Hi thur.
I've been thinking on buying a good SLR digital camera lately. I lovelovelove photography, and I don't think I'm really that shitty at it, so why not get into it, yanno? I have an SLR film, but it's just too expensive to keep up. Digital is the way to go, ithinks. Especially since I have a job now. cool
Anyway, I know a few of you out there are photographers. Do you have any specific cameras to suggest? I'm thinking a price range of a couple hundred dollars. Trying not to get too expensive, but I wouldn't mind saving up for a while.

Well, at the mo I use a Nikon FM2 Manual, but if i were to buy a digital, it'd definately have to be an upper-range Nikon 3nodding

IMO film is better. More expensive for sure but the way film grain looks is just so nice.
Then again, I'm not really a very good photographer at all so my opinion on this is not all that relevant.

Everyone reccomended Canon to me so... I bought a Canon one, think it's the 350d. Comes with a pretty decent lense to start out with and it takes beautiful high-quality images.

Save up your monies for a Canon! The glass is the best quality, and the bodies really are great. I'm saving up for a 5D to use for college, and if I can't afford that I'm going for a 30D. If that fails, a 20D. haha. I've found that Nikon SLRs tend to generate too much noise, and since they've never moved their platform to a whole frame chip, they really have hit a cap there.

Go digital unless you have the time and the money to mess with film. There is nothing you can do on film that you can't accomplish via digital means. Film grain? Add it in.
I find that digital is often better looking than film work, cleaner in my opinion. I won't carry on the digital vs. traditional debate here though. They both have their place and both fit certain people.
As for a digital SLR. If you are worried about price, the old or new Canon Digital Rebel has alot of bang for your buck. It's a great starting camera and takes beautiful photos. If you are willing to spend a bit more. Go for a 20D. A photographer friend of mine recently bought the 30D and said that it was more or less the exact same Camera with perks she'd never really use. I'd likely go for a 20D myself if I had the chance.
