Profile

Name: Tristan
Meaning: From the Celtic name Drystan, which was probably derived from drest meaning "riot" or "tumult". It is sometimes associated with Latin tristis "sad", but this connection is doubtful. In Celtic legend Tristan was sent to Ireland in order to fetch Isolde, who was to be the bride of King Mark of Cornwall. Instead, Tristan and Isolde end up falling in love.
Essence: Smoldering Intentions
Ability: Tristan, in a twist of his essence, does not set things aflame as you'd expect. Or rather he can, but not through pyromancy. Instead, he has the ability to shift his body into a dragon, or some form between. There are two side effects of this ability, however. One is the fact that his blood is flammable when exposed to oxygen, and the other is that his right eye is that of his dragons form, though with the scar over it he explains it as a side effect of an old wound. Still, he hides the eye with an eye patch.
Emotion: Determination
Effect: Beyond being more determined himself, he inspires determination in others, whether he wants to or not. In most cases this could be considered a good thing, but when coupled with negative emotions, it can be very destructive.
Weakness: Beyond his attachment to humans, which is a weakness in itself, Tristan tends to have a darker, jaded outlook on life. Plus, his ability to inspire determination in others can make other people quite stubborn around him, which leads to confrontations with his own forceful personality. He also dislikes the cold, and the rain, as both make him sleepy true to his dragon-like nature.

Age: 469 years old. Body appears 25.
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 206 lbs
Personality: Tristan is a dark, jaded, and sarcastic person. At least, that's how most people see him, as thats how he's determined to come off. To people who actually manage to get close to him, they find that he's actually quite warm and caring, if a bit mysterious at times. In fact, he almost seems to have a strong protective streak, mixed with a bit of a hero complex. so no matter how gruff and harsh he seems, remember. If you can get past that outer layer, he's really just a big softie.

History

Tristan started out his life like every other Clockwork. He was created, from Sionek's determination to succeed in his experiments. Shortly after, maybe only a year or so after his creation, his 'younger' sister was created from the same essences as him. When she, too, was abandoned immediately as a failure Tristan took her himself, and ran off with her. The only safe place he could think of was with the humans, so that is where they went.

Initially, Tristan raised his sister himself, as they lived amongst the humans. And though initially he had moved in with them from necessity, Tristan quickly came to be genuinely fascinated by them, and even grew to like them, unlike his sister who after she discovered she wasn't one held herself aloof. For over 100 years they lived like this, moving around the continent as time passed. Then, however, something happened that tore Tristan away from his beloved sister.

He fell in love with a human girl, one who accepted him even when he told her what he was. Not knowing how to explain this to his sister, he eloped with the girl, and ran off to London. He let his sister know where he went at that point, of course, but there is no recollection of her ever visiting.

Tragedy struck only a few short years into the relationship however. In the year 1666, on the 2nd of September, the Great Fires struck London. Tristan's beloved was one of those killed, even as he tried to shield her with his own body. Tristan himself was likely presumed dead, by all who knew him.

After the fires, Tristan seemed a changed man. Where he had been warm and welcoming before, he now seemed dark and guarded, his sharp wit keeping people away. Shortly after he found himself on a ship to the 'new world', where he settled in the area known as New York. Here was a new world, far away from everything he had known. Here, he could try and start over. That sentiment only lasted for another hundred years, however, before he was dragged into the American Revolution. Then again, at that point, he truly believed in the cause of freedom.

After that battle was won, Tristan went back to his peaceful living, moving onwards and westwards with each expansion. This was partially because he was getting restless, and partially to keep any from noticing that he never aged. This continued until the civil war, at which point his was again forced to fight, on the side of the Yankees. With this, Tristan decided that he'd had enough, and spent the next few years searching for a new place to be. This led him, through England, to reside in Japan just as the Meiji era was starting.

There, Tristan again spent a large number of years living a mostly peaceful life. He learned the language, their customs, their history, and even managed to be trained by a samurai in one of their dojos after proving himself properly respectful of their culture. He lived there until shortly after WWI, which he had been forced to participate in. After that, he again left the country to try and avoid war, running back to the place he felt he knew best. The United States.

Since this time, he's lived a quiet uneventful life, using his habit of being a packrat in the past to open up a business selling antiques and old books. With the way the country has been going though, as well as his nagging feelign that the past is catching up to him, Tristan has been planning to move back to London in order to confront whatever is coming.

This history is unfinished. If anyone wants a place in it, feel free to discuss.

User Image - His younger sister. Before their separation, she was the closest person there was to him. Since that time however, he's had no contact with her, and no longer known what she's like. Or, for that matter, even if she's alive.
