Let’s Celebrate Christmas~!My Owner Fic
My Owner @ Ray Kitsune & Hippori Fan fiction by Jeyoriginal ..........“And give it up for Rance!!” a loud voice boomed over the speakers. The crowd cheered wildly as the brown haired man grinned and raised his guitar in thanks before he made his way backstage. In the relieving darkness, Rance sat down on the bench and poured himself a cup of water to drink. He leaned his head back on the wall behind him, taking time to relax himself. Suddenly, the backstage door opened, and two figures strolled in calmly.
..........“Yo! Bro, that was awesome,” greeted the younger looking one of the two. He took off his sunglasses and slipped it in his jacket as he dropped onto another bench. He slicked back his golden brown hair and grabbed a towel off the bench. “Here,” he said, as he tossed it at Rance, “dry yourself off. I swear I could see your sweat flying everywhere when you were on stage.” ..........Rance smiled wryly, “…Thanks Grant.” He leaned forward and wiped his face with the towel. When he was done, he tossed the towel to the side off handedly and glanced at the red-headed man who had been silent all this time. Now the man was lighting his cigarette. Rance looked up at him from his seat on the bench and just gazed at him for a moment, “…Zsolt.” He grinned, stood up and began to pull on his jacket, “It’s been awhile since I’ve seen you down here.” ..........“Hnn?” Zsolt looked up from his lighter at Rance as he finally got it to work, “Yea… You’re not bad Rance. Don’t get why you need me to come along with you to your gigs. Y’don’t need another guitarist.” He tossed the lighter into the wastebasket, muttering, “… I need a new one…”
..........Rance chuckled as he finished dressing and packed up his equipment, “So, where we headed? Dinner?” The three made their way back outside, where it had begun to snow again. Grant went to his bike and swung his leg over the seat, “Nah, we just wanted to stop by and watch you going solo. I gotta get back to my job.” ..........“You mean you skipped work for this?!?” ..........“…Yea?” ..........Rance grinned widely and headlocked Grant, “You rock lil’ bro! Can you believe it Zsolt? The kid actually skipped work to watch me!”
..........Zsolt’s face remained impassive as he watched Rance and Grant engaged in their sibling squabbles, only a hint of a smile on his face. Hopeless brothers… Zsolt sighed and watched the smoke from his cigarette travel up into the night sky. He turned his gaze back to the two brothers again and spoke, “Yea, I need to get back. It’s getting late.” He lifted his bag of groceries to show them as if it explained all. ..........Rance and Grant paused, “Laxis?” ..........Zsolt nodded, “See you tomorrow at the usual place then,” he said, and turned around towards the direction of his house.
..........“Wait!” Rance called out as he ran up to Zsolt. Grant’s bike could be heard as it sped away. “Zsolt!” The two of them walked down the sidewalk of the street. It was Christmas season and shops were all decorated with holiday lights and trees and ornaments. “Say Zsolt… Christmas is right around the corner, and we’re gonna have a get together for it. The usual gang; you, me, Grant, Jereon, Adriana… ya… think we can hold it at your hou—” ..........“No.” Zsolt had his eyes straight ahead, not looking at the families and couples walking around them… the decorations… all useless in his eyes. ..........“But Zsooooolllllllttttt! It’s Christmas!! Fine, we get together somewhere else—” ..........“I’m not going.” ..........“But—” ..........“No.” ..........“Whyy!!?” ..........“Christmas is a highly commercialized season where businesses make a lot of money selling useless items to everyone that only gets put up once a year and will be dumped later anyway. People take advantage of the season to get free things and is a completely useless notion in general,” Zsolt replied flatly, all in the same breath. ..........Rance stared at Zsolt after he finished his explanation and burst out laughing, “Okay, okay, you win. But hey, if you change your mind, give me a call.” Rance turned around to go towards his house, “See ya tomorrow Zsolt! Christmas Eve Party!! Tomorrow!!!”
..........Zsolt finally turned around to look at Rance as his voice trailed away. He sighed and put out his cigarette before tossing it into the trashcan. Christmas… how stupid… Zsolt looked up at the night sky thinking… That was when Adriana and I… broke up… He shook his head, throwing the thoughts out of his head and walked until he reached his house. Zsolt walked up the pathway to his house while pulling out the key from his pocket. Opening the door, he walked in quietly and took off his shoes. He noticed a pair of feet next to his shoes. ..........Eh? Feet? He looked at the feet’s owner. Laxis!?
..........It was Laxis… sitting at the entrance now sound asleep. Was he waiting for me? Zsolt blinked in surprise and glanced at the clock. It was ten o’clock at night. Zsolt looked back at Laxis. He was still a little unused to this feeling… of having someone waiting for him at home. Zsolt set down the groceries on the floor and crouched in front of Laxis to watch his sleeping face. So peaceful looking… Zsolt smiled. Laxis’s dog ears twitched. Zsolt’s eyes flicked towards the fluffy looking ears. ..........“…” Zsolt was silent. …Nngh…I want to pet… Slowly, he lifted his hand towards Laxis’s head and gently ruffled his soft hair, no longer rough from the detergent he had used earlier. Laxis opened his eyes sleepily, “…Zsolt?”
..........Zsolt took his hand back quickly and stood up, “Hey kid...” He picked up the groceries and took them to the kitchen. Laxis trailed behind him singing, “I see sirloin steak heart !” Zsolt rolled his eyes, thinking about the increasing food bill and asked, “Have you eaten dinner yet?” Laxis shook his head vigorously, “I was…” he cast his gaze downwards, “… waiting…” ..........Zsolt paused in the middle of putting away the groceries, his back still facing Laxis. He hadn’t finished the last two words of the sentence. For you… Little pinpricks of guilt poked at Zsolt for coming home so late. He sighed and pulled out a frying pan and one of the steaks to cook. It may not be much, but it was his own way of apologizing without words.
..........Laxis’s eyes lit up as Zsolt set the plate down in front of him and took a seat on the other side of the table. His tail wagged happily behind him as he took his first delicious bite of steak. Zsolt smiled at Laxis’s antics and stirred his own cup of coffee. “Say… Laxis…” he began. Laxis looked up from his steak attentively, sauce dribbling down the side of his mouth. Zsolt stared back and sighed as he took a napkin and wiped his mouth, whatever mood there was previously was completely gone. Zsolt began again, “Christmas… the gang is having a party… d’you want… to go?” ..........If Laxis were really a dog, his tail might had wagged itself off by now, “A Christmas party? Really??” he asked excitedly. He had always loved Christmas season. Laxis caught a look on Zsolt’s face and his smile fell a little, “You’re not… happy about it?”
..........Zsolt sipped at his coffee, his chin resting on his hand, with a faraway look in his eyes, “It’s not that… I just don’t think much of Christmas… that’s all. It’s pretty much a commercialized season. People just buy useless junk for each other and it’s supposed to be all ‘special’. All the decorations you buy, you put up once a year. I don’t really see the point.” ..........Laxis set down the leftover bone from his steak quietly, and wiped his hands on his napkin. He had a fond expression on his face, as if he were remembering something from long ago, “… I always loved Christmas… I got to spend lots of time with my mom and dad. We built snowmen, we had snowball fights… I got to help decorate the Christmas tree… It was so fun… The fun about Christmas wasn’t just the presents. It was spending time with people we lov—” Laxis’s eyes widened fearfully for a split second, before a wave of grief overcame his face, “…loved,” he finished quietly. Laxis stood up, “May I be excused?” ..........“Mmhhmm,” Zsolt murmured in reply, not looking up from his cup of coffee. Laxis dashed off without another word, and Zsolt could hear the front door open and close. Zsolt sighed yet again, but this time in frustration, and rested his chin on top of the table as he pulled out a cigarette. He placed the cigarette in his mouth and reached into his pocket for the lighter, “Nngh… forgot…threw that one away.” He resisted making a frustrated yell, and stood up abruptly to go wash the dishes.
