This whole situation was so... ridiculous. It was already bad enough that they had all been trapped on this island. And now, and now, it seemed that fate just kept on testing the situation. How was that this was even happening? There was no solution to this, no scientific mumbo jumbo. He was turning into a freaking shark.
And then, listening to Hailey ramble, he couldn't help but laugh silently. Could he really, ever eat somebody else on the island, let alone Hailey? Of all the people on the island, Hailey was one of the nicest. She had never yelled at him, never laughed at how he stuttered and butchered his speaking. So maybe that was because he hadn't really talked her every single day he was on the island, she had always tried to be nice to him, right? No matter how crappy she had been feeling (and she was definitely not feeling well on their first meeting) she tried to be nice.
Okay, so, brave face. He didn't want to freak Hailey out anymore than he already had. "Uh, l-listhen Hailey. I g-guess, I guess I've justh been kintha off becauth, well... I haventh eathen in days..." Only after he said it did he realize that might be inferring to something that he really didn't want Hailey to think about.
Quickly, he tried to cover it up, "I-I mean, you know, noth - noth like I'm going th-thoo eath you or anything... I justh meanth thath with this change, and noth eathng and all, I gueth ith goth me all weirded outh, y-you know? You're a human, righth? Even if you are kintha fishy, you're sthill human mosthly. I'm sthill human mosthly. And, I-I'm noth a cannibal! So there's no w-way in heck thath I'll eath you, see? How abouth, uh, how bouth I show you something? I goth some food I hid ath the edge of the jungle, juth in case, you know? You hungry? I could go geth uth some stuff?"
As lame as it sounded, he kind of sounded like a puppy, trying as hard as he could to please after doing something wrong.

If a part of Hailey continued to tell her to run, she would've thought Skye's behavior cute. Sure he stuttered...and sure on their first meeting she thought him to be very appealing but things weren't different now. Besides physically different, she had Wesley now...still, that old part of her that didn't want to die thought it would be good to have a man-eating alley. 'No! Bad Hialey! Need...sleep, no! No sleep! ' She blinked her eyes a couple of times to snap herself out of her reverie.
"Yes, we're still human....and will all ways be deep down..." She answered, holding back a yawn from escaping her lips. At the mention of food her eyes lit up. Not from delight nut slightly from fear, until Skye explained he could get her seomthing to eat too. The girl shook her head.
"No, I'm okay..unless you can magically conjure up something to put me to sleep. I don't know what it is...but I can't these days...maybe its the beach, snad...I dunno...and--oh! Rambling again." She gave a nervous chuckle before letting out a small yawn.
"Sure! Show me that spot!" A smile was pastered on her face, trying to appear eger to see where Skye hid his food away from anything. She was trying to be assuring--still something new with her.

As he led Hailey towards his stash of hidden food, he couldn't help but smile - with his back turned to her, of course. She seemed considerably more talkative than she had been the first time he had met her, or at least, from what he remembered. perhaps it was just her nerves (actually, it probably was just her nerves.) but it was nice anyways, that she was making an effort to sound interested.
When they finally reached the edge of the jungle, he led her to one of the trees. It was massive and ancient looking, with a huge hole dug into it. Skye figured it had probably been some animals nest - at one point in time. Inside was what looked like a birds nest, but it was actually just a bunch of branches and twigs that he had put together, the food itself was underneath. Brushing everything aside, he peered in. Everything seemed to be there. He had several coconuts and a few bundles wrapped in the some huge fronds from a what he thought might have been a banana tree. Judging by the smell, whatever was in it involved fish.
Showing it to Hailey, he explained, "I goth sum fish. I sthuck it in the fire pith afther the fire wenth outh, so ith kinda nice and smokey. Though, I gueth since you're, uh, kindtha fishy, you mighth noth wanth any. Buth, you canth thake my coconuths if you wanth. They donth thasthe very goodth any more..." He paused, then said, "buth if your thired, we couldth probably go clean outh one of the nicer barracks..."

