"Shamash?" The name was familiar, but it did not bring to mind a particular face. Her expression darkened as she heard of the possible abuse, though. "I'd agree with you on the abuse thing, though: any kid who's been messed up is going to use their powers in ways that they probably shouldn't." Crossing her arms, Persy leaned against the wall, thinking of what else could happen. "He might be easily manipulated, too. Depending on how he took it, he could either lose early on, or go on really far into the Game." Sighing, she shook her head. "Either way, though, an abused kid is not exactly going to make things easy for us."

"So, what are we? Two months in and we've already got a nutcase, a trickster god, a sadistic celt, And someone threatening the entire human race," Anubis exclaimed only half jokingly. "Is there anyone we don't have to worry about?"

Well, no. Clearly, everyone this time was serious.

"I mean, I can understand why everyone is so excited. We haven't played in millenia. Not since He won. This is how wars start. But why are we only playing in this city?"

He paused, trying to think of the possibilities.

"Persy, this isn't the only city left, is it?"

He certainly hoped not.

Persy shook her head, wrapping a stray strand of hair behind her finger. "Fortunately, no: this isn't the last of the Cities, and there's a few that are only about five hundred kilometers from here, maybe a little closer." She ran a hand through her hair again, somewhat bored by the mortal talk.

"However, this is the only City large enough to house something like the Game. It would be impossible for a Godling from any other city to play, if there even was such a child. Humans can no longer travel the globe, and are restricted to small prisons they have chosen for themselves." Persy felt rather prophetic, and gave a sagely nod to add to it all. "But, if you ask me, it's their own damn fault."

So much for prophetic.

Anubis felt relieved, but also a little remorseful. Even in Ancient Egypt, travel had been entirely possible. Anubis knew why it wasn't anymore - the thousands of miles of radioactive desert, the angry poisoned seas... It was all over the news in this fearsome new world.

"Where the hell did they go wrong?" he asked angrily, his temper finally snapping. "We gave them this world on a silver platter and they went and poisoned it and didn't even leave themselves an escape route. They had so much potential, more than anything before them, and this is how they thank us? By raping the planet we made to their exact needs?"

Persy gritted her teeth, listening to him talk. It irritated her that Anubis thought he could just waltz in and cry about the woes of humanity, hoping for a sympathetic hand in the form of the goddess. She was not so loving, and she knew he knew it. There had to be some alterior motive, some true reason he was here, and it made her tense.

Just because they were both neutral didn't mean they didn't still hold rivalries from their pantheons.

"I'm sure even the gods would enjoy some hindsight, Anubis," Persy said, nodding. "It's all well and good to b***h and moan about the humans, but if they were perfect do you think they'd need us?" Her lips tightened in a wry grin: she was on a philosophical roll today.

"I mean, c'mon, how fun would it be if you only got to reap animals? They don't kick and scream as much."

Anubis shrugged. "Well, yeah."

Changing topics, then, he thought. "We're here until the end of the game, it seems. How long is that?"

Personally he wasn't sure whether he preferred this world or his underworld. But he did miss the kingly treatment he deserved. "I know it's early, but I'm already getting tired of these brats."

"The Game goes until someone wins. Don't you remember?"

Persy's expression turned into a frown, and she walked closer to Anubis, her face not amused. "But either way, you're going to have to leave. You're killing my plants again." With a tense hand, she pointed to her nearby flowers, which were starting to wilt.

"And if you ever feel the need to reminisce again, we'll do it at your place. No more death gods in my store." Crossing her arms, Persy walked back to the counter, dusting off her apron. It would seem that the little patience she had was expired.