..........When he was finished, he went to the door to go call Laxis back in, but he hesitated when his hand was on the door handle. He probably wants to be left alone… Zsolt thought. A little unwillingly, he nevertheless made himself turn around and went to his bathroom to shower. When Zsolt came out, he peeked in Laxis’s room to check on him but he still wasn’t back. Zsolt gazed at the empty bed, “…stupid me to bring up that subject…” he muttered, and went to his own bed. As he pulled the bed sheets over himself, he glanced out the window and saw the snow falling silently. The moonlight streamed in through the window, reflecting Zsolt’s crimson eyes. The last thought as he went to sleep was that maybe… the party wasn’t that bad of an idea after all…
..........Next morning, Zsolt woke up to the sun shining in his face. Moaning, he tossed the sheets aside and made himself get up. He walked sleepily to the bathroom, passing by Laxis’s room. Laxis’s room! Zsolt backtracked, eyes wide. No one was there. The bed hadn’t even been touched since last night. Zsolt raced downstairs and to the door and yanked it open, “Laxis! Laxis!?” He spotted an unusual lump of snow in the middle of his daisy patch. Zsolt rushed over in his bare feet, leaving footprints in the snow, “Laxis??” He brushed off the snow quickly, finding Laxis curled up in his flowers, shivering with cold, “Laxis!”
..........“H-hi Zsolt,” he chattered. ..........Zsolt picked him up and held him tightly, trying to give him as much warmth as possible, and rushed back inside. Setting Laxis down on the sofa, Zsolt rushed to get a tub of hot water, blanket, and dry clothes. ..........After a bunch of chaos and busy-ness, they both settled down. Laxis in dry clothes, wrapped up in a blanket, and his feet soaking in the water. ..........“Why didn’t you come back in??” ..........“I locked myself out on accident,” Laxis replied abashed. ..........“Why didn’t you ring the doorbell!? Or knock?!” ..........“ …I didn’t want to wake you up… ” he mumbled. ..........Zsolt was astounded, “You could have frozen to death out there!” ..........“Well, I’m sorry for causing you so much trouble, Zsolt!” Laxis shouted as he jumped to his feet, splashing water everywhere. Tears were forming at the corners of his eyes. Laxis trembled as he stared at the floor.
..........“Fool,” Zsolt said quietly and pulled Laxis into his embrace, “…you shouldn’t make me worry like that.” ..........Laxis trembled and burst into tears, crying into Zsolt’s shoulder. Zsolt smiled wearily and sighed. He put his hand on Laxis’s head, “C’mon, let’s go do some Christmas shopping…” Laxis pulled away from Zsolt in surprise, “Eh?” Zsolt grinned and wiped a tear from his face, “We have a party to attend, don’t we?” A big smile appeared on Laxis’s expression, “Yea!”
..........The two had just returned home from Christmas shopping, and Laxis was busy wrapping the presents and putting them under the tree. Yes, they bought a tree as well… and decorated it too. Zsolt was looking at the bills a little vexed again, “Ah, whatever,” and he tore up the bills and dropped them into the trashcan. He sighed and walked to the phone, “I guess I should call them to tell them we’re coming.” Zsolt picked up the phone and began to dial when the doorbell rang. ..........“I’ll get it~!” Laxis shouted, and jumped to the door. Zsolt set down the phone and walked over, just as Laxis pulled the door open...........“Happy Holidays!!”
..........Zsolt nearly stumbled back in surprise, “Adriana?!Rance?! Grant—Jereon?!!? What are you guys doing here?!” ..........Rance grinned as he waltzed into the house, “You skipped out on our usual meeting. I guessed you might be Christmas shopping so I assumed you have changed your mind, so I just had everyone come to your place anyway.” ..........Grant followed right after, “Don’t worry, I got the music and the booze!” ..........Adriana came in, “Jereon and I brought the food along~!”
..........Jereon waited at the door as the other three made themselves comfortable in the living room. Zsolt stared after them in dumbfounded shock as Laxis ran over to greet them as well. Grant lost no time in teasing the boy already. Zsolt sighed and turned to Jereon, “…Come in?” Jereon stepped inside commenting, “The puppy looks unusually happy today. Made you change your mind about Christmas?” ..........Zsolt closed the door after him, and looked away, “… Not really… just… something happened.” ..........Jereon gave one of those rare, rare hints of a smile, “Merry Christmas Zsolt,” and walked into the living room and made himself comfortable. Zsolt sighed, gave up trying to be indignant, and joined the party.
..........Before he was even able to sit down, Zsolt felt himself yanked over by Rance and pulled to the Christmas tree, “Smile!” Zsolt didn’t have time to react before the blinding flash of the camera went off. Rance released Zsolt immediately and went over to Adriana’s side to look at the picture. She was giggling over the picture in the digital camera, and Rance cracked up in laughter as well, “Y-yo, Zsolt, come take a look at your face!” ..........Zsolt frowned and walked over and grabbed the camera, “Let me see…”
..........The room went silent for a moment as Zsolt stared at the camera. Laxis bounded over and jumped on Zsolt’s back to take a look at the picture, “Ahahaha, Zsolt’s face looks so funny~!” he laughed cheerfully. Zsolt let the camera slip out of his hand while in shock. ..........“Gotchya!” Grant dived and caught it before it fell to the ground. He took a glance and burst out laughing as well, “I’ve never seen Zsolt look like that before! This is priceless! Let’s go sell it on E-bay!” ..........“Do it and die!” Zsolt finally reacted as he lunged for the camera. He was going to delete that picture. ..........“Whoop,” Grant pulled it out of the way mischievously, just narrowly avoiding Zsolt. Jereon’s foot, just happened to be in the way, and Zsolt tripped and stumbled into the couch, right beside Laxis. He clapped his hand to his forehead, “Argh, I knew this was a bad idea to have the party at my house,” he groaned. ..........Laxis grinned, “This is really fun! heart ” ..........Zsolt glanced at his expression, “…” He leaned back against the couch with a sigh, and gazed at the chaotic scene before him, “… I guess…” he murmured to himself, “…it’s not… that bad.”
..........A package came flying through the air, hitting Zsolt smack on his head, “Presents time!!!” Adriana called out, her cheeks flushed with excitement. Zsolt picked up the package that hit him; it was from Rance. Taking off the wrapping, he saw it was a book, How to Plant a Tree. “….” Isn’t this the present he got from Jereon?? Zsolt stared at it and glanced at Jereon. He was too busy opening his own presents to notice, luckily. Zsolt glared at Rance and received a hearty grin and shrug in return. Zsolt smiled and took a look at the book. It still looked pretty new. As he flipped through the book, a little note fell out of it.
..........Hey Zsolt, ..........Thought this would probably be more useful to you than for me seeing as how you tend daisies and care for that bonsai. Happy planting!
~ Rance ..........Zsolt grinned and tucked the book away carefully.
..........“DUDE! GEEZER! THANKS!” Grant yelled across the room, waving the biking gloves Zsolt had bought for him. ..........“Geezer?” Zsolt raised his eyebrow. ..........“Oops,” Grant laughed, “Sorry. Thanks Zsolt. How’d you know? I’ve been wanting a pair badly.” Zsolt remained quiet and smiled, knowing well that Grant didn’t want to spend money he earned on gloves even if he wanted it a lot. He had noticed Grant’s rough hands from yesterday night when he was squabbling with Rance. Riding a motorcycle with no gloves was tough on the hands. Although Grant had called him geezer, Zsolt felt warmer inside for some reason… ..........Rance came over afterwards and thanked Zsolt for the yearlong movie pass at the local theater and gave him the real present: a pack of lighters. Adriana gave Zsolt a friendly hug for the bouquet and picture frame with a picture of the bonsai that he took care of. Jereon gave his quiet thanks for the classical music records…he still hadn’t bought a CD player. ..........From Jereon, Zsolt received another ‘How to’ book, How to Raise Puppies, and from Adriana, earrings and a wristwatch. From Grant, he received the CDs that Grant had borrowed from before, some newer CDs, and a note attached. Zsolt took the note in his hands and read it.
