spring.
Every word of this song has enormous value and importance.
Falling to follow this song attentively you will sigh away your time.

ha ... philosophy ... my specialty ... here is a list of words from famous Goju practioners ... (but to understand most of those below ... you need to be well versed in Buddhist and Taoist philosophies ... )

Words of wisdom ... from Goju Ryu karate ...
taken from www.Gojuryu.net

Five Secrets of Japanese Gojuryu
By Gogen Yamaguchi
Quote:

Move quickly.
Sound, calm mind.
Be light in body.
Have a clever mind.
Master the basics.

Kempo Hakku; EIGHT POEMS OF THE FIST

Quote:

Jin shin wa ten chi ni onaji
The mind is one with Heaven and Earth.

Ketsumyaku wa nichigetsu ni nitari
The circulatory rhythm of the body is similar in rythm to the cycle of the Sun and the Moon.

Ho wa Goju wo tondo su
The way of breathing is hard and soft.

Mi wa toki ni shitagai hen ni ozu
Act in inevitable accordance with time and change.

Te wa ku ni ai sunawa chi hairu
Techniques will occur in the absence of conscious thought [a clear mind].

Shin tai wa hakarite riho su
The feet advance and retreat, separate and meet.

Me wa shiho wo miru wo yosu
The eyes do not miss even the slightest change.

Mimi wa yoku happo wo kiku
The ears listen well in all eight directions.

Precepts of Okinawan Gojuryu
By Chojun Miyagi

Quote:
It should be known that secret principals of Gojuryu exist in the Kata.

Gojuryu Karatedo is a manifestation within one's own self of the harmonious accord of the universe

The way of Gojuryu Karatedo is to seek the way of virtue

The Four Tenets of Zen

Quote:

1. Life is pain.
2. One must still the cravings for life, which is fed by perceptions and feelings.
3. The cessation of pain, resulting from the cessation of cravings, brings man into Nirvana, and to end the cycle of rebirth.
4. To achieve Nirvana follow the Eightfold Way:

Right views;

Right intention;

Right speech;

Right action;

Right livelihood;

Right effort;

Right mindfulness;

Right concentration.

Note: this is more of a Buddhist philosophy than a karate one ... which briefly explains the 4 Noble Truths and the 8 Fold Path ... see this link to learn more ...

Words of reverence
by Gogen Yamaguchi

Quote:
Karate requires you to make a strenuous effort Night and day, before you achieve understanding.

Strong Spirit and Will Power, so that we can overcome our own interests.
It is very important to exercise every day, not to be come bored, not to give into anguish

Essentially the purpose of Karatedo was to protect ourselves, but now through Karatedo we are not only training our bodies, but our minds. Therefore, The Way is not to attack another, but to restrain yourself; we should not do harm to others.
Accordingly, your emphasis should not be on skills, but on training your mind. If you are impatient, you can not expect improvement in your skill

The major teachings of Karatedo are to achieve confidence in yourself, to be polite, maintain peace and tranquility of mind.

You should pay tribute to your parents, ancestors and master. You should also be in harmony with your friends.

You must keep them in mind and not become arrogant and over- confidant.
It is extremely important to keep and show reverence to your master, otherwise, even if you are great at Karate, you will follow the path of extreme, your desire for understanding can never be attained.

If you stop learning Karate, spontaneously you are forced to do that.

You have to know it is a long way to polish your skill, train your spirit and keep tranquility of mind; to get rid of our own interests and do what is the right thing.
After you become aware of these, you will know the greatness of Gods.

For you to achieve this you must discard your own interest and then you will understand The Way.

From what I've read so far and what my instructor teaches of Bujinkan Ninpo Taijutsu (by example), it's merely to truly become a human being who upholds justice. That's really the gist of it. xp

That's what we say for our black belt creed.

Student Creed:

1. I intend to develop myself in a postive manner and never do anything that would reduce my mental health or my physical state.

2. I intend to respect my elder and abide by the black belt creed. (this is out of order)

and I don't remember the others...

My Philosophy ... hmmm ...

Quote:

1. The Truth is Long Pants.
2. People are stupid.
3. Peacefulness doesn't mean going around killing stuff.
4. Slacking is bad.
5. Logicians and philosophers don't play with stones ... unless they have nothing better to do.

Well, that is the gist of it. mrgreen

And as an addition to point 2 ... People who claim that something isn't cause by stupidity ... is stupidier than the usual idiot.

Just to add ...

1. The Truth is Long Pants.
2. People are stupid.
3. Peacefulness doesn't mean going around killing stuff.
4. Slacking is bad.
5. Logicians and philosophers don't play with stones ... unless they have nothing better to do.
6. Don't go up to the mountains, into a cave and train under a kind and friendly looking bearded old man ... when you come down, you would think 'Peacefulness' is the art of killing stuff and locking young girls into small dark rooms.
7. Education isn't a false religion (if it is a religion), science isn't Witchdoctor magic (but yup, Science is magic) and the earth isn't flat ...

Well, I just added point 6 after reading something stupid ... (a follow up on point 3)
Anyway, if you are a girl ... try to dress up as a guy before you go up the mountain, in case the old man is a 'super pervert master' ... (the same for guys dressed as girls ...)

Well, if nothing bad happens ... maybe you can fly around and use chi blasts if you succeed in learning something from that old bearded guy ...

For point 7 ... refer to point 2 ...

Style: Xinyiquan
Philosophy: based in Taoist beliefs, xinyi's 5 basic movements are meant to represent the 5 taoist elements: wood, water, fire, metal, and earth; the corresponding movements are: Pi (splitting-metal), Zuan (Drilling-water), Beng (crushing-wood), Heng (sideways shear-earth), Pao (pounding-fire).
Following the 5 basic movements, there are the 12 animal forms, meaning one uses attacks resembling those of each animal respectively. The Taoist philosophy is that one should not only reflect the animals movements, but their consciousness-their being-their "personality"
