Hello, and welcome to the herdlands of the mighty Katilenuck. We are composed of only the purest of Jala, and are directly linked to the beautiful and perfect goddess Jala herself. Do not think, should you be a crossbreed, or even another breed, of showing your face in these lands. Your safety is not guaranteed...
Note: Please do not post in here, as this is merely an info thread. Thank you!

((OOC: Thank you very much for the map, Lost! <3))A long line of mountains take up a good portion of our grounds, as well as plateaus and hidden plains. Beside the cliffs is where any royal or high official can be found. Below the cliff is thick forest, forbidden unless you are a doctor or a soldier, and have been given permission. It is very dangerous and many innocents have disappeared without a word. Caves line the cliff face, sleeping quarters for single soldiers, military leaders, and, closest to the thick tree line, slaves, though many slaves are kept by their owners instead of in the designated slave quarters. The Royal family sleeps wherever they please, typically in the highest places, with several caves adorned by Zrun furs, human-made tapestries, and an assortment of other interesting creations given to the herd leaders as gifts from the two-leggeds.
You may also find two rivers that convene in a small lake in the middle of the herd lands. The rivers, as well as a decent amount of rain, ensure we are never without food or water, even in the scorching summers. Snow in winter also keeps the rivers and lake full to the brim. Surrounding the lake and rivers is a thick arrangement of rich grass, kept fresh and growing all year due to the constant presence of water.
There are also a number of tree groves, some regular trees while others bear fruit, scattered throughout the vast herd lands. Several of these groves form miniature or small forests, only large enough to house a spring or pose as a small home for a Jala or two. Plains, covered in grass, sit nestled in between mountains, hidden from sight unless viewed from above or if you know where the special pathways are to get there.

- Legends - Long ago, long before any Jala now living was born, back before their parents or grandparents were even conceived, the gods and goddesses lived and ruled over the lands. One of these goddesses was the beautiful Jala, of feathered wings and flying skills unmatched. The other goddess, the cruel and jealous dark deity, Reya, attacked poor Jala upon the former's return to Urin. Reya murdered the beautiful Jala, legends say, and the blood spilled from her dying body touched the outer shells of seven separate fruits: These fruits were the creatures made in her image, given her namesake; the Jala breed of Nequus, with feathered wings and the best flying skills of any breed.
It is said that these seven Jala are the direct descendants of the goddess Jala herself. These seven special Nequus were permanently scarred, bearing the symbols of their goddess's distress - tears that rain from the eyes, and coats that are emblazoned with the running of blood. These special Jala, bearing tear-marks and brindled coats, took these god-given symbols as a sign from the gods above, especially from their goddess Jala, that they were to form a herd on the Fire Mountains - Fyhi tel Oren. It was there they founded the herd of the Katilenuck.
- The Religion - The Katilenuck are a matriarchal society. The mares are held higher in the eyes of the herd than stallions, which is reminiscent of their love of the goddess Jala, who, they believe, told the original seven that the females of the Katilenuck should ultimately lead the herd.
They believe in the purity of the blood. The only true Nequus are those of feathered wings, made in the image of their beloved goddess. Non-herd Jala, although not of the mighty Katilenuck, are still made in dear Jala's image, and therefore should be treated with respect, though not necessarily as much as a herdmember. Reya is to be cursed for her crude ways and she wishes to make Jala's path turned from what is good. Therefore, to punish Reya and ensure the goddess's deeds in the past are not repeated, all those made in her image are to be immediately killed. Reya crossbreeds share the same fate.
The remaining three breeds, Bae, Aeri, and Ichsa, are allowed to live as long as they do not interfere with the ways of the Jala. Whenever possible, the foals of the breeds are captured and sold as slaves. Typically this happens in time of battle, when a rogue herd of the breeds settles itself in Katilenuck lands. If they refuse to leave, they will be destroyed and run out, with as many foals as possible kept as slaves. The Ichsa in particular are sought after by certain herdmembers, as they are considered prettier than the Bae or Aeri, and are sometimes called 'exotic.'