..........Yo Zsolt, ..........Thanks for lending me the CDs. I burnt a couple new mixes for you. Have them ready for me to listen to whenever I come over.
Thanks, Grant ..........Zsolt raised his eyebrow again, “Brothers are very alike aren’t they…?” ..........Laxis pounced on Zsolt, “What do you mean? ..........Zsolt ruffled Laxis’s hair again, “Ah… it’s nothing. Are you enjoying yourself?” ..........Laxis beamed, “Definitely ~! You?” ..........Zsolt chuckled, “Suprisingly… with all the trouble everyone causes… I am.” ..........Laxis smiled and gave Zsolt a big hug, “That’s good.” He jumped over Zsolt and sat in front of him, “So~ What did you get me? More steak?” he grinned. ..........Zsolt glanced at his face, cheerful and smiling, and felt a smile grow on his own face as well, “Nope, something better. Hold out your hand Laxis.” ..........Laxis obligingly held out his hands expectantly. Zsolt had something in his fist and dropped it into Laxis’s hand. ..........“It’s a key…” Laxis said quietly when Zsolt took his hand away. ..........“Yes… that way, you can come and go any time you wish… and not get locked out again,” he grinned. Zsolt raised Laxis’s face towards him, “Okay?” ..........Laxis trembled with emotion, and tears cascaded down his face as he threw his arms around Zsolt and cried tears of joy, “Thank you Zsolt… thank you so much…” ..........Zsolt was tense for a moment, but then he slowly relaxed and returned the hug. Suddenly everything in the room felt brighter… cheerier… warmer. Zsolt smiled and leaned his head against Laxis softly and whispered in his ear,
“Merry Christmas, Laxis.”

Thanks~! My Owner Fic : Zsolt x Laxis
My Owner © Ray Kitsune & Hippori Fan fiction by Jeyoriginal Really, really?
Thanks~! ______In the morning when Laxis woke up to go take a shower, he came back out of the shower realizing he had left his change of clothes in the bedroom. He yelled for Zsolt, “Zsoolt! Can you help me get my clothes? I left them in the room!” When Zsolt passed the clothes through the little gap in the door Laxis had opened up, Laxis said, “Thanks Zsolt.” Zsolt waved it off, “It’s fine.” But when Laxis tried helping Zsolt water the plants, he spilled a puddle of water and broke a pot.
______When they walked in the park, Zsolt picked Laxis up for the third time that day from tripping over his own feet. Laxis blushed, “Sorry, and thanks.” Zsolt nodded. But when Laxis tried to help Zsolt out by finding the path through the park, somehow they ended up in the off-limits swamp at the center of the forest.
______ Later in the market when Zsolt picked up the sirloin steak, Laxis jumped up in joy, “Are you getting that for me?” And when Zsolt replied yes, he jumped up happily, with his tail wagging, “Thanks!” Zsolt just continued on shopping. When Laxis tried cooking their dinner, the kitchen ended up having to be hosed down with a fire extinguisher.
______ At night when Zsolt tucked Laxis into bed, the boy seemed slightly low in spirits. Zsolt asked him what was wrong and he replied sullenly, “I feel like… you’re always doing all these things for me that I thank you for… but I can never do anything for you that you can thank me for…” Zsolt ruffled his hair and said, “That’s not true. Here, thank you for not getting in too much trouble today.” Laxis stuck out his tongue, “You didn’t mean that,” and with that, dove under his blanket and said, “Good night.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
______ The next morning Zsolt woke up to the sound of pouring rain. He got up from the floor and looked at the bed where Laxis was. To his surprise Laxis was already awake and not in bed anymore. Zsolt shrugged and sat down on the windowsill and brought out his lighter and cigarette. He lit it and stared out the window, watching the heavy rain and beginning to worry about the daisies in the garden. If the rain keeps it up, they’ll drown. Maybe I should go and— Zsolt stood up abruptly, hitting his head on the top of the window, dropping his cigarette in the process, “Ow!” He rubbed his head ruefully then went back to looking out the window quickly, “Laxis?!”
______ The young demihuman was running outside in the rain with a big bundle of stuff in his arms. Zsolt looked on in surprise as Laxis stabbed stakes into the ground around the daisy patch, albeit a bit clumsily, and begin to pull the tarp over the flowers. Zsolt relaxed as he watched over him and almost smiled. He snubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray and turned to go.
______ Laxis wiped his wet hair out of his face and struggled at pulling the heavy tarp over the flowers properly. “Oof…” he grunted. The rain was getting heavier and it was pretty cold out too. He stepped to the side to finish putting on the tarp and he feet slipped in the mud. Laxis squeezed his eyes shut as he fell, waiting of the impact of hitting the ground but it didn’t come. He peeked one eye open. The rain seemed to have stopped too. A sigh and a voice came from above him, “Careful there Laxis.”
______ Laxis jumped up from the person’s arms and nearly slipped (again), and stood back in the rain with an embarrassed flush on his face, “Z-z-zsolt!” The crimson haired man raised his eyebrow at Laxis from under the safety of his umbrella, arm still held out from where he caught Laxis from falling. “Yes?” he said partially amused. Zsolt waited for an answer as he bent over and pulled the tarp over the last bit of the daisy patch. Then he turned to go back inside. Laxis still hadn’t moved. Zsolt patted Laxis on the head and waved his umbrella around, “Aren’t you coming? Or are you going to help me cover up the grass too?” he joked.
______Laxis pouted, “I read about it in the gardening book Jereon-san sent me. You do that to protect the flowers from drowning in too much water.”
______Zsolt looked at Laxis in surprise and grinned, “… Thanks Laxis, I really do appreciate it.”
______“Really?”
______“Really.”
______“Really really?”
______“Really really.’
______“Really really really?”
______“…Laxis…” Zsolt sighed. Laxis grinned and pounced up on Zsolt, getting the dry and clean Zsolt, all wet and muddy, “Yay,” he beamed, “Zsolt thanked me.”
______Zsolt began walking back into the house with a sigh and a smile, and a Laxis on his back. So much for the umbrella.
One Wish My Owner Fic : From Contest CONTAINS SPOILER
My Owner @ Ray Kitsune & Hippori Fan fiction by Jeyoriginal I know I stopped believing in you a long, long time ago… God… but there’s one wish… just one wish… my only wish…
Please… I pray that Zsolt is always here with me.
One Wish _________ Laxis stared out the window idly, his tail slowly swishing from side to side. His breath fogged the window and he drew a little smiley face which soon disappeared as the fog faded away. Laxis let out a little sigh as this happened and looked past the window to where he was staring at in the first place… Zsolt… tending to the daisies out in the garden on that cold winter morning, “Why…?” Laxis wondered. Zsolt had awoken early in the morning as usual and Laxis had peeked open an eye to watch him. From the bed, Laxis watched as Zsolt stood up and walked over to the drawer he had always kept locked. Zsolt would open it and look at something inside… then close it and walk away. Always the same thing… day after day.
_________On one of the days when Zsolt wasn’t home, Laxis had tiptoed over to the drawer to open it but discovered it was locked to his very surprise. So many things were hidden from him. It hurt somehow… Once Laxis had curiously asked Zsolt about why there are different types of demons and the conversation had gone well. He got to sit right next to Zsolt as he calmly explained the types of demons there were… but when they got to a certain page, the mood suddenly darkened and Zsolt stared at the book with an expression Laxis had never seen before. After that Zsolt seemed to stop talking and went out for a smoke instead. It worried Laxis… and it made him wonder…
_________Laxis leaned his head against the wall and continued staring out the window at Zsolt, who so tenderly brushed the snow off the daisies and watered them. As he watched, Laxis felt overcome with a feeling of loneliness and pulled the blanket around himself.
