Well, today I was cleaning blah blah blah and came accross my FF games. Then something suddenly hit me that I for some reason never even thought of before!
Final Fantasy 7-10 were basically the same thing! You got your male main character, you got your white-magic girl who the story is mostly based around, and you got your saving the world. Let's review!:
FF7 involved mostly Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeris, and the side love you knew was there between Tifa and Cloud. But you know, you had the basics stated above. Then Aeris dies, it turns into a story about the past of the main male character, then you go back to the female white magic character, then you save the world!
FF8: Now, FF8 goes a little off track, but you still got your basics...sorta. You do have the male main, going back through his life story, and then the saving of the earth. I'm not completely well versed on 8 since I haven't replayed it as much as I have 7, 9, and 10.
FF9: You got Zidane, your male main. Garnet your female main/white magic etc. They meet and theres the whole thing about keeping the female main safe, then somewhere along the line you go to Zidane's past, and finally you save the world.
FF10: FF10 is probably the only exception with the fact that the male main's ending. But otherwise, it's the same thing. You catch my drift?
So, it's not that I don't love FF's it's just...are they as original as we thought they were? Do we buy them because we expect those things? Do you think I speak lies?
I mean...the stories behind the characters are different yet...not....it's like built around the same concept.
Discuss.
[no yelling or complaining, it's just something random that suddenly came to me, keep the discussion clean and non-violent.]

yeah that's kinda why i gave up on final fantasy, too many games and the it's the same thing every time, i don't mind the same characters especially if i like them but designers have to be more creative with the plot

I don't really think that. I can see what you mean but there are differences and the characters (becuase they aren't the same in personality) change the story a lot. There always has to be a main male and female and then a love story and some past telling. It happens in all games.

Final Fantasy VII through X were basically the same plot until XII. There's no crappy love story. whee No offense; it was just annoying.

It must be the type of plot line that sells the best. 3nodding And what you say is true but really, its the difference in the characters that make the difference. I can name a few games that are the same way that aren't FF.

i think that you also have to consider the other parts of all the stories.. maybe they show some similarities.. but also, they have many differences.. you can't boil the games down to such big concepts and ignore the finer details..
if you think about it... a lot of games have the same idea.. its just what sells and what people look for in a game..

Well, you do make a point on how they always seem to have to save the world, while on the side going through their past life and such, but that never seemed to stop the never-ending fandom, has it?
I'm just thinking its the basic joys what the game brings. Creativity doesnt run low with FF, and who can resist some of the more adorable creatures? Maybe the following Final Fantasy games may have the same concept, but ti doesnt stop people from loving it domokun
