((Sorry for the delay! Muse ran away. o.o ))

Kekarn felt so very, very fortunate. First he'd met the young male, Deimos, and had run with him for a bit. Sure, his side was still vaguely sore from encounter but a few days without tripping over red and black fur had done him some good. And now, here, he'd met a kind future-leader who was fast becoming a friend! Not only that, but he'd actually accepted his ideas on love and offered him a chance to run with a pack.

What a week!

To find wolves who accepted him without hesitation, who didn't care about his oddeties on love and mates. Now, if only he didn't ruin this chance! Yes, Kekarn was going to make sure he watched his step with others. Those who didn't have to know wouldn't know, and as for future relationships. . .well. . the chances that he'd find one like himself was slim to none. But, just to be safe, he'd make sure to steer clear away from any ideas of love.

He had friendship and a pack now . . . those could be surrogate loves, right? Why did he need to find a particular mate? Love was love, right? Friends were a sort of love, and pack was family. It wasn't as if he'd be without attention.

Large tail still waggging behind him, he fervantly enjoyed the return nuzzle. Contact . . . it was nice to be had, really. How long had he been without? Curling up with Deimos for a night had been a good break in his long respite, but it wasn't enough. Maybe with this new pack he'd get the social affection he longed for and enjoyed.

It would be good to be in a pack again, oh yes. How Kekarn had missed the life.

"Animals for connections, eh?" A strange idea, one he'd never thought much of. Man yanimals were food - rabbits, birds, squirrels, even the occassional fox! But to use them as allies, as tools . . . The purple male digested such information before giving a little grin. "A novel idea," he agreed, "If a bit new age." But there was no criticism behind his gaze, only kindness and acceptance. Who was he to speak of 'new age' ideas anyway?

There was one question, though, about the animals. Did that mean every animal in the packlands was an ally? Or just a small few? And if that were the case . . .

His thoughts were cut off as Alexander lifted his head and howled. Kekarn couldn't help himself. So that was his alpha's call, was it? Lifting back his head, he allowed his own voice to lift to the sky. Two voices, two melodies, though Kekarn made sure to sing softer. He was nothing but harmony.

As the song died, Kek's tail wagged and he pawed at the ground. That had felt gooood. Still, there was that nagging question to be had.
"But how do we seperate friend from prey?"

Alexander smiled kindly at the big purple male. It pleased him to please others. Personally, he liked that quality about himself and hoped it wouldn’t get in the way of him being a leader. Luckily for Alexander, he was fairly balanced. Though he liked pleasing others, he had no problem disagreeing with them politely. His mother had taught him good manners before she passed away.

Mother…

The adolescent often wondered what happened to his mother. This was one of his many worries. He had seen his sister and brother die, but his mother… She was different. What if she had just been late coming back to the den? What if she had come back later to find him gone? Alexander shuddered at the thought. No, it was very dangerous for lone wolves, so she had probably got in some sort of trouble.

Snapping back to reality, he noticed Kek had asked a question. Alexander’s features became focused and he turned his own crystal blue eyes to his companion. “Well, for starters, we should be able to pick up a pack mate’s scent on them.” He paused. “But if not, I was thinking about some sort of password.” Still slightly unsure of his ideas, Alexander asked Kekarn, “Do you think that sounds good?”

((Sorry for the delay! I kept trying to repond to this and either A. it ate my post or B. I never managed to finish it before I had to scurry off. Argh. My apologies. n_~ ))

THe wolf listened to the navy and cream male, digesting the information the wolf gave him. He did like the idea of seperating ally from foe but at the same time there were a few concerns.

"So would our entire packland be considered a no-kill zone?" He questioned slowly, tail wagging as he sat down beside Alexander. The cogs of his mind were working out any kinks in the system, contemplating every angle and trying to find any loop-holes they may someday address. "If that were the case then we'd know all the animals were allies. That doesn't mean another wolf wouldn't eat them, or another predator but I thnk it would work out just fine. That, or yeah, having a certain word they could say if they felt threatened or thought perhaps one of us might be looking at them a little funny.

