Foetus In Fetu SaberFireTiger The drama thing was one of the reasons a lot of people disliked Superman Returns, not enough action. I liked it but if watch it my dad leaves the room to find something more interesting cause he hates that stuff. But I don't want a lot of stupid action either, like Casino Royale. Worst James Bond movie ever. I haven't actually seen Casino Royale (or that many Bond movies). I should have my British citizenship revoked. neutral The drama wasn't what I disliked about Superman Returns, or even really Smallville. It's the way the drama's executed that irks. In Superman Returns, Richard came off looking better than Clark and Lois did. Not because of the "almost kiss" (I mean, come on), but because Clark left Lois without saying goodbye when he supposedly loved her, which it seems fair to assume Richard wouldn't do, and because there's all this ambiguity about what Lois did and didn't know, and what she did and didn't tell Richard about Jason's paternity. I think the real problem is that Lex's EV0L SCH3M3™ was just boring. I had to fast-forward most of the Lex scenes when I watched it again, which is depressing because I think Lex Luthor is a great villain and Kevin Spacey is a great actor. SaberFireTiger Thing is, I don't watch Smallville for the reason I wanted to back then. Now I watch for the drama and episodes like Justice which I would have loved years back kinda bored me now. I don't think the premise of Justice - superheroes get together for action-packed episode - was boring, although I don't usually like superhero team-ups. I think the writing was just weak and the whole thing again was poorly executed. That's why I didn't really like it. Really cheesy villan if you watch the first superman movie.

zach61092 Really cheesy villan if you watch the first superman movie. Uh, yeah. I have to say, I do think Kevin Spacey's interpretation was a step-up from Gene Hackman's.

Gene Hackman's was a NIGHTMARE. I actually found Spacey's performance entertaining. Clark did love Lois and the only reason he left without saying goodbye was because as he said, it was too hard. Plus if you read the superman Returns book, when he left he wasn't sure if he was ever going to come back to earth again if there were people living on Krypton. So, he thought that by just leaving without saying goodbye would help her to move on a bit easier then if he were to make an extreme exit...and he didn't want her to talk him out of leaving to go see his home planet.

`Chloe Sullivan` Clark did love Lois and the only reason he left without saying goodbye was because as he said, it was too hard. Yeah, but it was still stupid. Whether it was hard or not, she deserved a goodbye; even he acknowledges that (which cancels out the stupidity to an extent - it is a story of redemption, after all). `Chloe Sullivan` Plus if you read the superman Returns book, when he left he wasn't sure if he was ever going to come back to earth again if there were people living on Krypton. So, he thought that by just leaving without saying goodbye would help her to move on a bit easier then if he were to make an extreme exit...and he didn't want her to talk him out of leaving to go see his home planet. I don't think the book is movie canon, though. Most movie novelisations are AU, especially since they're often based on drafts of the script that have changed by the time the film is shot and cut together.

Regardless the Book Still covers a lot of detail left out in the Movie that can somewhat clear up speculation trailed in the movie. It goes more in depth about his Trip and how he got sucked in, how it was Lex that payed the newspaper to say that, etc.

True, but if they're important in terms of plot, character development or just not making your characters look bad, they should have been introduced in the movie proper.

They ARE in the movie but they are discreet. It was hard to tell what they were talking about UNTIL i read the book and it made a lot more sense.

There was no mention of Lex Luthor organising the Krypton fakeup whatsoever.

ACtually yeah, they DO mention it in the scene where Clark is getting beaten up by all of his Cronies. But the only time I caught that was after i read the book. You catch a LOT more that you didn't realize with the book.

x_MEGALO_x Why do people hate superman returns so much? I mean, I liked it. Cause people overanalyze things. It is just something we do because we are really into it I guess. Other people think it sucked because it was too long and nothing happened.

I don't hate it, I just wasn't a big fan of Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and the way they characterised the relationship between Clark and Lois. But I actually think the writing was on the whole a lot stronger than Smallville's generally is, for instance. `Chloe Sullivan` It's alright Megalo, I personally think it could have turned out worse lol, it so nearly was as well.

I really liked it though. I can't say i liked it in the terms that i was a continuum of the original Superman Movies, which really in terms of honest-to-goodness Superman mythology was total CRAP, but I think that they did Superman some justice on the visual front. Also they went into more depth about his powers, etc.
