A really good loli one they don't have here (altho akin to the tissue paper one) that I thought id add (if its ok)
Materials: Lace offcut, plain candle (generally a thick pillar)
Basically Heat up the outer surace of the candle, press lace into it. This is the easiest way, you can also use glue or melt extra wax onto the back of the lace. The safest way to do this is to only put the lace around the bottom of the candle, but seeing as everyone does the safe thing and doesnt leave their candles unattended (-stare-) it should be alright, as long as you trim the excess lace as it burns.

That's a cool idea, do you have pictures?
I definitely don't mind you adding more ideas to this thread/forum.
You could also use paper doilies for lace, don't you think? Red paper or foil ones would really contrast with a white or pale pink candle. You could even use a black candle, with the foil doily.

Sadly no pics, I havent really done anything lolita for ages crying
I dont condone the use of black candles, even for goth-lolita >_< But its true, it would look good. Also, foil and stuff may look a little harsh, I'd actualy like to try this out using wax cooking paper, for the effect.
But yeah this idea can translate really well to almost anything. The joy of pillar candles is that very rarely are the outsides affected too much by the actual burning of the candle, so you can stick almost anything to the sides. Some of the prettiest ones iv seen are actually Painted lace over the candle, plus if you use melted wax as the "paint" (basically sponging over a lace offcut used as a stencil) its incredibly safe. I'm not sure how well the wax will "paint" tho.
Another idea (harder) is to carve out designs in the candle itself, or a relief (right word? Basically you carve so the design sticks out, and you peel away the candle surface, sort of like a cameo brooch). This realy should only be done with very thick candles, and not too deep into it. The trick : once youre done carving, turn on a blowdryer (not too high, but too low and you'll be going a while) and give it a going over, this should smooth out the carvings, as well as give it a glossy look.
Oh one thing i did myself a long time ago, is get small fake jewels and stick them regularly over the exterior of a candle, this looks very pretty with more than one candle, and of different lengths as the candlelight makes it sparkle.
I might try these out soon, and work out more details.

Wow, those are all really good ideas. I was thinking black more for aristocratic decor, not lolita. The older I get, the more it draws me. sweatdrop
I hope you can take pics, if you do make those candles. Tips would be great too, if you find something doesn't work so well.

That looks and sounds adorable. Luckily there's TONS of thrift stores around me just full of reeeally old tea-sets. (My town is older than this country!)
I absolutely adore candles.

ahh, if i might add another candle suggestion...
snow (or sand) candles can be v-e-r-y pretty, and easy to make!
Take regular candle wax along with various color crayons (of your choice) and melt them down completely on the stove. If there is snow (shaved ice or sand works well also) then you dig the snow in any shape really, and dump the melted wax in. The wax will melt the snow down even farther, but once it cools it has the loveliest pattern on the side where it was indented by the snow/sand. Its really easy and fun to make!
Then they are really pretty sitting out where you can see their odd shapes ^^