"My only concern is that our lands might get over run. With how rabbits breed, how are we going to control their numbers? And would our lands become absolutely overwhelmed?"

He didn't mean to interrogate or question Alexander, and have gave a halfway apolgetic whine. Leaning over, he nuzzled his cheek, giving it a light lick. A lazy smirk and shrug of his broad shoulders, "I don't mean to question things, but that's my only concern. . . . besides figuring out who might be who."

Another nudge with his nose and he allowed his blue eyes to drift back to Alex's. Kekarn was quite pleased that he'd had such good luck. A new alpha with some very interesting ideas. He'd never heard of a pack that allied with their prey. Oh, sure, occassionally bears could be spoken to or foxes and squirrels. . . but mainly, for Kek, he ate them.

All of them.

They were yummy. n_n

(( No problem, I kinda went MIA this weekend anyway. nn;; ))

Alexander sorted through his feelings and ideas as he listened to the larger male’s questions. This was, after all, the first pack he would even be part of let alone the first one he’d started. Who knows, maybe he’d be an awful leader and the pack would turn mutinous and kill him. He hoped not, but it was a possibility. Which is one reason he wanted to recruit trustworthy members such as Kekarn. Alexander knew he could trust this wolf; after all, Kekarn had divulged a huge secret to Alexander already. He knew he would get along marvelously with this purple wolf. Plus, showing from his interrogations, Kekarn probably had much more wisdom to share than he or Deimos.

The young leader flicked his ears and cocked his head as he thought. Alexander often looked comical to other wolves as his brain mulled things over, but he didn’t really know or mind. Sitting down, Alexander began to reply, “No, the packlands aren’t an automatic no-kill zone, but many of our allies will be there so hunting might be annoying.” He took a moment before clarifying. “I mean, if every animal you come up to ends up being a messenger then that would make it difficult to find a meal. But the pack is basically made up of loners so we’re all good at hunting in different territories already. In fact, I know a few, including me, which already have preferred hunting grounds.”

Alexander suddenly became serious. “About the other predators… the pack should automatically do its best to keep them out of our lands at all times. Other wolves could easily danger one of members, especially if there happens to be pups around.” Just as suddenly, he flipped back to his welcoming self. “But if you’d like to bring a new wolf into the lands, just have it cleared with me or the other alpha. You’ll meet him soon enough.” Unbeknownst to Alexander, Kekarn might meet Deimos even sooner than he imagines! Or maybe it should be ‘met’…

Answering the last concern, Alexander nodded, “That would create a problem, but the protection of the pack does not extend to the messenger’s family unless they help too.” Pausing for a second, he pre-empted a possible future question. “Along with that, I think we should have some limit on how many animals we consider our allies, but this will have to change with the size of the pack.”

The navy adolescent gently nuzzled Kekarn in return. “No problem. I don’t want anyone to be confused. I’d rather have friends than minions.” At that, he wagged his tail and licked Kek’s cold, wet nose.

The violet male listened to what Alexander had to say, lazy smile permanantly placed upon his muzzle. If he had any doubts that the navy blue male might make a good leader, they were quickly washed away. It was a good sign that he enjoyed input from his members, and didn't mind having his rules being questioned. That meant that he would be easy to approach if a member had a question or concern.

Though he was young and still had need to grow, the violet male was pleased. He wasn't a wolf who typically rushed in to anything, but today had been an exception. Things had worked out beautifully, it seemed, and his luck had fast returned. A new friend days previous, and now a new pack, trusting alpha and a friend.

"I have a few trails that look to be good gounds," he admitted, soft eyes bright. "But everything sounds good to me. Those who stay on the grounds take care and watch out for lurking predators and try to keep our allies and messengers safe." Yes, the more he thought about providing safety for other animals as messengers, the more he thought it sounded good.