Why is it that even though we’ve been living together so close under one roof, Zsolt still seems so far away?
-------------------------------------------------------
_________ Zsolt watered the daisies as he always did. Silently. The flowers brought back memories. It was painful. Why couldn’t he just forget? He wanted to forget… or did he?
_________ ~‘Oh? You came back again?’ a gentle, pure voice rang out over the garden catching Zsolt slightly unaware. He didn’t realize where his feet had taken him as he patrolled the gates of heaven. He didn’t mean to go to the Garden of Eden… again. Zsolt stepped out of the shadows with a slight, almost unnoticeable blush in his expression. _________ ‘Ah…’ he grunted in agreement. The young woman laughed and tucked her hair behind her ears as she made her way towards Zsolt. She walked straight up to him and stared up at his face. Zsolt blinked a couple times in surprise and looked down, taken aback, ‘Philena?’ _________ To his befuddled voice, Philena giggled and took hold of his arm and pulled him along with her, ‘Zsolt, come with me, I want to show you something.’ He let himself follow along as she held his hand tightly. Zsolt stared at their hands…her delicate pale hands holding his tightly like no one had ever… no one in heaven would treat a demon so.
_________ ‘Look at this Zsolt,’ Philena’s voice snapped him out of his reverie. _________ ‘Hnn?’ he asked as she pulled him closer to a patch of flowers she was pointing at. _________‘Daisies,’ she pointed at a cluster of white petaled flowers. _________Zsolt blinked, ‘So? They’re normal flowers on Earth everywhere—’ he broke off as he was sprayed by a gush of water from the hose Philena held. ‘. . .’ Zsolt stared at Philena as the sounds of water droplets could be heard. _________ Philena giggled but didn’t apologize. She took a towel and draped it over Zsolt’s crimson, now wet and crimson, hair, ‘But daisies aren’t very common in heaven… I haven’t seen many since I’ve come here. It was strange not to see them…’ she explained as she dried Zsolt off with a smile on her face. She continued talking about random things. The weather… the flowers… but Zsolt didn’t hear much of it. He was gazing at her as she towel-dried him, and he was thinking that the daisies reminded him of her. The white delicate petals, simple and pure… Philena was the same. Beautiful, delicate, pure, and glowing with unbiased affection for all things living. It was enough for Zsolt to just stand there and bask in her warmth...~
_________ The sound of tires screeching brought him back to reality with a jerk. Zsolt snapped to attention and quickly turned off the hose and looked at the loud intruder. A helmeted biker swung off his motorcycle and took of his helmet, revealing a handsome young face. A girl would see that face appear and probably squeal in excitement, ‘Grant!’ in a high pitched voice. But Zsolt, upon seeing the face, grumbled, “Grant,” then put away the hose quickly, entered the house, and slammed the door shut.
-------------------------------------------------------
_________ Laxis snapped awake when he heard the door slam. He had slipped off to sleep as he watched Zsolt. Quickly, he hopped out of the bed and hurried down the stairs to greet Zsolt. The latter was calmly taking off his shoes and ignoring the knocking on the door. Laxis sweatdropped, “Ehh…shouldn’t you open the door?” he asked. _________ Zsolt nonchalantly walked past Laxis into the kitchen, “Nope. It’s probably some pesky salesman trying to sell a useless product.” _________ “I heard that y’old geezer! Open the door already! It’s cold out here.” _________“Eheh…” Laxis laughed unsure and walked over to the door and unlatched it. The door banged open unceremoniously and Grant barged in, striding past a startled Laxis standing off to the side. Laxis shut the door after him meekly and followed Grant into the kitchen where he was confronting Zsolt, “Geezer! Why didn’t you open the door?!” _________“Because I didn’t want to let the snow in.” _________“Why you…”
_________Laxis calmly took a cup of hot water and mixed in chocolate powder and blew at the steam to cool as he waited for Grant to settle down. Without checking the calendar, Laxis knew it was Saturday. Grant always came over on Saturdays.
_________“Get a job.” _________“I have a job!!”
_________ The pointless argument continued. Laxis sipped his hot chocolate.
-------------------------------------------------------
_________~ Half an hour later~
_________ Sitting down around the table, finally, Zsolt asked, “Teh… so, what are you here for this time?” He pulled out a cigarette and lit it, and glanced at Grant. _________ “Geez, so annoying. I could have been working instead. Jereon gave Rance a message to give to you, but since Bro has to go to a gig, he made me send it over,” Grant reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled letter and slid it over to Zsolt. There was a Jereon’s wax seal on the envelope, with the insignia he was known by as a master magician. Laxis looked curiously at the envelope as Zsolt quickly took it and pocketed it, “Neh, Zsolt, why don’t you open—” Laxis trailed off as he looked up into Zsolt’s expression. His eyes widened… it’s the same…
_________ “Eh? What was that?” Zsolt seemed to come back to himself and looked at Laxis. “Oh, it’s nothing.” Laxis looked away into his now empty mug. Grant, feeling awkward, made his exit. He scooted the chair back and stood up, “Well, I better get going. I think I’ll drop by Bro’s performance before I get back to work. See ya round.” _________Laxis quickly got up as well, “I-I’ll close the door,” and followed Grant out, leaving Zsolt in the kitchen alone, who had begun to read the letter in his hand. Laxis waved at Grant as he zoomed away on his motorbike and then Laxis closed the door and locked it with a soft click. He looked back at Zsolt in the kitchen. The expression… was the same as that time we were looking in the book about demons.
_________Laxis walked slowly back into the kitchen, “Z…Zsolt?” _________Zsolt quickly pocketed the letter and stood up, “I’m going out for a bit, you stay here Laxis.” _________“Eh? But—” Zsolt didn’t give time for Laxis to finish. He swept past him and out the door in the flash of an eye into the cold winter day. This time it was Laxis left standing in the kitchen alone… staring at the closed door… feeling as lonely as ever.
-------------------------------------------------------
_________Zsolt walked quickly through the streets towards the pub where he, Rance, Adriana, and Jereon usually met up, but this time, it wasn’t just to meet up for drinks and chit chat. He needed to talk to Jereon now. Zsolt opened the door to the pub, inviting the chilly air in with him. Snow melted into puddles around his feet. Ignoring everything, he strode over to their usual table where Jereon sat waiting. Zsolt sat down and tossed the letter at Jereon who caught it without blinking an eye, “What do you mean?” Zsolt asked urgently, not much like his usual demeanor. _________Jereon tossed the note into the flaming fireplace, “Exactly what it says Zsolt… I received word from some of my cohorts. He’s here… somewhere… but he’s close by. Be on guard,” he said calmly with that deadpan expression he always had, observing Zsolt’s expression. _________Zsolt’s hand tightened into a fist, “He’s here? He came here?!” Though Zsolt said this all in a volume the same as always, the tension and anger shone through in his voice. Jereon spoke clearly, “Zsolt. Don’t do anything rash. Remember what Philena told you.” _________Zsolt slammed his fist against the table, “Jereon,” he said forcefully, trying to keep himself calm. He took his cigarette and rubbed it into the ashtray. Zsolt held his hand over his eyes and leaned heavily on the table, “Damn it…” Jereon stood up and left to give Zsolt some time alone, and came back with two mugs of beer, “Don’t worry too much just yet… he might not know you’re here.” _________“That doesn’t matter. Even if he doesn’t know I’m here, the b*****d’s probably ruining someone else’s life.” _________“…” Jereon put down his cup with a thump on the table, “Just be careful Zsolt.” _________“Nnh,” Zsolt affirmed, and stood up to leave. He drained his cup in one go, and walked away. Jereon stared after Zsolt’s retreating figure and sighed. Then he, too, stood up and made ready to go. ‘Damien… what are you here for?’ he wondered with a hard glint in his eyes, ‘If you dare show your face, I will be forced to show you mine as well. You won’t hurt Zsolt like that again…’
-------------------------------------------------------
_________Laxis roamed about the house with nothing to do. He watered the bonsai and made the bed as well as he could. He even attempted to do some cleaning in the house, but stopped quickly as soon as one of the cups broke because of him. Now Laxis was sprawled on the bed staring up at the ceiling, “Zsooolt…. Where are you?”
