There's just some element to it missing this year, but for the life of me I can't put my finger on exactly what that is.

This years event was cheap. Especially that timer that's usually set to 3-4 minute intervals. My sister just got 18 eggs in a row, and her friend somehow got 6 or 7 in a row. Clearly this event is just random for a lot of people, and I doubt a timer being used.
As for the one handed item thing that's annoying now, because I recall a few items I owned being able to double up to one hand. It was a glove, matched with a donation item. Forget the combo, but it doesn't work anymore when I try it.