They could be useful in more ways then just toting messengers - if a nearby territory seemed suspicious or began making threats, they could be useful information gatherers as well.

"The bonds of friendship are much more strong then that of minions," he agreed, looking down at his nose as it was licked. "I do believe, my friend, that today has been one of the luckiest since my arrival." His plume of a tail swayed back and forth as he dipped in to a bit of a bow. Playfully, he nipped at Alexander, brushing against him in a most amicable of nature. "For the beginning of a pack, I do believe you and your Alpha have things handled beautifully." Green eyes light, he gave a genuine grin, "As the nature of a pack ultimately is dictated by its leaders, I can forsee that this one shall indeed become great."

Kekarn genuinely meant it.

He'd lived a few years longer than the young male before him, but unless things drastically changed or his fellow Alpha turned out to be sour, there was no reason his rogue pack would fail. It truly fell down to personality and intelligence - Alexander radiated confidence and an easy-going nature. A trustworthy wolf, and a natural born leader, Kekarn was already happily devoted.

The charisma that Alexander possessed was unavoidable. And if he continued to grow in such a manner, Kekarn just knew that the navy and cream male would go far. It took more than just a band of wolves to come together to form a pack - it took a leader.

And Alexander was it.

If Alexander had any nerves about sharing his pack ideas with Kekarn, they were erased the moment he looked at the purple wolf. Kekarn was so calm, so welcoming, and so open. He definitely trusted this wolf, and he was sure Deimos would as well. The navy male twitched his ears, listening for any creatures that might be around. One should always be prepared, he thought. Which brought him to another memory. The last time he was unprepared.

Deimos. Alexander thought about the attack brought on by his sister and immediately began to worry. He hadn’t seen Deimos in a couple days. He was tracking the red wolf to make sure no more trouble befell him, and maybe it was about time to check back in. But first, he had to make sure things with Kekarn were settled.

The blue wolf welcomed the other’s compliments with bright eyes and a wagging tail. He also thought their pack was a good, strong idea. After all, he’d always wanted to be part of a pack, but had a fear that he would choose the wrong one. Alexander knew there were many different kinds of packs and he didn’t want to stumble into the unpleasant kind. Creating his own was the perfect idea!

“Thank you,” Alexander said sincerely. “We actually already have some small lands claimed, and I can show you to them if you wish?” He peered in the general direction of the packlands. “Right now, I’m just introducing wolves to the land, but in a couple days, I and my other alpha will call everyone together to meet each other. So you’re free to do as you wish until then.”

Kekarn gave a nod, eyes bright in good nature. Well, it seemed that everything was finally falling in to place. Not only had he met two good friends within the week, but he now had a comfortable place amongst a small but growing pack.

If Kekarn had ever imagined he'd be in such a situation, he would have laughed. Most packs just weren't for him. They didn't tolerate his differnces, or they were too large or just felt plumb wrong. But here, within a portion of one afternoon, he'd finally found a place that could feel like a new home.

For a brief moment he thought about his family, many a nights walk form this place. Somewhere near the mountains, where the land was a smidge cooler and the area a bit more barren. He had family there, but Kekarn doubted he'd ever return. There was no reason to go back to those outlands. . . .

Maybe someday, for family, but not anytime soon.

"A tour would be loverly," he agreed heartily, fluffy tail wagging lazily behind him. "But I will look forward to such a call, to meet tmy new fellows." There was a note of earnest in his words, his relaxed attitude infused with a moments delight. He truly couldn't wait to get to know the other wolves, to get to know his new family.

For that's what a pack was, as far as Kekarn was concerned.

Family.

((Did you want to call that a wrap? ;_; I'm sorry it didn't go exactly how we'd talked before. . . >< ))

(( Yes, yes, that sounds good. I'm at about the same place with the other two so hopefully all will be finished in a couple days. Though I knoe Filly is pretty busy at the moment.

And that's okay. nn They'll have lots of time to interact in the future too.

Sooooo... The end! -stamps- ))