_________Suddenly a revelation hit him. He turned on his stomach and gazed at the locked drawer, “Mmph,” Laxis pushed himself off the bed and went to the drawer. Pulled. Nothing happened, it was locked of course… as usual. Laxis peeked into the keyhole wondering where the key would be. He watched Zsolt everyday when he opened the drawer but he never saw him take out a key. Could it be Zsolt always had the key with him!? Laxis shook the thought away. That wouldn’t be fair. He tugged and pulled at the handle with no result. Getting frustrated, Laxis kicked at the drawer, “Open up already!”
_________With a click the drawer slid slightly open. Laxis stared wide eyed at the open drawer, instantly forgetting about the pain in his foot from kicking the drawer. No way… Laxis hesitantly edged closer to the drawer and finally peeked inside. Not much was in there… A frame. Laxis slowly took out the picture frame and looked at the picture inside. It was of Zsolt… and a beautiful girl. Zsolt had an expression Laxis had never seen before. Not that it looked very different… Zsolt’s face didn’t change much, but… the feeling in the picture was different from the Zsolt now. Laxis stared at the picture in silence, not even realizing that tears formed at the corners of his eyes, waiting to fall. He sniffed, “Eh? Why am I…?” Laxis hastily put away the picture and closed the drawer, hoping that Zsolt might not know he had opened it. He jumped back under the covers of his bed wiping the tears away. I’ve never seen Zsolt like that before… who is that girl…? Why am I crying…? Why does it hurt?
_________Laxis curled up into a little ball, “Zsolt… come back soon.”
I feel lonely without you…
-------------------------------------------------------
_________Grant arrived as the concert ended and Rance was getting off the stage. He was about to go greet his older brother when he noticed Adriana walk up to him and pass him a towel with a smile on her face. His eyes watched intently, hidden behind his sunglasses, watching the smile on his older brother’s face, knowing how happy he was and how much it meant to him that Adriana was attending his concert. Grant looked at Adriana’s face wondering what his older brother meant to her. Just a friend? More? What about the geezer… did she still like him the most?
_________“Geez, she beat me to it,” Grant scratched at his head and turned around to leave when a large hand patted him on the shoulder, “Yo.” Grant whirled around to see Rance and Adriana right behind him each with the smile they always had. _________Grant grinned weakly, “Eheh... what’sup?” _________Adriana scolded him, “You weren’t about to leave without saying hi to us were you?” Grant grinned, “O-of course not. But I’m gonna be late to work soo… catch you both later!” he said and dashed back to his motorcycle. _________Rance stared after him dumbfoundedly, “Gr-grant?” _________Adriana interrupted, “Want to go get a drink Rance? Cheers to your great performance.” _________“Ah… sure,” Rance grinned, putting his brother’s strange behavior to the back of his mind.
_________Grant watched his brother and Adriana in his rearview mirror until they walked away, “Stupid brother… just tell her already.” He put on his helmet, then pushed off and zoomed away into the afternoon to his next job.
-------------------------------------------------------
_________Zsolt slowly walked back the house where Laxis was probably waiting for him. He lit another cigarette and continued walking, a trail of smoke following behind him. Why is he here? Zsolt leaned against a tree alongside the path and stared at his hands. His hands drenched in blood… Zsolt gasped and his eyes widened. The blood disappeared. He let out a breath and held his hand over his right eye… the one covered with a patch, “Damien…” he gritted out through clenched teeth.
_________~‘No Philena!!’ he cried out. With pained breaths, Philena slowly reached out her hand. Zsolt took it in his own frantically. ‘I-it’s okay… Zsolt.’ A pool of blood slowly formed below her, staining her white clothes, ‘I don’t blame you for anything… please… forget about it… forget about me…’ _________‘Never!! Philena, don’t talk like that!’ _________‘…don’t carry your guilt with you…’ her voice was getting quieter. Zsolt had to bend close to hear her, ‘…I want to see you live on happily… even when I’m not by your side… I love you…’ And then her breath stopped. _________‘Philena. Philena…? Philena!!’ he stared at the lifeless hand he held in his own bloodstained hands, ‘PHILENA!!”~
_________Zsolt panted, not realizing he had been holding his breath through his memories. An expression of pain and sorrow flit through his features before his old expression was back again. He thumped his head against the tree, “I thought I forgot this already…I thought I forgot about all of it…”
-------------------------------------------------------
_________Laxis sat near the door, awaiting Zsolt’s arrival. He glanced at the clock as the second hand slowly ticked away the time. The sunlight grew dimmer and dimmer and Zsolt was still not back. Laxis leaned against the wall in boredom and waited… and waited…
_________~ ‘This is your warning…’ Blood everywhere… Tears mingling with the rain. ‘Mom!! Dad!! Why?? God… please! Bring them back…’ Laxis yelled up into the rainy skies, ‘Why God?! Why won’t you listen to me?? WHY?!?’ he fell to his knees, rain pouring down around him. ‘Why…?’ he sobbed.~
_________Laxis woke up with tears in his eyes. That… was when I lost faith in God… when he couldn’t bring back what was most dear to me… no matter how I begged… no matter how I cried. He could never bring them back… but God… The door handle clicked, signaling Zsolt’s return. Laxis wiped the tears away and sat up excitedly. The door opened slowly, Zsolt wearily walked in. Laxis’s eyes widened. Zsolt…
_________“I’m ba—” _________*whump*
_________Zsolt looked down in surprise at Laxis who threw himself towards Zsolt and locked his arms around him, “….” His slender frame trembled with everything he wanted to say but couldn’t find the right words.
Don’t look so sad… don’t look so lonely Zsolt. Talk to me. Tell me what’s wrong… don’t suffer on your own… _________Zsolt and Laxis stood there for a while, neither one moving. The only sound that could be heard was the ticking of the clock, still counting the seconds away. Slowly, Zsolt shifted and slowly wrapped his arms around Laxis, “…I’m sorry.” _________Laxis only clung tighter.
That’s not what I want to hear… Zsolt!! _________“I’m sorry…”
_________ Later at night, Laxis stared up at the ceiling, listening to Zsolt’s steady breathing nearby, ‘Were you saying sorry for coming back late…? Or were you saying sorry because you can’t talk to me about it...?’ Laxis rolled about unable to get comfortable. He hadn’t had that dream in a while… not since he came to live with Zsolt… why now then? He felt a chill run down his spine, ‘This is your warning…’ The voice… red eyes… that’s all Laxis could remember of him… the one who was responsible for his parents’ deaths. He sat up slowly and slipped out of bed. Tiptoeing, he made his way to where Zsolt slept on the floor and lay down next to him, snuggling against the warmth of his back, “Goodnight Zsolt,” he whispered before he slipped off to sleep.