Familiars, such as the Shrila and Rit, are usually considered servants, though sometimes pets (on certain occasions). They aren't entitled to the rights of the Katilenuck, but they certainly are not on the same level as slaves. Shrila are especially helpful due to their feathered wings which enable them to fly quite well, and their small stature aids them further, as they can execute swift turns in the air. The Katilenuck have found one of the best uses for these creatures: To relay messages from Tacticians to the battlefield, or to deliver any other long-distance messages, as none of the other breeds suspect these creatures of being in league with the brindled race.
Humans are viewed with disgust, and only the holy blessed are allowed to visit. Though, at times, a select portion of the herd visit Ryuten for an assortment of things. Sometimes decorations for their person or cave, for special and rare fruits, or to have their manes and tails brushed through to be rid of tangles. The two-legs also have a good knowledge of how to heal certain sicknesses in Nequus, and they are quite a great deal of help at times because of their hands with opposable thumbs.
- Practices - The Queen holds all the power, and (almost) all decisions must go through her before they are acted upon. Simple decisions such as slave breedings and when teachers should educate the young, etc., do not need to go through the Queen.
The Patriarch, or 'king' as some others know it, holds little power. He is merely the mate of the Queen (except in certain cases, such as when the only heir to the current leader is male; therefore, the Patriarch will hold all of the power, though this rarely ever happens) and usually leads the military. Again, here, all decisions regarding the military must go through her.
Katilenuck rule the skies, making a masterful art in that of battle. The females are trained in leadership and military strategy - they are the stronghold and wit of the community. As a matriarchal society, mares are destined to lead. Only the females of the herd can attain special ranks, the most noted being Tactician. The stallions fight the wars as soldiers, keeping their male bloodlines strong. They are often the travelers and makers of legend, destined to lie, some say.
One interesting little tidbit that could go into both of these last two secions is the fate of those Jala who sport just the brindled pattern, just tear-marks, or neither. Sometimes there are certain Jala who are born to teared and brindled parents, who do not sport one (or both) of these traits. These unfortunate beings that, while not exactly punished for their lack of such markings, have no hope of ever becoming Queen or Patriarch. The reason for this is because the tear marks and brindled pattern are both considered a gift to the Katilenuck from their beloved goddess Jala. If a Katilenuck is born without such markings, it is thought that they do not have the favor of their goddess, and as such their parents are questioned about their child's lack of markings.
Despite this, any Jala; teared, brindled or not; can hold any other position in the herd. This includes non-herd Jala, but they must be accepted by the Queen before they may join the herd.

To be in this herd, there are several factors to be considered. First off, you must be pure of blood, though in special cases you may not be, to be allowed to live and not used as a slave. The majority, however, are either killed or enslaved. For those of you able to get into this herd, there are a few positions you may be assigned. Perhaps, if you are not happy, and you have a good reason why, they might get changed upon request, but don't expect it without a valid reason.
- Typical Positons (Common) -
Citizen - A regular member of the herd. They have no strong responsibilities, but they are also more susceptible to be asked to do some hard work for the herd, such as being drafted into a soldier position should there be too few. Servant - A select few herd members, not below any other citizen, decide one way or another, that they will faithfully serve a specific other herd member, such as one with a higher rank in the herd. They are usually just classified as citizens. Slave trader - There are only a small hoof-ful of slave traders at a time, to reduce competition. These Jala collect, breed, and sell slaves. Usually foals, but on occasion an adult will be available. They are considered low-level merchants. Soldier - The name says it all. They are to fight for the herd, and die for it as well if need be. Some may be lucky enough to be picked for a special mission to far-off areas in Urin, on a type of seek-and-destroy mission at times, but otherwise they are basically there to follow their leaders and fight to the death. Teacher -In this position they are, by duty, the educators and teachers of the younger generations. They teach the foals how to be a good member of the herd, the pride of our herd, who we are, and our history, as well as military knowledge basic to everyone. A select few teachers specialize in a certain type of knowledge - such as teaching others how to become a doctor, or a tactician, though the aspiring youngsters could just as easily become the apprentice to one of these members. Tactition - This position is reserved only for the mares of the herd, as the females are the more calculating and logical of the two genders, and many have a special knack for formulating plans. On very, very rare occasions, a stallion or two may prove their worth by their battle experiences, and could become a tactician. Doctor - Few, but not too few. As a doctor, they must be able to know ways to cure illnesses, not by magic but by other means. Herbs, nature, and how to heal injuries and sicknesses must be your specialty. A nice personality is always a plus.
