Ok, so this was Coltrane's debut as a Free Jazz player? I was at Best Buy the other day, and considered buying it. But remember I'm saving for that tenor, still... Anyway. It's two tracks, both about 40 minutes, two different takes on the same song, I guess. Both entitled Ascension. Anyway, how does this work. He just goes Cadenza? You guys already mentioned Free Jazz, but I'm still lost on that ^ ^
Also, the cover had him sitting down, holding a soprano I think. He plays soprano for that?

Hm, that's really strange. I'll have to look 'em up/download/buy 'em sometime. Sounds really interesting. I like the name, too. wink

Back said that this was one of the most controversial jazz songs ever. And that you either hate it or love it. Never in between.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's hiding in a pile of records somewhere. Sounds neat though I'll have to check out. However, if it's a love hate thing, I might wanna hear it before I dish out the dough...

Right, I just heard a portion of the first one (on singingfish.com); wow. That's really all I can say. Very unusual. I didn't care for it much at all, but it was certainly interesting.

I own the album, both versions of it. It's quite an amazing set of tracks. They get a little bit over intense but that's okay I suppose. Actually, I recently met one of the people who played on it, a man by the name of John Tchkai. THAT was interesting.

There is no too unusual with jazz though.