Hailey tried her best to follow Skye towards his little spot without tripping over her fin like feet. Weariness was starting to settle in, it couldn't have come at the worest time. Considering she was trying to be there for another person--aside from Wesley and Leonard. Why this only happens to me, I'll never know.' She thought to herself, making sure to stay close to Skye. Of course, not too close just incase she tripped she wouldn't be too close to bring him down with her. The sun was almost down, a ray or two of light was left dancing in the soon to be night sky. The moon was almost visible, just its white shadow cast out in the vast empitiness of the area above them.
When they finally made it to the 'spot', Hailey looked around. Just some trees, brushes, grass...and anything else that would look the same in the jungle. However, there was a particular looking tree that stood out amongst the others. Ancient was the only word to describe it, and massive too. She couldn't see exactly what Skye was doing since he was rumaging through it, but to her surprise there was some fruit inside the plant. Her nose picked up the scent of fruit...and something that was smoked?
Apparently Skye smoked some fish in the ashes of a dying fire. She politely shook her head at the offer of fish. Skye was right...she was turning fishy and to eat something else that was remotely fishy...wouldn't that be considered canabalism?
"I suppose I'll have a coconut..." She began, pausing before a small yawn filtered through her lips. "Sorry, I haven't slept well. And I can rest later...I doubt a barrack could help me. Everytime I lay down I can't sleep, I sweat soon I'll have to resort to standing to get some sleep in me." Hope her little joke would ease the entire situation between them...and also ease the conversation into the topic of 'when are you coming back to the base camp?'

"Wouldn'th be nithe if we hadth some sleeping pills?" He smiled a little bit, he couldn't help it. He hoped she would get used to it eventually. But really... "Hey," he said suddenly, his voice gently teasing, "maybe there's some planth in the jungle thath will knock you outh, eh? We are on an islandth you know? So voodoo rithual to make you sleep for a week?"
He took a sharp rock and placed the coconut on the floor, striking rock against hull. It was a messy process, but hey, it got them food. Plus, he had done it so often, that he was spilling less often now. Making a small crack on the top, he gently plucked out the broken pieces until there was a big enough hole on the top for drinking the juice out. Luckily, this one hadn't cracked in half and spilled out all its liquid like many of the others.
Although he didn't catch the hint of telling when he was going to go back to base camp, Skye coincidentally picked it as his next random conversation topic. "So, uh, how're things ath camp doing? You probably haventh noticed, since I hadn'th seen you even when I wasth ath camp, but, uh, I haventh been back in a while."

The girl laughed at Skye's joke. His smile was still a bit scary but....if he kept it up then Hailey would be used to it...eventually. If they had some sleeping pills on the island, surely they would've been mixed in with the sand...and would surely have an aweful taste to them. And while there could be some plants that could help her fall asleep...who was to say which plants would put her to an eternal sleep? As far as Hailey knew, none of them knew much about the plants on the island...maybe Wesley knew more but she didn't want to trouble him.
She watched with mild amusement at Skye's show of cracking the coconut a little. Her hands clapped together as a sign of recognition for his efforts. If she had tried that...curely she would've missed the coconut by a long shot. Or perhaps wouldn't have dented the fruit at all. When teh subject changed to the island, Hailey thought for a moment. She tried to clear away the spiderwebs of sleepiness that were forming in her mind.
"Things..are okay I suppose. I don't talk with the others alot, prefering to spend time alone the shoreline...I do talk to Wesley more so than the others but nothing major has happened to my knowledge." She explained before droping the bomb. "Do...do you know when you're coming back?"

Skye blushed a little at Hailey's clapping - at least that was normal, unlike everything else that had happened. He really He gave her an awkward thumbs up, listening as she relayed what she knew about the base camp.
"Coming backth?" Hailey's question confused Skye, weren't most of the people moving to the barracks? "Uh, didinth you know? I thoth maybe Wesley mithe have thold you... Some of the folkths, like me 'n Leonardth and some others have been livingth here for a while, whath with and actual bedth and shelther and sthuff."
He thought about it for a moment, then continued. "I mean, going backth thoo camp looking like thisth? Admith ith Hailey, even you were scaredth of me."

When Skye blushed it made Hailey giggle on the inside, just pleased to know she could still make a guy blush even in her 'infected' form. His 'thumbs up' was cute too, earning him a small chuckle. As Skye explained his situation Hailey became confused. Maybe not talking to everyone had its draw backs. But, if people were moving away, Wesley would've told her...right? 'Of course he would...why wouldn't he?' She thought to herself while trying to pay attention to Skye.
"Wesley didn't tell me any of this...I thought people were scattered about hence why he..." It dawned on her. That's why Wesley came back late and why she hardly saw the others...they were moving away from the base camp. Hailey felt a little stupid for now figuring it all out just now. She shook her head, she would discuss this later with Wesley.
"I was scared of you because of this stupid tail! The...the..fishiness of this thing is getting to my head. " She explained, hoping Skye believed her.

