At this very moment Tristan was pretty sure he hated Dmitri, the two had only been living together for a little while but that didn't stop Tristan from wanting to hit him. Today it was something simply, mainly that he had gotten up early that morning to go into work and had worked a long busy day while Dmitri was at home with a day off. He had been asleep when Tristan left and could very likely still be in bed.

Tristan dragged himself up the stairs all the while cursing the fact that he was four stories up... who lives up four flights of stairs? Stupid stairs. All he wanted was to crash on the couch and fall asleep.

However when he got to the his door he noticed a note attached to it. So help him if Dmitri had somehow got him evicted he was going to kill the stupid bugger. Fortunatly it was nothing bad instead a note from Dacian telling him to go to the lab.

With a bit of a sigh and a vauge idea of where he was going Tristan tossed some of his stuff in the apartment and headed off, still for the most part in his work uniform and a coat.

Dacian leapt up from his place on the railing, as he spotted Tristan coming down the path; finally! Not that he'd been waiting long, actually - only about half an hour. And it was nice enough that he didn't mind.

"Oh! Fluctuations have started - I think your kid's going to be born soon!"

The Soul hadn't been yet, of course - his little watch with the funky dials (that nobody else really understood, except maybe Hadrian...and he wasn't about to bother Hadrian with anything lately) kept him informed of that.

Pushing aside those distracting thoughts, he just grinned at Tristan, rocking on his heels.

It took a while for what dacian had said to fully sink in, He was tired and for a moment he just blinked until a light bulb wnt off in the back of his head and suddenly he had a lot more energy.

"Really? My kid?" he said with a grin on his own and on the verge of jumping up and down.

As of that moment, that day didn't totally suck for Tristan, in fact it was one of the best he had in a while. Sure most of it was crapy but just the kid... he was giddy, almost on the school girl level.

Dacian reached out and grabbed Tristan's arm then, hurrying into the labs and down the stairs; he was too eager to want to wait for the other man to follow him.

Swiftly, they went through the labs, and reached the room where Holden floated - and already it was pulsating. It was a good thing they had gotten there when they did, for a moment later, the pulsing began to become erratic.

Energy sparked out of it, and the entire orb seemed to be alternating between trying to burst from itself, and implode upon itself. Then it all receded.

And with a flash of blinding light, it was gone.

And Holden was there.

Tristan followed/was pulled along, just as eager. Oh how he had waited for this day for so long. Waiting and wondering if it would be a girl or a boy and all sorts of stupid things like that. His stomach was twisting because with excitement went nervousness. Now was the time his brain decided to tell him he would make a horrible parent, right before it was impossible to back out.

Then they came to the room that held the floating blob that was to be his son in a few moments and all the random thoughts in his brain cleared, his head was blank. It was his first time seeing Holden and it had left him speechless. He had wondered what this would all be like and now he couldn't even think.

He turned away when there was the bright flash and when he looked back there was his son. He opened his mout to say something, or just do something in general but he found he couldn't,just sort of stared at the little boy.

And Holded stared back at least for a moment but he was quickly distracted by everything else around him, all new and different and what not.

Dacian smiled at Holden, amusement creeping onto his face at how the boy got distracted by the myriad of things in the room. Then he shifted his gaze to Tristan, to see how the man was reacting. Hmm...well, at least it seemed favorable.

Some of the guardians had been a little more shocked, and bit less happy.

"So...what will you call him?"

Although whether or not Tristan could even speak yet was debateable; the man seemed in awe.

The ability of speech returned to Tristan. "I'm not sure really..." he felt rather dumb, he had all this time to think about names but could he come up with any now? No. "I was thnking something literary but I..."

He bent down to look at the little boy who turn large, masked eyes to Tristan and blinked a few times. Tristan smiled at the little boy. "I think... Holden," it was mainly because he had recently started reading Catcher in the Rye and maybe later when he was thinking straight and had actually read the rest of the book.

"He has a tail..."

"Ah, yes...normally Hadrian does this part, but he's busy, so I'll take care of it."

Stepping over to one of the screens for a moment, he tapped several things before, reaching down and opening a cabinet. Dacian took something strange looking from it - it looked like a little reader of some sort, with a little p***k on the end.

"This will p***k him slightly, but it won't really hurt that much."

They'd recently improved upon their reader, so it was a bit more high-tech now...before, it was slightly more primitive.

Stepping over to Holden, the mage placed it over the boys hand; it pricked the skin, and then the words sending appeared on the little screen. A moment later, Dacian had stepped back over the screen, apparently waiting for something to pop up.

"Holden's a good name...it seems to suit him."

Holden jumped a little and let out a bit of a squeak when he was pricked. He had once again been distracted by everything else in the room and hadn't seen it coming.

"You think?" Tristan asked, it was good to know he hadn't picked something horrible.

He decided now would be a good time to actually get a better look at his son. he went over to the little boy and picked him up very carefully. He wasn't ever any good with kids, but he was going to have to learn quickly now.

Humming some cheerfully little ditty, Dacian tapped the screen as he waited for results. And when the results popped up, he grinned over at Holden and Tristan.

"Lucky - he's an animal blend. Sometimes you can't tell what the blend it, because this can only tell a component of it...after all, it might be something made out of wood, but we couldn't tell you what it was."

Eyeing Holden for a moment, he decided that he could see it.

"Holden here, is blended with a raccoon."

Tristan beemed. An animal, and a boy, this kid was turning out to be perfect! He could see the raccoon too, what with the stripped tail and mask and him being a doctor in the field of mammals. But he was till pretty elated and not thinking properly.

"So he is all... healthy and stuff," he asked as he looked at the boy in his arms.

"He seems to be..."

Dacian grinned at Tristan, and shrugged, "If there are any problems, just bring him back here, and Hadrian'll take a look at him."

Their theory was that if there wasn't an obvious problem, then it wasn't too big of a deal. If the kid started having problems later, Hadrian could figure it out; there'd only been one kid who had problems at birth, after all.

Perhaps it wasn't the best arrangement in the world, but it hadn't caused any problems yet.

"Thanks... thank a bunch," Tristan was talking about everything in general. The apartment and now his kid. It had helped him a lot. He had been so close to going back to drinking before, but things have been better since moving here. Sure he had started smoking again but it was much better than his drinking habits.

"Is there anything else?"

Holden meanwhile was squirming in Tristan's arms. After looking the man over and realizing he had nothing of any interest on him the boy wanted to get away. He never got to see the other stuff in the room and he was sure they were far more interesting than this guy.

"Your welcome!"

Dacian shook his head, smiling at Tristan and the little boy. He thought he had covered everything; and if not, it wasn't like it would be too difficult to get a hold of him.

"No, I think that's everything. Have fun, hmm?"

"Thanks," Tristan said again, smiling down at his new boy. He paused for a moment, not sure if he had said everything. Once he had made sure he asked it all, or got to embarassed to stand there longer (he wasn't sure which came first).

"I guess I'll see you around then," he said before finally turning and leaving.
