So I understand about the whole "scottish play" and the turning around three times and spitting..but what I dont understand is why its bad????? Who came up with the whole myth of cursing your productions by saying the name?? Has anyone else ever wondered where it all started.? Mr. Shakespeare please enlighten me.. biggrin

I asked this question too, and each time I get a different answer. Some things I've heard are that it has to do with the three witches, or because it has so many dangerous stunts, or that theatres will put it on when their play does badly or they are going bankrupt.

I'm not sure why it's bad luck to say the name, but I know for a fact it is.
A few years ago during my community theatre's production of Once Upon A Mattress my brother and his friend Matt were messing around and said it 3 times. That same day our Princess Fred passed out from dehydration and smacked her head on a water pipe in the bathroom (she was fine, by the way, just got a huge bump on her head), there was a HUGE rain storm and the lower floor of the theatre flooded and them some guy ran his car into the pediatric center next door to the theatre (no one was hurt though, but we were all freaking out, thinking that one of the younger kids got outside to play in the rain).