_________ “… Goodnight… Laxis.”
------------------------------------------------------- _________ The next morning Laxis awoke on the bed, “Nngh?” he blinked sleepily. “Eh?” he sat up and jumped out of bed and flew down the stairs. He stood in the doorway of the kitchen panting, gazing at Zsolt calmly sipping his coffee. Zsolt looked up, “Hm? What’s your hurry?” Laxis blinked a couple times and said nothing, but proceeded to make his hot chocolate for breakfast. Both acted as if yesterday never happened. _________ “You should drink more milk instead of chocolate. You’ll grow taller that way.” _________ “Ah! That’s mean Zsolt!” _________ Zsolt ignored the comment and continued on, “I need to go buy groceries today so I’ll be going soon—“ _________ “I want to go!” Laxis interrupted. _________ “Eh?” _________ “I want to go shopping for groceries with you,” he continued stubbornly, getting red in the face, while he adamantly stared at his mug of hot chocolate, which he was now adding milk to. Zsolt folded his newspaper and set it aside slowly, “Fine…” _________ Laxis’s ears twitched, “Really?” he asked happily. _________ “Under one condition,” Zsolt said sternly, “Don’t ever leave my side.” _________ Laxis beamed, “Promise. Cross my heart and hope to die—” He began the crossing motion over his heart that children often did when they promised, but Zsolt caught his hand, “Don’t ever hope to die… even if you break a promise.” _________ “I-it was just—” Laxis bit his lip. _________ Zsolt stood up and ruffled Laxis’s hair, “C’mon, let’s go.”
-------------------------------------------------------
_________ Laxis happily clung onto Zsolt’s arm as they walked towards the marketplace. The condition was to never leave his side. Laxis would more than happily comply with that. On the road, they met up with Rance, Grant, and Jereon randomly. _________“Oh hey, nice to see ya man,” Rance said unceremoniously. It was obvious he was in a pretty good mood, “Don’t get to see you two much. Doing your shopping?” _________ “Yea…” Zsolt confirmed as he gazed at Jereon. _________ The elf nodded in greeting. _________ Laxis looked from Zsolt to Jereon, sensing an awkward pause, he interrupted, “C’mon Zsolt, let’s buy some sirloin steak <3!” _________ Zsolt looked away from Jereon to Laxis, “How bout I buy you more milk. It’s healthier and less money.” _________ “Nooo, Zsooolt!!” _________ Grant laughed and grabbed Laxis in a headlock, “Little midget wants to grow tall yes? More milk for you!” _________ “But I don’t like milk!!” _________ Zsolt’s eyes grew gentle watching Laxis, “C’mon, we need to get our shopping done.” Laxis’s tail wagged as he slipped out of Grant’s grasp and clamped onto Zsolt instead, “Yay~!” _________ Rance stared after Zsolt, “The guy’s changed a little… ever since he picked up Laxis… hasn’t he?” _________ Jereon gazed after Zsolt as well, “…Mm…” he said, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. There was no doubt Zsolt had changed since he brought Laxis back with him, but to Jereon, it seemed that Zsolt was merely gaining back part of what he once was. _________ Suddenly, Jereon’s eyes went wide as he sensed something nearby, and quick as a flash, his expression was back to normal, though his eyes were colder and harder than usual, “Rance, hurry and get the shopping done. Then we go.” _________ Rance looked at Jereon in surprise but complied, “Yessir! Come along Grant.” _________ “Stop treating me like I’m a little kid!” _________ “Little brother Grant, baby Grant—” _________ “I’m going to kick your *** Rance!” _________ Jereon gazed after the two brothers for a while and then turned around to where he felt his presence, as well hidden as it was. Damien… Zsolt, don’t do anything stupid.
-------------------------------------------------------
_________ Laxis skipped along, following Zsolt. Cabbage? Yes. Carrots? Yes. Broccoli? Yes. Everything Zsolt asked if he wanted, Laxis replied yes. It didn’t matter what he had to eat. The fact that he was with Zsolt shopping at the moment was all that mattered. Laxis was holding on to Zsolt’s arm when he felt Zsolt go tense. Laxis looked up, “Zsolt?” He was staring straight ahead with that expression again. Zsolt brushed Laxis off and set down the groceries, “Take care of the groceries Laxis, and stay right there. Don’t move.” _________ “Eh?” Laxis cried out, “Zsolt?!” he ignored the groceries and tried to follow Zsolt as he swiftly made his way through the crowd. “Zsolt!!” Laxis soon lost sight of him in the crowd as he was shunted and pushed by the people around him, “ZSOLT!” _________ “Whoa there,” Rance said surprised, “Laxis. Calm down.” He had bumped straight into the two of them. “What’s the matter, Laxis?” _________ “Zsolt… he… he said not to leave his side, but then he ran off all of a sudden and—” _________ “Where did he go?” Jereon interrupted out of nowhere. _________ Laxis whirled about, “Je-jereon-san…?” he knew the elf didn’t trust him, but even then he had never seen him seem so angry. _________ “Where did he go, I said?” he repeated. _________ “I-I don’t know. I got lost trying to follow him. We were at the steak stand and then he ran off… Jereon?!” _________ Jereon had turned about and walked off quickly, heading in the direction Laxis spoke of. Laxis broke away from Rance and Grant and followed Jereon. _________ Rance shouted, “Laxis! I think you should stick with us… something serious is going on!” “Laxis!” Grant shouted, “Get back here you midget!” _________Laxis ignored them and followed Jereon closely to the point where he nearly bumped into Jereon when he paused, “Why are you following me Laxis?” _________ “Well, b-because! I want to find out what’s going on with Zsolt!” _________ “It’s none of your concern.” _________ “It is too! If it has to do with Zsolt, it has to do with me!” _________ “This is over your head Laxis! You don’t know anything about Zsolt. Don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong or the one you’re hurting is Zsolt.” _________ Laxis’s eyes widened. The image of the picture in the drawer flashed in his mind, “… does it have to do with Zsolt’s past…?” _________ Jereon remained silent. _________ “It has to do with her…” _________ “What are you talking about?” _________ “The girl… in the picture with Zsolt… picking flowers…” _________ “Philena…” Jereon whispered quietly… _________ “Eh?” _________ “It isn’t my story to tell. Just go home for now and wait for Zsolt to come back.” With that, Jereon continued walking off, leaving Laxis standing alone. _________ “Aw… pity, pity… poor child left all alone…” a sultry voice echoed out to Laxis. _________ Laxis whirled about, “Who’s there!?” That voice… _________ A long nailed hand reached out and held Laxis’s chin up, “Don’t remember me already little boy?” _________Laxis stared into the face of the speaker in horror. Red eyes… “You…” _________“Oh? So I am remembered. How special I feel. So what have you been doing… hanging about Zsolt and changing him again, after all that hard work I went through to make him miserable. Oh well, more fun and games for me.” _________“Wh-what are you going to do with Zsolt?!” Laxis shouted fearfully. _________The long haired man grinned, “Oh nothing I haven’t done already. But that’s cute… You care about him so much you’re not afraid for yourself? After what I did to your parents after all…”
_________I saw him… I saw him. The thought ran through Zsolt’s mind as he followed the man he saw. It was Damien… no doubt about it. He was here. Zsolt grit his teeth and kept on running till he reached the abandoned warehouse he had seen the figure enter. He walked in carefully, alert for any sign of the wizard, “I know you’re here Damien.”
_________Silence followed his statement. Then suddenly a voice came from one direction, “And so what if you do. What can you do about it Zsolt?” Then it came from another, “You’re weak and pitiful. There’s nothing you can do.” _________The warehouse doors slammed behind Zsolt and at the center of the warehouse stood none other but Damien. _________“You…” Zsolt snarled. _________“Yes, me…” Damien smiled, “Miss me? I missed you Zsolt, so much.” _________Zsolt’s face contorted in fury and his hands were bared like claws. _________“Ooh, look, it’s that face I missed,” Damien sighed, “Such a lovely face.” He noticed the murderous intent emanating from Zsolt, “Oh tut tut, don’t be such a party pooper, after all, you don’t know if you’re really killing me right?” Damien’s image faded into one of Philena, “You could be killing your lover, remember?” he said in Philena’s voice and image. _________Zsolt snapped and he lunged for the kill and once more stabbed the pseudo Philena through the heart. She was already dead… this kind of trick wouldn’t stop him— _________Philena’s image wavered and changed into a smirking Damien, before it disappeared and revealed Laxis’s face, “Z…Zsolt.”
