I believe that polygamy is generally a sinful act. >_> Not only are you cheating on your spouse(s) but you are also cheating upon God.

I don't mean to offend anybody who believes in polygamy, but as a female, come on! How special do I feel if my husband has other wives?! What makes it different from having an affair besides the knowledge of it? I truly don't mean to offend anybody, but that's just my opinion.

I doubt you'll offend anybody after what has been said by some. I agree with you though, I wouldn't feel special. Of course, it takes a very different person to practice polygamy and that is fine. It just isn't for us. But that's fine, because polygamists probably wouldn't want to marry me anyway! xp

It's just one of the misconceptions about polygamy. biggrin It's not about one man and lots of women. It's not about sex, it's not about marriage. It's about relationships between several people. Now, I'm not married to either of my girls officially, but I do have plans to marry 'em both. It's not as though they're both sharing me, since it's not a split of time at all. It's more that we enjoy each other's company, and "share" each other. Of course, my main rule is that if anyone wants to bring a newcomer into the relationship, all parties have to meet and then agree. So if anyone has any problems, they're worked out one way or another. And mind you, just because we're polygamists doesn't mean we don't have issues with jealousy. We deal with it just like any monogamous relationship does.

if its a polygamous relationship, then what if another guy was brought into the relationship? It could be one girl and two guys for example!
Still.. I dont think many straight guys would go for that.. I'm not entirely sure many girls would go for it either..
To be honest, Dis is the only polygamist I've ever spoken to, even if it is on an online message board.
He represents his beliefs well I might add.

It could be one girl and two guys for example! Still.. I dont think many straight guys would go for that.. I'm not entirely sure many girls would go for it either.. To be honest, Dis is the only polygamist I've ever spoken to, even if it is on an online message board. He represents his beliefs well I might add. Two men and one woman is a common form of polygamy all over the world. It's noted to have existed (and still exist) throughout South America, Africa, and Tibet. For myself, I wouldn't mind a guy in the relationship. But, I haven't found a guy who fits in a relationship with myself and my two girls. And thanks. Good to know I'm not giving other polygamists a bad image (there are some more here on Gaia, including an ED-P reg named Reverend Smooth).

Agreed; thank you for telling me. I've met one polygamist before, but I don't know if that really counts, as he actually was a clinically insane person and was Mormon, where I think polygamy is allowed. I'm not sure, so please don't be offended if I have it wrong- I very well might. So I'll just count you as the first. blaugh

Then again, America has a nasty image of polygamists being child molesters and cultists.

There's a reason for that.
Thank fundamentalist Mormonism. It's different than traditional Mormonism, where polygamy was banned. But personally, Mormonism is a little on the cultish side. Especially the fundamentalists. Not that I think Mormons are bad people, I just think their beliefs are a tad extreme, because they believe you have to have at least 3 wives to get into heaven.
I'd like to thank the July issue of Glamour magazine for that information.
