Ligier the Green Sun
I don't know. I don't think it would strike me as being incredible or auspicious. Though many people visit the descendant of that very tree in Bodh Gaya (the original tree died long ago, but its seeds led to the current tree), believing that it has special powers to help their practice.
I doubt it would have any special powers really, though historically speaking I think it would be quite a nice thing to see.
smile This kind of reminds me of a story Thich Nhat Hahn told to emphasize the principle of "Right Mindfulness" in the concerns of being where you truly are.
He said that if the Buddha were alive and in India in this particular time, you could bet that millions would flock to India, to walk with him, talk to him, or get their picture taken with him, but as they did so, if they were thinking thoughts such as "I can't wait to show this to everyone back home" or things that they would like to do in the future as a result of THIS event, then they aren't really there with the Buddha at all, but some far off place that is not where they should be.
He said in truth, if you are in right mindfulness, then no matter if you are alone or with someone, you are always walking with the Buddha, or standing next to him, because Buddha is just a concept of the enlightened person within you, and that we are all Buddha. So being next to him, or being alone, you are always with the Buddha.
Could that also be translated in this sense?
I mean, just sitting under a tree doesn't bring about enlightenment, so what difference would it be to sit under the ancestor of the Bodhi tree, or to sit under the great oak in my own front yard?
I'm not trying to be cynical, just kind of throwing a question out there...
...Lol sorry, I'm so long winded.
Historically though, it would be quite fascinating to go to where Buddha achieved his enlightenment...imagine the wonderful feelings you would experience while being there!
