Alternative colleges?
  I'll take my bachelor's degree regular-native, thanks.
Never thought about it before, really....
Never heard of them, but I'll look for sure
I have 12 lined up, and I have no idea how I'll chose.

So upon approaching the end of my first year in college, I've decided that the whole American liberal-arts institution is a bunch of crap and my councelor from my alternative high school has laid out the idea of an alternative college. A lot of them aren't accredited, but for the fields I'm looking at (acting, seamstressing, prop building, puppetry/clowning) are difficult to find majors in, or at least a hard-working well-funded department in at a regular college.

I was wondering if anyone else out there was wondering about the prospect about an alternative college as opposed to the 4-year degree program or if they've even thought of them as an option or if they've even heard the term "alternative college" before in their lives?

I've never heard of the specific term "alternative college." But I'd have to say Evergreen State College in Washington is by far the most alternative college I have ever heard about. I couldn't deal with the lack of stucture myself, but it sounds like a brilliant place for people who could be that self-motivated.

I would personally like to get into Florida State University. But I knowIndian River Community college has an excellent theatre program...it's a back up for just in case I don't make it to FSU.

My first gut response is get your bachelors degree! Thats one of the first things people will look for on a resume. Unless you have some solid experience to back up not getting a degree.

However I'm not very familar with an alternative college... if that's the route thats going to be better for you then definately switch and go that way. The only program I can think of that may be sort of an alternative school is PCPA Theatrefest where people get a theatre certificate after 2 years in either acting or tech. Finding a program in one specific area for undergrad is going to be tough no matter where you go. Usually in your junior and senior they will let you focus on the area you want to go into.

hmm well, that's all I can think of advice wise for now. Do what's best for you. Good Luck.