- Royal Positions (Rare) - Only a few hold these titles and they are, of course, the Royals, listed above.
Queen - As Queen, one rules over the land, of course. She must have tabs on everything, must know what is going on, and over all must have the favor of the majority of the herd. A revolt is not needed when the Reya might be around any corner. Patriarch - As the Queen rules, the Patriarch is often the leader of the military. He must be strong willed, tough, and commanding. Kindness can be a plus as well, though it's unlikely. The mate of the Queen, it is usually for alliances rather than love. Royal Adviser - As the name says, this important position is not to be taken lightly. They should have a vast knowledge of the goings-on of the herd and the borders, and should be able to suggest ideas and things to the Queen for the betterment of the herd. Heiress - Next in line to rule the herd as Queen. Heir - Next in line to rule the herd as Patriarch, as dictated by the Queen or unless there is no Heiress. Princess - Any filly born to the Queen who will not one day rule the herd, though could if something happens to the current Heiress. Prince - Any male born to the Queen.
Even rarer than these last few positions are the magic-holders. They must show their magic abilities to the Royals for confirmation before they can acquire one of the rarer titles, such as Illusionist, etc.

When you enter our herd, there are some faces you may want to have memorized. These are the most important Jala of this herd. Later you will see the current members so as to allow you to see everyone, or at least most everyone. Queen Savit'Taren (BlackFireKitsune) Savit is very courteous to all members of her herd. She respects every member of the herd, especially the teachers and tactitions, and doesn't believe in looking down upon them just because their ranks may be lower. She is very patient, especially with her children, who she loves dearly. She trusts them completely, as well as a certain few other herd members. It isn't hard to befriend her, for herd members that is. She's weary of non-herd members, but she shows them respect and will be polite to them. However, if angered, she has an entire army under her command, so it would be very unwise to anger her or her family.
Patriarch Mavasu (pippi188 cool Mavasu isn't the nicest nequus you could ever come across. He sees everyone as lowered rank and will treat them as such. He treats them as a king would treat his peasants and slaves. The only one that he'll ever show any kindness to is Savit'Taren for the kindness she had shown him. Slave: Aeri-Rowan (BlackFireKitsune), gained during the Slave Sale
Heiress Yi (Lita Rutherford) Yi is not one to listen to anyone. She likes to walk among the commoners, hear them. However do not take her for a Reya loving girl. She is proud of her breed and her herd. She loves her subjects and her family, no matter how much she will curse her mother or taunt her brother. She belives in the belief of all her herd members. They, the Jala, are above most the number one breed. She is compassionate and kind when she feels like it, hard and quick to temper other times. Her heart and soul is to one day run the herd for which she has grown up in. It is all she lives for. Slave: Ichsa-Irada (Lita Rutherford), gained during the Slave Sale
Prince Ka (Lorenzo de Masearro) Morbidly distraught over his current situation, and finding it difficult to keep himself in check most of the time, Ka has taken to a ruthless lifestyle. Constantly his bounds are being crossed and redrawn in a poor deviation of the previous, as he pushes them further back with the breaking of his youthful morals; no longer holding the innoncence of a royal childhood. Despite the ill-will he holds against Yi, and most accordingly Mavasu, he does not wish grief towards his mother. In fact, he sees her as the only means of sanity trough this mess, and the only reason he hasn't come undone on his two marks... as of yet.
