So... I'm currently required to take four semester of a foreign language. I've taken 2 so far of Spanish, and I'm tempted to take the last year and be done with it.
However, I'm also very very tempted to start fresh with Japanese. Meaning, the credit for Spanish wouldn't have done me any good.
I have enough credit hours and time left in school to do it. But, it'll be a pain in the neck having to take an extra year. I just figured it would be more interesting (for myself, having no interest in Spanish). Also, I figured it would help me when I want to eventually take Korean (not offered here...or else I would be in it now).
Wah. I hate this. gonk I know I could just be miserable for the next year in Spanish, but I'm really tempted to switch over.
Then I could at least convince myself watching anime would be semi-educational.
Well, see what I do. I haven't come to a conclusion yet.

Honey... Do the Spanish. It'll be hard but it'll serve you better in the long run. I wanted to take European Studies in college but with my background in journalism, Communication was a better choice so I wouldn't waste what I learned. I'll take the European Studies after Communication as a bonus. You should do the same. Finish what you started and if you still have the will, capacity and desire, take Japanese.

I agree. I know it won't be any fun but you should finish up with the Spanish and then take the Japanese. That way you'll get it done with and out of the way and won't have to worry about it again. Then you can take the Japanese and have fun with out worrying about getting the number of semesters done in time.

What kind of career are you looking for? I'll agree that finishing Spanish first would be the best idea, but you might want to look at Japanese more closely if you plan on going into a really high-level tech field.

Japanese all the way. It may just be me, but I know I failed spanish HORROBILY!!!! So, I would try the Japanese. Also, if it's something you like you will be more apt to learn it, than if you are forced into it!

Man, that's a tough one. I know that I was dealing with the exact same decision, but I decided to do both. You may not have that option, though, I suppose. Well, Spanish is the more commonly useful, and it will serve you well when you're trying to get a job. But, I also wouldn't want to tell you to do something you really don't like. I would say go with Japanese, because that's where your interest is.
