I read Maskerade a while back. It's a good book; very humorous. Even if read out of the Discworld series, you can still gather who the characters are and get a decent view of the world.

Read it, own it, love it. I found myself chuckling all throughout the book, espicially when the chandelier was mentioned.

I just finished Les Miserables, and am currently on a high of that book. It's great writing, vivid characters, and (the best part) has a musical made out of it! (Note, book's the best, but if you don't want to read about 1,600 pages, watch the musical. The Liam Neeson movie is alright for the first half, but for the second half not faithful to the book at all.)

And I've never read Leroux or Kay's book, just because I can never find them any-fricken-where.

SPOILER: Jean Valjean didn't die in the Liam Neeson movie. That pissed me off.
