how does one go about getting your friends to understyand you don't want a knickname?

well, it depends on the situation. If you have a name that demands a nickname, (like Samantha to Sam) Then it will be impossible to get around. However, if they are just calling you weird stuff, heres how to get around it.
Don't respond to it. If they call a nickname to get your attention, ignore it until they call your real name. When in conversation, do the same thing, and when they all look to you to respond, say something like "Oh! I'm sorry! were you talking about ME?"
It may take awhile, but they will stop.

Or you could make up your own nickname and insist everyone call you by it. 3nodding

Alright I've had this happen to me. It's quite a simple solution. Either you make up a nickname for the person who made a nickname for you. Or, depending on the nickname, you go along with it for a while. Your friends might get tired of it, and just call you by your normal name. I've had that happen to me. Also, you could fake "Being PO'd". If you do that, they might think that you really don't like it. The only way to really make people do things is to get pissed off. ^_^