Skye listened to Hailey, smiling inwardly as she explained why exactly she was scared - and didn't believe her one bit. he let it slide tough, it didn't really bother him much he supposed, and it wasn't really hurting anybody. Besides, it was nice of her to try to cover up the fact that he was scary looking, even if it was the truth.
"Yeah," he said, finally decided to just nod sympathetically, "whath with all the weirdth sthuff happeningth thoo uth, I wouldnth be surprisedth if people got a lithle weirdedth outh."
He offered her the since forgotten coconut and sat down more comfortably - it was kind of weird, being so at ease with someone he barely knew - especially since it was a girl. But hey, he wasn't complaining.
"Hey Hailey," he asked again once he had shifted comfortably, "maybe you wanth thoo move outh here? Safer for when ith rains, you know?"

Hailey took the coconut in her hand, deciding she would take it and eat it after they were done talking. She thought Skye bought what she said, however, chances were he probably didn’t. Hailey sighed inwardly, trying to think of a way to make it up to the guy. Slowly she sunk down to sit on her knees to sit down with Skye. After all, it would be rude to stand while someone was sitting. When the question of moving the airbase was popped Hailey raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t know about that…” She began, taking a sip of the coconut juice. The sweet favor ran down her throat before she continued on. “The base camp is perfect to me, its right near the shoreline…and the airbase is a little creepy..”

"Huh." was all he said as he took in what Hailey had been saying. Unable to help himself, he looked at her and copied her expression by raising his own eyebrow, "You're noth afraidth of the darkth are you Hailey? Or perapths some ghosthies?" Now he made comical expressions, raising both eybrows, then dropping them in a squint, only to have one pop back up again and then change so that the other eyebrow was cocked.
Although their conversation was about something as mundane as camp locations, Skye found himself having quite a bit more fun than he had had in a while.

Hailey gave a mock pout at the youth. Her? Afraid of the dark? What was she, five years old? Okay, maybe while growing up she did have a problem with the dark but now the fear was gone….almost entirely. She still didn’t like the idea of being completely alone in the dark—who did? But, she was able to withstand it…for a certain amount of time. Her arms crossed her chest, ghosts? She shook her head. If this was Skye’s way of trying to scare Hailey he was….actually doing an okay job of it. Ghosts didn’t exist and there couldn’t be any of those on an island. The pout on her face disappeared thanks to Skye’s eyebrows. She gave a good laugh at his comical expression. It’s at these rare moments that the girl forgot they were mutating into some sea monsters.
“Cut it out Skye, you know I don’t believe in ghosts. Besides, I doubt anyone died here to leave their ‘spirit’ behind.” Hailey explained, nodding her head in agreement with herself.

"Yeah, they wouldth rather go thoo a real islyand paradthise. Likthe Hawaii. Or Jamaica." He said, emphasizing the other vacation spots with annoying cheerfulness.
It was kind of strange, having such an easy conversation during a situation such as theres'. Here he was, stuck on an island, turning into some predator... thing. And he was talking to a half fish-girl and messing around? Could he haver really accepted his fate so easily? And so quickly? It had only been a few months, for sure, but why did he already feel so set in his new life...?
He shoved these thoughts aside, trying to focus on what was on hand - no matter how unimportant it was. It was good to have fun sometimes, right?

Hailey's first reaction was to glare at Skye's annoying cheerfulness with each perfect vacation spot he dropped, but instead laughed. He was only adding to the easy atmosphere they had created. Besides, if Hailey continued to glare at people the sooner crows feet would develop around her eyes. Even though Hailey was changing into..a fish, she still cared somewhat about her human beauty.
A yawn was trying to escape from Hailey but she managed to hold it back down. It was time for her to go back to the base camp...but then that would also mean leaving Skye. 'You can't have it both ways...if he wants to stay then its his choice...' She thought, bringing a hand to her mouth as she let a yawn out.
"I think its time for me to go now Skye." She began with a sad smile. "I enjoyed seeing you! I'll come back and visit and you better visit me too." Hailey gave a small pout towards the end, Skye better come to visit her...she couldn't keep traveling around the island with fins for feet. Slowly she stood up, giving Skye a smile before heading back to the base camp.
