He sighed as he felt the cylinder shape fit familiarly between his fingers, his crimson eyes set on the sky. He raised his hand to burn its end, inhaling its smoke as he did and releasing it slowly into the chilled air.
Another day, another rainy day.
He closed his eyes momentarily as he listened to the rain hitting his roof. It was times like this that stirred unhappy memories; it was only times like this that they arose.
How he hated the rain.
“I really wish you would quit smoking Zsolt”
If Zsolt was surprised, he didn’t show it. He had become used to having the young kitsune around, and although he did not admit it, he liked it.
The young man’s face scrunched in annoyance as he huffed and slumped down next to the red head.
“I’m serious Zsolt! You could great really sick from that!”
At this remark Zsolt sighed, looking tiredly at him.
“And who cares if I do Laxis? There’s nothing worth sticking around here for”
Laxis stared at him, golden eyes widening at his remark.
“Zsolt you must be kidding!”
Zsolt turned his gaze back to the sky, raising his hand to inhale the smoke again.
“I don’t ‘kid’”
Laxis sighed, running slim fingers through his bownish golden hair. How could he explain something to him that he didn’t even fully understand?
Silence fell between them as the rain began to fall harder.
“You wouldn’t understand”
Zsolt lit another cigarette after the other had finished and sighed.
“I wouldn’t understand what?”
Liquid golden eyes lowered as they focused on the vibrating pools of water on the ground. His hands became sweaty as delicate blush covered his cheeks.
“I…uhh…”
Zsolt mentally sighed as he inhaled the smoke again, the kitsune showing obvious dislike to his actions. Letting out a defeated sigh, Laxis brought his legs to his chest, burying his head into them.
“I…would…”
Zsolt let his eyebrows rise at his comment.
“You would what?”
Laxis took a shaky breath, wringing his hands together tightly.
“Uhh…”
Zsolt turned towards the young man beside him and lightly turned his chin so that he could look at him, his fingers lingering on his cheek.
“Laxis…are you okay? You look like you’re coming down with a fever!”
Laxis, if possible, blushed harder. Crimson melting into gold.
“Uhh…no…I…umm…”
Biting on his lip, Laxis shut his eyes hurriedly and leaned forward, lips connecting with Zsolt’s.
Crimson eyes widened at the realisation and watched as the kitsune, whose lips now occupied his, pulled back and covered his mouth, a deep crimson blush covering his cheeks. Standing hurriedly, Laxis ran inside leaving a rather confused Zsolt still sitting on the porch.
He sat in that position for some time before bringing a hand up to his lips, which where occupied just moments ago. To say he was shocked was a mere understatement. But It didn’t mean that…well…it was kind of nice.
Lips curving upward slightly, his eyes rose to the sky again. He found that it wasn’t raining anymore. A small drizzle was falling and the sun had come out, breaking through the clouds of darkness that had just been there.
He lifted the smoke to inhale it again but paused before it reached his lips.
Just maybe...
Throwing the cigarette into the rain, he picked a flower and walked into the house with a soft smile on his face.
He had found a good reason for living.
