Okay, recently we're having problems with getting Kay to listen and respond accordingly.
Hubby was in the kitchen working on something and Kay walked up and grabbed his arm and proceeded to hang from it. This is something that's been going on and Hubby's okay with it if she lets him know that she's coming.
Hubby asked her to get off because he needed to get someting done. She didn't and he ended up yelling at her, I came in and gave her a time out (3 minutes 'caue she's 3) and after the time out Hubby was calm enough that toghter we explained why she had a time out.
After we were done explaining to her we asked her why she had a time out. She responded with "I don't know." So went over it with her again...

I know part of this is her age and she's testing her limits, but it's getting really frustrating to yell or give her time outs to get her to listen.

I WISH I KNEW WHAT TO TELL YOU.

EVER SINCE MY DAUGHTER STARTED 'TESTING HER LIMITS' AT AGE 1, WE'VE JUST SENT HER TO HER ROOM. (THE FIRST TIME I EVER SAID 'GO TO YOUR ROOM', SHE ACTUALLY WENT--WITH MUCH STOMPING, OF COURSE--SO WE'VE JUST STUCK WITH IT.)

IT USUALLY ONLY LASTS 3-5 MINUTES BEFORE SHE COMES OUT AGAIN, BUT BY THEN, THE TANTRUM OR WHATEVER SHE WAS DOING HAS USUALLY RUN ITS COURSE AND SHE'S FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT IT, AND WE'RE BACK TO WATCHING BLUES CLUES OR PLAYING PUZZLE OR WHATEVER.

I dont know what to do with her.

i know what you mean...my little boy(2 yrs.) doesn't listen to us, even though we put him in time out and talk to him about why he is in timeout. he only listen if we yell at him...i don't like yelling at him because, that is what my husband and i went though when we were kids. i don't want to become our parents to our son. and god knows i don't want to go to the spanking thing. but what else can we do? i love my son and i don't want to hurt him or make him scared of us...respect yes but not scared.

aquapurple2981: I know exactly what you mean. I grew up afraid of my dad and I don't want my children to grow up afraid of me.

To borrow my little brother's words my "mom is a marshmallow."