_________ Zsolt’s heart stopped for that moment, before the illusion went away and the crates he had smashed, splintered into shards of wood; a few of the shards cutting his face. Zsolt held his trembling hands up to his face. For a moment, he thought he had really killed Laxis. His whole body felt weak and shaky. A sinister laughter echoed through the warehouse, “Ohh, so the boy does have importance to you. Poor, poor Zsolt. Oh look! He stands.” Zsolt stood up shakily, driven by the rage he felt for Damien. Jereon’s words flashed through his mind, ‘Don’t do anything stupid.’
I already did… I already did Jereon…I let myself care for Laxis…
_________A magic insignia appeared out of no where, slamming Zsolt against the wall, and binding his hands and feet against the wall. Damien appeared in front of him with a smirk on his face and watched as Zsolt struggled against the bonds, “Oh my… now this is the view I missed the most.” Damien walked towards Zsolt slowly step by step, “Your face… your rage… I miss it so much.” His hands slid against Zsolt’s stomach up until they reached his face. _________“Don’t touch me!” Zsolt snarled. _________Damien smiled, basking in the hatred, “Yes… I love your rage. Give it all to me.” The shards of wood had cut Zsolt’s face and blood dripped from the wounds. Damien held Zsolt’s face still as he bent close and licked it off slowly.
---------------------------------------------------
_________Laxis stumbled away from the man in fear. This was the man who killed his family… this was the man… these thoughts ran through his mind, but the one that popped up most was, “What do you want with Zsolt?” The man laughed, “He’s at the warehouse waiting for you while I play with him.” Suddenly, the man jumped back, narrowly avoiding a flash of lightning. He glared at the source of the magic, “You!” he snarled. _________Laxis glanced over in the same direction, “Jereon…san…” _________Jereon glared at the long haired man, “Damien… you think I wouldn’t notice your presence? What are you doing here?” _________The man smiled as his gaze locked with Jereon’s, “It’s none of your concern,” he sang out, as his image faded. _________Jereon let his guard down and helped Laxis up, “The real him is at the warehouse. This was just a fake he sent out to distract me.” _________Laxis clenched on to Jereon’s sleeve, “Zsolt…” he mumbled, “I’ve got to get to Zsolt!” He broke away from Jereon and began running… and running… and running.
Please… God… I know I stopped believing in you a long, long time ago… but there’s one wish… just one wish… my only wish… "ZSOLT!!” Laxis yelled as he reached the warehouse. He banged against the closed doors, unable to get in, “ZSOLT! Are you there?!”
---------------------------------------------------
_________ “-olt…” Someone is calling me… he thought dimly. _________ “ZSOLT!” Laxis. His eyes opened. He was still bound by Damien’s magic, no matter how he struggled; he was unable to break free. There were cuts and markings all over his body where Damien had… “Zsolt! Are you there?!” _________ Damien stood not too far away with a pissed off expression at the interruption, “Insolent boy, interrupting my precious time with my dear Zsolt. Maybe I’ll let him in, just to let him see you in your pitiful state.” _________ “N-no! Don’t—” _________ Damien narrowed his eyes and vanished from Zsolt’s view. Slowly the warehouse door opened, revealing a small, lonely figure peeking into the darkness of the vast room. Zsolt sweated. He wanted to yell at Laxis to get out of there, but that would only make him run towards the sound, but yet if he didn’t say anything, Laxis would still wander in by himself. Zsolt pulled against the bonds and to his surprise, they released him. He rubbed his wrists ruefully, ‘What is Damien planning…?’ Zsolt stood up determinedly and headed towards Laxis.
_________ “Zsolt?” he said timidly, then began to run towards him.
_________ Zsolt took a couple steps towards Laxis, hands reaching towards him, stumbled and fell. Laxis watched in horror as Zsolt seemed to fall slow motion towards the ground. Laxis stumbled to the ground with him, catching him just before he hit the ground, “Zsolt!!” Laxis numbly held tightly to Zsolt, taking in the injuries all over him. Cuts ranged throughout his body, and it looked like lash marks, and small bruises around the neck area. Laxis stared, wide eyed at the bloodied Zsolt. A flashback of his mother. A flashback of his father. Drenched in blood. _________ “Noooo!!” he screamed, “Zsolt! Wake up!! WAKE UP!”
I know I stopped believing in you a long, long time ago God… but!!! There’s one wish… just one wish…! My ONLY wish…!!
_________ “Q-quiet. You’re giving me a headache,” Zsolt said weakly, and pushed himself off the ground. Laxis was racked with sobs, “Wh-what happened to you??” _________ Zsolt wiped off the blood from his lip off the back of his hand.
_________ ~Damien seemed to savor the taste of his blood before he smirked and leaned close for the taste of his lips. Zsolt froze, staring at the image before him, ‘Philena…?’ he whispered before the image faded back to Damien’s leering face as he nibbled Zsolt’s lip greedily. Zsolt roared, ‘STOP THAT!’ The magic crackled around him as he tried to break free… how he wanted to tear Damien apart, bit by bit. He clenched his eyes shut in his efforts, only to stop at the touch of a small hand on his face. A Laxis stared up at him, hands holding his face and tiptoed to reach him, ‘Zsolt…’ he breathed. Zsolt stared at him, ‘No, you’re not him… you’re Damien again, you’re—’ he broke off as tears began to form in the corner of Laxis’s eyes. ‘No!’ Zsolt closed his eyes, ‘Stop messing with my mind!!’ He struggled again, nearly pulling the magic bonding apart until Damien snapped his fingers and pain jolted through Zsolt as it seemed many little knives slashed at him. When it was over, Zsolt hung limply from his bonds.
_________‘Fine with me,’ Damien shed his disguises and appeared as himself, ‘Would you rather have me?’ He swept his hair aside in a confident manner and swept up close to Zsolt, pressing his body against the other, ‘Did I say how much I love this view of you Zsolt?’ Damien leaned his head against Zsolt’s limp figure and brought his hand clawing down against his chest, drawing blood. Zsolt winced as Damien licked his fingers and proceeded to move upwards, little kisses until he reached Zsolt’s neck where he kissed him deeply. A mark formed where he kissed… the collar bone, the nape of his neck, and so on… Zsolt couldn’t fight back… ~
_________“Nothing,” Zsolt growled, “Where did he go…? That b*****d…” he stood up slowly, blood dripping from his wounds. Laxis grabbed his hand, “Let’s run Zsolt! We have to get away!!” Zsolt yanked his hand away, “Run away!? From him?!? NEVER!” he said angrily. _________Laxis, wide-eyed, stepped a couple steps backwards without knowing it. Zsolt… is this really him? That anger…Zsolt… is it really at me? Zsolt realized his mistake and calmed down, “I-it’s not like that Laxis. I didn’t mean…” he held out his hand towards Laxis. Zsolt’s vision wavered from the blood loss, “Laxis…” and suddenly his vision became clear as glass, “LAXIS!”
_________Damien appeared without a warning behind Laxis and caught hold of the boy so that Laxis’s back was pressed up against him and held his wrists behind his back firmly so that he couldn’t escape, “Hello little boy,” Damien whispered, tickling Laxis’s ears. Laxis could feel the wizard’s breath against his neck, “Are you really so eager to die? Like your parents… interfering and sticking their noses where they didn’t belong…” _________Laxis’s breath caught in his throat, and his heart thumped rapidly, “…” _________“What was that? I couldn’t hear you. Did you say end it now? Why I’d be more than happy to do so—”
_________“DON’T!” came a voice unheard since days long ago. It was Zsolt’s voice… but Laxis had never heard this voice before… It was full of pain and sorrow… regret and hatred… everything Zsolt had fought hard to control for so long so that it didn’t consume him, “Please…” he fell to his knees, “Damien… don’t… just don’t touch Laxis…”
_________Zsolt… Laxis sobbed, “Zsolt--!” Damien didn’t know whether to cry or laugh at this outcome… Zsolt broken before him… no… not yet broken, but at the point where he would beg… beg! No pride… Damien let out a peal of cynical laughter which slowly transformed into a laugh of hatred, “You!” he snarled, “If you want the dog back so much, take him back, I’m through with this. You’re not fun anymore…” With that Damien shoved Laxis back towards Zsolt. As Laxis stumbled closer, Zsolt felt a sense of relief wash over him, but it was diminished when he saw Damien behind, summoning an icicle spear and aimed it towards Laxis.