Illusionist Mordre (DareDelvil) Sustained by his magic long past his natural lifespan, Mordre may not be the most intellectual of Nequus - or the quickest on the uptake - but he is nonetheless shrewd and worldly-wise. He serves Queen Savit'Taren with an unusual degree of loyalty, and sets an equally unusual amount of store by truth. Disliking the cheating, backstabbing "politics" of the Katilenuck herd, he conducts himself in a dignified and moral manner, partially in the hope that others will follow his example. Servant: Mordrecai (DareDelvil)
Royal Adviser Xla'lanan (Kaelyndra) Xla'Lanan isn't what you call the typical Katilenuk. He's hardly a fighter, fumbles about with his words. The only resource he seems to have is pure dumb luck. However, he has an outrageous prejudice, as most of the herd does, and he's not afraid to stick his slightly snobby nose out there and put people in their place. He's well muscled, obviously a runner, and beautiful by Katilenuk standards, but horribly ill placed in persona. If all else fails, he's often tempted to run to royalty to take care of the ails he's created. Slave: Aeri-Enji (Throwing Toasters), gained during the Slave Sale
Princess Lucina (BlackFireKitsune) This small mare relies mostly on her luck, adaptibility, and common sense to get her through tough situations. She loves to explore the lands she lives in, and she also loves her whole family dearly. She doesn't quite know what to make of her 'father' though, and instead likes to spend time with her real father, Mordre. She also loves foals, and enjoys weaving stories to tell them and playing games with them as well.
Princess Rhapsody (Princess Feif) Info to come
Prince Aeolus (TawnyAngel) Aeolus is a proud Nequus, but more than this he is stubborn and unflinching in his beliefs. The well-being of his herd is foremost in his mind; its safety, its ideals, its purity. He knows that he and his tree-siblings have some of the best blood in the herd and it rankles with him somewhat that it will be the daughter of Mavasu next on the throne rather than one of his own father’s get. Nevertheless, he recognises that the herd cannot know of them and he would sacrifice anything to keep his Queen-to-be from harm, even though he doesn’t believe she has a right to the post.
Prince Hidalgo (DareDelvil) Hidalgo is very much his father's son. Those who do not know his true parentage would be confused by that statement: he is nothing like Mavasu, but almost the spitting image of the Illusionist. He shares Mordre's dignified bearing and quirky sense of humour, but the grounded wisdom of age is replaced by the fiery impetuosity of youth - though his better judgement is good, he can be driven by passion or anger to act against it. Slave: Ichsa-Maeve
Prince Ra'Cuv, the Soldier (Lorenzo de Masearro) He may not be oblivious to the fact he has no tear-markings, but he certainly doesn't care either way. Once he sets his mind upon a certain ideal, he will throw his whole being into seeing it through. Be it for the good of the herd, the bad, or simply neutrality, Ra'cuv will not allow failure on his end without immense sacrifice of his own being in return.

Rules LISTEN TO THESE RULES! Failure to do so means suspension or ban! Horrible, yes, but meant to make this a fun place for owners and nequus alike.
~ RP must be PG-13. That means no cybering of any sort. x.o Don't know why you'd want to in the first place. ~ Be polite to your Nequus, your fellow owners, and others' Nequus as well. This isn't to say your Nequus isn't allowed to harass or pester another's Nequus, but constant harassment and abuse will get you and your nequus banned. No questions. ~ Have lots of fun! This is the first time the herd system has been put into play and lets make this something that future herds will have to work hard to reach. ^^ ~ If you can, RP as much as possible. Not so much a rule as a hope. The more RP the better! NEW! ~ If a non-herd Jala wishes to join the herd, they must have an acceptance rp with the current Queen before they become an official herd member and are recerted on the herd cert. NEW! ~ Breedings between a herd member and a non-herd Jala must have an audience with the current Queen asking permission before doing so, to ensure any resulting foals will be part of the herd. Any breedings without asking will result in non-herd foals on non-herd lines, and may or may not be on the herd cert (if they are, they'll have the status of outsider). If they wish to be part of the herd, they follow the same rule above. Breedings between herd members are perfectly fine and acceptable and no permission is needed. Breedings with any other breed are not allowed.
