I remember reading about the Gaia townships feature on Wikipedia where users will supposedly be able to walk around virtual towns and interact with other gaians, possibly even entering thier homes and such.

Really, a 'wander around town' chat client-esque thing has been a feature I've always wanted to see in Gaia, and never expected would actually be done due to the mammoth task of item redrawing.