_________As if everything were in slow motion, Zsolt jumped to his feet and leaped towards Laxis. Why do I care so much for a dog like you…He stretched out his hand towards Laxis. When I never even liked dogs… Laxis reached out his hand as well. You were just sitting there, alone… delicate. Their fingertips brushed against each other and then they clasped each other’s hand tightly. Then I got to know you… you were pure… like her as well. Zsolt pulled hard on Laxis’s hand, pulling him close to his body. You reminded me of her so much… but you were special in your own way. Zsolt turned them so that his back was facing Damien, and Laxis was protected. I wasn’t able to protect her that time… but I will protect you with my life… Laxis’s eyes widened as he saw Damien behind Zsolt. Because you are important to me Laxis…“ZSOLT!!!” ---------------------------------------------------
_________The doors slammed open and Jereon appeared as Zsolt fell… pierced by the spear, “Zsolt!” He watched, feeling the impotence of being a step late, as Laxis sobbed over Zsolt’s body. Jereon could feel the rage build up in him and it manifested in magical aura circling and billowing out from himself. Damien snapped his head up at his rival magician, surprised at the display of strength never seen before. Jereon aimed his attack at Damien but the prepared wizard defended quickly and deflected the attack, which Jereon quickly rerouted back towards Damien.
_________Damien smirked and began to make his get away when something caught him by the foot. Damien gasped in shock, “Zsolt!” _________Zsolt, ignoring Laxis’s pleas to stop, clung on to Damien and pulled himself up until he was eye level with him, using Damien as support. _________“You…” Damien started, then stopped and looked down at his stomach where Zsolt stabbed his hand right through. _________“That… was for… Philena,” he whispered quietly in his ear, “Come back… and I will do that again for my friend… again for myself… and again for Laxis.” With that ultimatum, Zsolt slumped to his knees and fell unconscious to the ground from all the blood he had lost. _________Damien stumbled from the injury to himself, “Damn you Zsolt… Damn you!” And distracted by what was in front of him, he had totally forgotten about Jereon’s oncoming attack and was hit by it at full blast.
---------------------------------------------------
_________It was impossible to tell through all the light and smoke whether Damien was hit or not, but Jereon felt the presence disappear and didn’t even have time to sigh a breath a relief when he remembered to hurry to Zsolt. Laxis was soaked in Zsolt’s blood, the little puppy rubbed his bloody hands against his face trying to wipe the tears but only succeeded in smudging his face with more blood, “Zsolt!! Zsolt!!!” he cried heartbrokenly, “God…! Why?! Why can’t you come true for me even once?!” Laxis sobbed, his forehead touching Zsolt’s own. “THAT WAS MY ONE AND ONLY WISH…!!” he sobbed. Jereon strode over to him and pulled him back away from Zsolt, “Move Laxis.”
_________Laxis whirled about at Jereon’s voice and cried accusingly, “WHERE WERE YOU?! WHY WEREN’T YOU THERE!? KAMI-SAMA, I DIDN’T ASK FOR ANYTHING ELSE! YOU LET MY MOM DIE, YOU LET MY DAD DIE, YOU LET EVERYTHING IMPORTANT TO ME DISAPPEAR… BUT WHY!? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE ZSOLT AWAY FROM ME?!” _________“LAXIS, MOVE OR ELSE HE’LL DIE FOR REAL!” Jereon yelled, for once losing his cool. Laxis fell silent and let himself be pushed aside as Jereon quickly examined Zsolt and began to treat him, using spells and potions he hadn’t had to use in ages. Laxis stared wide eyed, tears rolling down his face, “Zsolt…” he mumbled, trying hard not to cry.
Please God…I don’t care what hardships may befall me… But please just grant me this one and only wish… Please.
_________Jereon concentrated intensely on the spells he used, carefully making sure not to change anything in Zsolt’s body. He cursed himself for being slow… the anti magician wards Damien had placed outside the warehouse were difficult for him to break, and by the time he finally did, it was a step too late. A bead of sweat rolled down his face. The demi-human… Laxis… what he said repeated itself in Jereon’s head over and over. The boy… the dog… whatever he should be… Laxis’s most important person… was Zsolt. _________As the wounds slowly healed on Zsolt’s body, Jereon let himself sigh a breath of relief and smiled. Then finally, he lowered his hands and sat back, relieved he managed to get to Zsolt in time to save him from death. Laxis suddenly hugged Jereon from the back tightly. Jereon looked surprised at the two hands locked around him, “…?” The hands were trembling.
_________“I-I’m sorry for what I said earlier Jereon-san. I w-want to…to thank you so much… so, so much for saving Zsolt… If he died… I don’t know what I would—” _________Jereon held up his hand, and Laxis fell silent. Jereon looked up into the sky and though he didn’t say anything, Laxis could feel that Jereon was saying something like you’re welcome. What he didn’t know though… was that Jereon too felt something similar to Laxis. If Zsolt had died… what would he do then? Return to the life that he once had…? But it wouldn’t be the same… not after he had met everyone… not after he had met Zsolt.
---------------------------------------------------
_________Laxis stared at Zsolt’s face, willing his eyes to open. Willing him to wake up. His hands were clenched tightly and he was praying with all his heart.
God… although you must have lost faith in me already… like how I lost faith in you so long ago… But there’s one wish… just one wish… my only wish that I must ask…
Please… let Zsolt always be here with me.
_________Jereon glanced over at Laxis, who was gazing intently and worriedly at Zsolt’s resting face. Slowly, without looking at Laxis, he reached over and placed his hand over Laxis’s small hand with a reassuring squeeze and then stood up and left the building to find Rance and Grant once again.
_________Laxis was left with Zsolt. He didn’t speak… he didn’t cry… he didn’t budge. Not for hours when the sun had set and the moon began to rise. Not until Zsolt finally blinked open his eyes and the stars were brightly lit in the sky, did Laxis finally speak, “Zsolt…” _________Zsolt looked up at Laxis’s worried face and looked back down at himself in surprise, his hand patting every inch of himself, searching for a wound. He found none and smiled, “That Jereon…” he sighed and pushed himself up. Without a word, Laxis leapt into his arms and hugged him tightly, “Zsolt!” he began to cry. _________Zsolt slowly reached over and this time held Laxis tight, and said softly, _________“I’m sorry…” _________Laxis shook his head, blinking tears of happiness, “It’s okay…” Though Zsolt was saying sorry again… it was different this time. It was a gentle sorry… the type that said ‘I’m sorry… stay with me,’ rather than the, ‘I’m sorry… let’s not talk about it.’
_________Zsolt slowly stood up, carrying Laxis in his arms, and began to head for home. As they walked back through the snow, Laxis clung to Zsolt. They passed by Adriana, just closing up her jewelry shop and headed to where Rance worked. They passed by Rance and Grant, running late to get to where Rance worked. They passed by Jereon, strolling slowly after the two brothers, not even batting an eye as Zsolt decided to join them, still carrying Laxis. The six of them met up with each other at the cross street and entered Rance’s work place together. Laxis still safely snuggled in Zsolt’s arms could feel nothing but the happiness and warmth of all of them coming together like this, but nothing felt better than being about to be next to Zsolt, slowly getting closer and closer to his heart.
Thank you…Thank you for granting my
One Wish