More rules will be added when needed.- - - - -
.::Herd Lists::. List info: - If you, yourself, are banned from the herd, that means you may no longer roleplay any of your herd Nequus there. - If one of your Nequus is banned from the herd, then only they aren't allowed there. You may still rp there with other herd Nequus, just not the one that's been exiled.- White List - - Kea; for drawing the lineart, coloring, and being so awesome <3 - Lost; for coloring and being wondiferous <3 - Dare; for being so helpful and updating the owner's lists, both the big one and the herd list. <3 - Everyone who rp's and is active! Thanks you guys <333- Black List - No one! Let's keep it that way <3

Story Corner
A featured legend. An archive will be made at a later date but for now the featured story will be posted here:
The Traitor As the herd gathered round, foals eagerly wanting to learn of the past, the legends, the tales of old; adults seeking the tales they loved as a child, or watching their own children listening, an old mare stood in the center. As the ground settled down, she did as well, spreading her wings a bit as she sat on a large rock.
“Good evening, my children...” Her voice was soft, and every ear was pointed towards her, quivering to pick up the slightest sound. “You all know the tail of the Traitor, do you not?” A few murmurs, shaking of little foal’s heads. “Ah, I see we have a new tale to tell then. Now listen closely, children of the herd, listen well as I tell you of the traitor... The traitor who nearly destroyed the entire herd.
A long time ago, not long after the great herd we live in was formed, there was a beautiful white Jala. She was her parents pride and joy. A jewel. She had light silver markings, her tear marks a bright red. She was truly an angel. Every stallion wanted her for their own. Every stallion was denied.
Now, you all know of the Reya, don’t you? Yes, of course. The horrible creatures. Well, there was one. He was kind hearted, so the mare would later say. He was black as the night for which he loved. His eyes were deep blue, almost black, themselves. He loved to fly over the herd, watching the Jala who lived. One night he spotted the snow-white mare sleeping, and instantly fell in love with her. But he did not land, for even he was not suicidal.
Days past and he always returned to watch her from above. She did not know until one night she couldn’t sleep. Confused and dazed, she spotted him in the moon light, and she fell in love with him. Motioning to him, for she could tell his eyes were on her, she walked to the edge of the herd grounds and stopped. He landed just beyond and introduced himself. She smiled and did like wise. He asked her many things, and she did as well. The two talked until just before dawn when he told her he had to leave. And as he flew away, the mare’s heart went with him.
The next week he did not come. The reason was unknown. The entire time her heart ached for him. Others noticed and questioned her but she only replied with a shake of her head. Then finally he returned, and she smiled to him, glad to see his face once more. They talked again and he told her of the love he felt. She admitted to loving him. And then they devised a plan to disappear together.
However as they spoke, a young stallion heard them. Jealousy filled him and the next morning he ran to tell her parents, as well as the Queen. They were furious. A traitor! As she napped, tired from being awake all night, they surrounded her. Upon awakening, she was confused. What was all this? Suddenly she understood as she heard the murmurs of the word traitor. She looked frightened. Papa? Mother? Highness? No one answered her pleas for understanding. That night as she walked to their spot, hidden were the members of the herd. They would kill them both, the traitors.
As the stallion landed, smiling, ready to run away with the mare he loved, he was confused to see her saddened face. “Please run,” she whispered to him as she nuzzled him lovingly. He was confused and questioned her but just then the group swarmed them. Some in the air prevented them from flying away. He looked hurt and confused, but by her eyes he knew she did not want this, that she had been forced. He stood in front, trying to protect her, but the hooves of the Jala were hard, and the teeth tore at him. Blood mixed with his tears as he fell and watched as the snow white mare was also beaten. She fell at his side and he stretched a wing over her cooling body. She was already dead. His eyes faded out as his wing stayed draped over her, still trying to protect her even in death. They left the bodies there, for the bugs to destroy. And from then on, the story of the Traitor has been told..."
She fell silent. Some were crying at the sadness. Others were nodding; served her right. And still more held no emotion. The old mare fell silent. “That, my children, is the story of the Traitor. And that is all for tonight.” She stood and turned, returning to her cave.
