i literally blame the media. the magazines, the ads, the movies, they normally target girls, but they do target guys. the magazine for instance. reasons why people always judge, calling someone ugly, even when no one is really ever ugly, is because the media has warped our minds. they believe that women and men should look a certain way to look pretty. they make it seem like u have to be like, this skinny, and have like, chiseled six-pack but u dont.

they make people want to be as pretty or as good looking as the people in the magazines, therefore they always try to find imperfections about themselves. media is one the the number one reasons as to why girls become anorexic, because they want to be as pretty as everyone else. which is just plain stereo-typical. also, having people being assholes towards you, telling u that u dont look good. or that ur clothes r ugly or telling u sumthing that makes u seem ugly, brings down the self-esteem, making the person want to change themselves so they can be accepted. truth is though, everyone wants to judge something.

to make themselves feel better in some way, or just because they want to be mean. everyone judges people everyday, looking at someone's hair "omg, her hair is gross" looking at the way they look. its also the reason why girls now wear so much make-up. the girls at my school pack it on. they say they wear it because they like it. truth is they wear it because they want to be liked more, have people think that they're pretty so they can be accepted, and, also because they may not be happy with the way they look. notice how teenagers always say they want to change something about them. the media has made us think that looking anorexic or having a six-pack is the way we should be looking. and its not.

notice at school how there's always like, cliques. the populars, the out casts, the geeks, and the regulars. they all have different looks, and they all get judged on the way they look, not by who they are. i transfered to a new school this year, i got judged right away because i apparently fell in the group of the outcasts. i dont understand why they are outcasts. the group seems happy enough. i got judged on the way i looked first day i came to school, just because i didnt pack the make-up on like everyone else does. truth is, im not affected by the media. im happy with how i look, and there are others that are like me, but everyone in some way is always affected. everybody always wants to be skinnier, prettier, stronger. everyone always wants to look and be a certain way.
people.

you need to remember, that the people in the magazines dont really look that way. they go through hours of preparation, make-up, hair, clothing. and all "imperfections" can be taken away by computer editing. nobody can actually make themselves look like the people in the magazine without indangering themselves; dieting, cosmetic surgery, etc.

now, i know that the media does all these things to make the people "flawless" to sell their products. hense the phrase "sex sells" but still. people are affected by it. its growing to a younger age. i got the teacher to look up some statistics for me, she said its now affecting 9 year olds! k, at my school even. there are 8 year olds in bathrooms putting on make-up. i saw them, and i kept questioning them as to why they were doing it. one of them said it made them look pretty, other one said cause i want to look like the people in people magazine. believe me or not, that doesnt matter. its not completly their fault, they're jsut trying to sell products, i know. but still. they should at least show less stereo-typical behaviour.

apparently the dove company (soaps, face products, hair products) are holding a petition thing to stop using stereo ism in their ads. its been going on for about a year now, and im completly behind their actions. they want to us real people, not flawless people, real people to represent their magazine. it seems better than having a person completly changed on the computer.

i know that people can ignore what the media says, and be their own person and all, but u have to admit. the media, always finds some way to affect everyone. whether it be a small change or a big change. it affects everyone, and not always in a good way.

on this topic. do u agree or disagree?

I agree completely, but aswell have something to add. Media itsself is not the only answer, it's also the people around it. People often fear those that are different than them, often more times not because they are ugly, but because they consider these types of people to be compition. They believe that if they can make others believe that they are ugly, or are too far away from imperfection, they can win a friend, a mate, or influence by other crowds in general. most of the time people just feel better jumping on other people's heads so they can reach the top. Which all goes back to my good old friend Charles Darwin and a branch of his Theory of Evolution, the Survival of the fittest. It's funny isn't it? No matter how evolved or advanced we believe we are, we are still affected by primal instincs. They is no way man can truly conquor nature =P

But yes, just the same, the major populus is greatly innfluenced by media that dipicts stereotypical people and unreal figures. but what I've seen you have done what others should do, and shown that you are stronger than any innfluence by just saying "I like who I am."

Anyone who can openly admit that i greatly respect =)

Actually The world is slowly dissolving into chaos if you as me. Ever day it seems to get worse and worse, rather then "evolving" into something better, but I do have to agree with what you had to say about the media.

Admittly yes, the world, while advancing in many, such as technological, it beings to lose other factors that get replaced or losted in the process. As many people around you know, the aspect of "Common Sense" is slowly dissapearing. And once again, I'm going to have to name another philosopher and his theory =P
This time it is James Flammel, not as well known as Darwin, but just as important. Flammel came up with the idea of alchemy, and, if anyone watchs FMA, Flammel came up with the idea of equalvilant exchange. If we use that in what we see today, it works out, how as somethings evolve, others things devolve.

that also tests the theories of god. making humumguli. it is actually possible. with all the technology we have today, to create a humunguli, though it would take many years to create just one of them. getting all the genetics and chromosomes correct, giving it human features and watnot. one slip up though, and the whole project would have to be thrown away. though, nobody today has actually tried to create one, due to the fact that people can reproduce without having to make a living being out of nothing. the guy's theory is very interesting. though, equivilent exchange, i dont think making stuff like that would cause u to lose ur body or parts of ur body (episode- mother FMA). very good theory. actually makes me question the intentions of the people that believe that there is a god.

you know what I am gonna shut my mouth...I don't fell like getting in a debate over religion and science and by the way the g in God should be capitilized (unless if referring to a mythical god like Zeus) and WTF we can't make a human out of nothing and if we did it would just be a pile of flesh and bone not a true living thing, and the reason that no one is really trying to do that is because that is trying to be God by making life.

Hence the idea of equavilent exchange, we would not be starting with nothing. But I understand where you are coming from.
