Besides any-version Erik, I'd take the young guy closest to the camera in all the gold paint at the ball to the left of the stage in the movie. He's in the second time they change away from Erik as he walks down the stairs as the Red Death.

ALW Erik...actually any Erik. No doubt about it! biggrin He's smart, romantic, thoughtful, charming and not all goody-goody like some of the other characters.

Leroux!Erik.

This is mainly because I'd pull along mischeif with him, write music, and make fun of La Carlotta. But, really because I would die to be able to sing and make music with someone whom loves it just as much as I do.

**On a side note, I think I'm starting to become more like Erik. I'm easily angered, becoming more and more withdrawn and I've begun writing my own music (like, full orchestration...) and I'm working on a musical.

*sighs* It wuldn't make a difference because they all have each other. Even if they were real/alive now they would be totally different.

...2004 Phantom....I can't help it... sweatdrop It's like....I don't know...he's mesmerized me!

sweatdrop Wow. I'm amazed I haven't contributed a giant rant to this thread yet.

Well, I am now. razz

Please, pardon me if this comes out sounding really, really peculiar. gonk I've taken four seperate medications so I can get over my illness and go to school tomorrow, and they're all kicking in at once, and I feel as if I'm on an acid trip. rofl

I would, inevitably, pick Erik. Most likely in any form thrown to me.

Why, though, is the question that requires more attention, it seems to me, than "who."

Let me explain Leroux!Erik, because all of the others fall somewhere in this category, so I wouldn't really have to explain them seperately. ...except for Robert Englund's interpretation of Erik. I'm sorry. I don't think I could ever love him. gonk He STILL gives me nightmares.

I full realize that, in essence, Erik was not, as one would say, "pretty." He wasn't a kind, forgiving soul. He was basically a ruthless murderer, a torturer, a madman. I fully realize the extent of his pyschosis, how deeply burned within him was the hate of man, how terrible his face was too look at, how cold he was to the touch.

However, personally, as I have "grown," as one would say, to many of my friends' dissappointments, I, unlike them, did not immediately begin latching on to members of the opposite sex much like a rabid leech would do. Many of you may recall my "affair" with Adam, but, think about it. For those of you who remember that incident, was I ever honestly like, "HOLYSHITOMFGOMFGOMFGOMFGOM. heart heart I WANNA BEAR HIS MANBABIES AND DO EXPLICIT ACTS TO HIM! heart heart heart "

Not really.

I've come to realize that the attraction I've felt to him, or anyone else, for the matter, was not a sexual desire, persay, but more of an emotional attachment, the deep need to carry on an intellectual conversation, the need to be loved for something other than looks (probably because I will never be "lusted" after, to say the very least). I had first come to love Adam out of pity.

Pity grows to love. This I know from experience.

As insane, as dangerous, as hideous as Erik was, one cannot help but to pity him. Tragically, he locks himself away, never to see humanity he hates, until he falls in love with Christine, who can never return his love.

How does that not ellict pity in the reader/watcher/listener/whatever the hell medium you're viewing it through?

He was a genius, a composer, a writer, a painter, an architect, a designer, a musician, a singer, a magician. All these qualities, I am drawn to.

It's not all about the "hawts" a guy has to me, to be honest.

I feel as if I can relate to him- his positive qualities, as well as his terrible ones. Isn't that what love's all about?

...aaand that was a rant.

What can I say, 1990 Mini-series Erik. It's one of my favorite versions of the story.

Of course I will be choosing Erik!!!! But I might also be tempted to choose The Parisian from the original book. He's very mysterious and knowledgable about all the Erik.
