l think since people are ninjas they dont need cars or other tecnologies but they do have walki talkis so l understand your confusion

nintendonerd First Question, what year?
The year in Naruto is current days. They have all of the same utilities but no cars or guns. [To quote Kishi]
Kakashi wears a mask to add mystery to his persona, that and he's a ninja. lol if i where in naruo i would use a gun but i know why they dont use guns "reload" !!!

It's a semi traditional era, just for the purpose that ninja no longer exist that much now, and it's semi modern, so we can relate somewhat. Kakashi wears the mask because of his eye more than likely, which has that scar from the other eye that he received. heart ninja

Seriously, I don't care. Yet, I do respect his privacy.
No, he wore his mask even before he lost his left eye and got the scar. Although, everyone who has seen him without his mask ends up dead, maybe thats a reason. (( Only one person is still alive D: ))

Oniwolf_Anbu_Binx I LOVE Naruto- it's the best anime ever! I haven't known it that long but ever since I've gotten into it, it has become my all time favorite anime, with characters that have become my absolute favs- like Kakashi for example. Whut I'm trying to figure out is whut era of history are they in. I mean, they have T.V.s but they don't have cars? I'm really confused...But then I haven't known the series for that long. I've seen only the last part of Chunnin exams and the most recent episodes I've seen has been on Toonami. From whut I can tell, they're still in horse and buggy era or just after feudal age? So I guess I'm trying to say is that...Whut year is it in Naruto? And one more thing, Does anyone know WHY kakashi wears his mask? That's a tough question.... It seems like they're modern in almost everything except war and politics. They have radios, but they also use messanger birds and people. No guns, feudal lords.

I have a Theory that Kakashi wears his mask, because his Kuchiyose no jutsu are dogs. He has Superior Sense of Smell, so for a normal human being that is too overwhelming.
He wears 2 masks, but i still like him that way! That ichiraku Ramen grl was blushing after she saw him...hmm....makes me wonder!
